Chapter 429: Parliament's Malicious Good Deeds

Chapter 429: Parliament's Malicious Good Deeds

"Your Highness, not a single country in the world has responded to the Royal Family's call for aid. Only the Church has stated they will come, but they require a formal diplomatic note from Parliament."

Inside Buckingham Palace, a man resembling a butler spoke while standing beside Prince William.

"Parliament issuing a note? Is my invitation not enough?" Prince William's expression darkened. "Tell me, exactly how is the current Parliament supposed to issue a note? They cannot even scrape together enough members to hold a meeting!"

Before him sat over a dozen anxious legislators. These were the only survivors of the dozens of politicians Prince William had managed to win over. The rest had already been reduced to corpses!

Naturally, corpses could not attend meetings, nor could they propose new agendas. Moreover, it was impossible to recruit replacements. No one in this city was willing to serve as a legislator anymore.

The new legislators appointed by King Charles and Prime Minister Sunak had committed suicide the very next day. After all, becoming a legislator meant the death of one's entire family, whereas suicide only meant the death of oneself.

"You assured me that your families rose to prominence after the Victorian era, correct?" Prince William asked.

The dozen or so individuals nodded profusely. One of them even added, "Yes, Your Highness. We only became legislators after the Victorian era. My family only began to rise in power after World War II!"

Prince William looked at the man's wrinkled face and felt a surge of disgust. He naturally understood that rising to power after World War II meant the man lacked any Victorian background, making it impossible for him to become a target for the monsters seeking revenge beneath the River Thames.

However, he also knew that families rising during such an era mostly had deep ties with America. Some were even acting as white gloves for Wall Street financial conglomerates. In the past, he would have felt defeated if he even spared these people a single glance. But now, they were the only legislators left. He wondered if this was some special kind of mockery directed at Great Britain's most glorious Victorian era!

"How many of the remaining legislators are left?" Prince William asked.

"Your Highness, the House of Lords has fewer than a hundred members remaining, and the House of Commons has just over two hundred... The entire Parliament has lost more than three-quarters of its members!"

Hearing this, Prince William closed his eyes in anguish. "Three-quarters... Hah, three-quarters..."

He was certainly aware of the sins these people had committed, but could their sins ever compare to those of the Royal Family?

Although Queen Victoria's power had shrunk significantly at the time, she was still the Emperor of Great Britain. Her full title was "Her Majesty Victoria, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland Queen, Defender of the Faith, Empress of India"!

She had spearheaded that terrifying Industrial Revolution, as well as the subsequent Irish Great Famine and the Indian Famine. And the driving force behind this horrifying Supernatural Crisis was, without a doubt, the Celtic Divine Pantheon!

Were the gods of neighboring Ireland and the deceased in the seawater here not all descendants of the Celtic People?

If those politicians were merely accomplices, then the current British Royal Family, being the direct descendants of Victoria, were the main perpetrators!

Therefore, Prince William was filled with infinite fear. He was terrified that once these legislators were all dead, the vengeful spirits would come straight for him.

"They probably wouldn't, right? Even if they were looking for someone, they should be looking for my father..." Prince William muttered under his breath, then suddenly asked, "What is that younger brother of mine doing right now?"

"He is repenting. He said he wants to atone for the innocent lives lost in the River Thames. It will make his conscience feel better!"

Hearing this, Prince William laughed. "Hahahahaha! My foolish younger brother, isn't it a bit too late to be thinking about reconciling with them now?"

"Your Highness, Prince Harry is at least trying to resolve the crisis. What about you?"

Hearing this remark, Prince William's expression shifted. He turned his head to see exactly who had spoken, only to find nothing but endless darkness before him!

This filled him with boundless fear. "Guards! Where is everyone? Where did you all go?"

His voice echoed in his ears, transmitting countless terrifying reverberations.

"Where did you all go? All go? Go..."

Then, figures began to materialize before him. These people, clad in tattered rags with numb expressions, swept their gazes over him—gazes that Prince William could not decipher, yet still found utterly horrifying!

"How did we end up here? Aren't we supposed to be at work? If we don't hurry, those damned factory owners will fine us again!"

"What does it matter if we're fined? Will they stop fining us if we show up?"

"Who knows? But my hands don't hurt here. It's so nice!"

"Yeah, I'm not tired anymore... I really wish my wife could come here too. She hasn't slept in two days because the factory owner punished her..."

"I'm not hungry anymore... Sob... I'm not hungry. My son starved to death yesterday. If he could have come here, he wouldn't have starved, right?"

The words of these people made Prince William realize something. Were they... factory workers? But from what era would workers be dressed so poorly and left starving?

This was the pinnacle of civilization, the former beacon that was Great Britain! Even during World War II, there was enough fish and chips to go around... It was only then that he truly noticed their physical condition. The pitch-black, hunched, sickly, and stunted bodies that appeared before his eyes made it impossible for him to believe that these were actually citizens of Great Britain!

The citizens of Great Britain should be holding their heads high, no matter where they were! After all, they were the greatest nation in the world. So why were they now...

"How can this be..." Only at this very moment did the terrifying descriptions he had read in books translate into a tangible reality. Prince William's voice trembled slightly as he looked at the people before him, shutting his eyes in agony.

This sheltered prince, who believed he already understood the true cruelty of the world, realized for the very first time that he actually knew absolutely nothing.

Amidst this agonizing telepathic connection, he felt a portion of the darkness recede as light began to spread around him once more!

"Yes, Elder Brother, this is reality!" Prince Harry's voice rang out, causing Prince William to jolt in surprise!

In the next second, he broke free from that dark space. He saw his younger brother standing before him, along with the legislators who had just left.

"You knew about this?" The departure of the legislators meant their conversation would not be leaked. Prince William let out a quiet sigh of relief and asked.

"In fact, I experienced the exact same thing you just went through. Was it a pitch-black expanse? Did you see the scenes from that era?" Prince Harry's words left Prince William momentarily speechless.

But Prince Harry had no intention of letting his Elder Brother off the hook. He quickly continued, "I just visited several nobles who survived this curse. They encountered the exact same illusion, and their reactions were much like yours!"

"Namely... shock and remorse! That is why they survived, and it is why I survived. It seems that you have survived as well, my Elder Brother!"

"According to the analysis of my subordinates, this is already a curse in itself—a curse placed upon those of us whose families committed atrocities during the Victorian era! And the targets of the curse are people like us!"

"Every single one of us is a target of the curse, and the medium of this curse is the very people you just saw..."

Hearing this, Prince William snapped his head up, his expression turning exceedingly bizarre as he asked, "So, you are saying that the fools in Parliament actually saved us?"

"It seems so. They maliciously performed a good deed!"

As he said those words, even Prince Harry found the situation somewhat hard to swallow.

The Royal Family of the British Empire had long become a plaything for Parliament. This was an open secret. In order to weaken the Royal Family's power, those legislators had resorted to every conceivable extreme.

From the initial establishment of the Constitutional Monarchy to the gradual restriction of the Royal Family's power, and later to directly limiting their assets and income, they had now even begun interfering in the education of Royal Family members.

The education they received from a young age—values involving justice, empathy, and Compassionate Mercy—were all instilled in them by this curriculum. They originally thought this was simply how humanity was supposed to be.

It was not until they interacted with their grandmother, the late Queen, and attended a couple of true royal education lessons that they realized these emotions were precisely what a ruler needed the least!

Yet their entire education had been dictated by Parliament. The goal was to use this High-Sounding method to ruin the Royal Family's Successor, ultimately turning them into a malleable rubber stamp at Parliament's mercy.

"Hah! How could those idiots have ever anticipated that after the Advent of the Supernatural, this very kindness and empathy would become the reason we could survive?"

Prince Harry finally concluded, "Meanwhile, their self-proclaimed noble education became the ultimate reason for their deaths in this world!"

Right at that moment, an even louder shout reached their ears: "Your Majesty! How are you, Your Majesty?"

Hearing those words, the expressions of the two princes changed drastically, and they simultaneously sprinted toward the inner palace!

Could their elderly father have fallen victim to the curse as well?
