Chapter 346: In America, Even Demons Can Be Believed In
At the exact moment Bai Yang snapped his fingers, in a city not far away, a father's uncontrollably furious voice rang out.
"What do you mean my son has been confirmed brain dead and is ready for an organ transplant?"
He was currently in a hospital, arguing with several people dressed in white coats who claimed to be staff from the Organ Donation Association.
"Sir, these are the medical records issued by the hospital, which clearly state that your son is already brain dead!" a staff member stated. "According to the Organ Donation Agreement he signed before his passing, we need to harvest his organs while ensuring their viability!"
"Please do not interfere with our work, alright?"
Hearing this, the man could no longer hold back. "Our entire family is Christian! It is impossible for us to have signed such an agreement! Furthermore, my son is not dead! Half an hour ago, he was still calling me 'Dad'! Where did you get these medical records?"
At those words, the staff members shot helpless, irritated glances at the doctor standing behind the man. Understanding their silent cue, the doctor immediately spoke up. "Mr. Perick, you are hallucinating due to excessive grief. Your son was already brain dead when he was admitted to the hospital yesterday!"
Upon hearing this, the man whipped his head around like a madman, his hands gripping the doctor's shoulders in a vice-like hold. "You are lying! Just yesterday you were demanding payment, claiming that fifty thousand dollars could save my son! Now that I have paid the money, and my son is groaning on his hospital bed, you are telling me he is already dead?!"
"He cried in agony all night long! Everyone could hear it! Do you think I am a fool?"
Hearing this, a vicious glint flashed in the doctor's eyes. He sneered, "It seems you are unwilling to sign...""I will not! My son never signed this agreement, and I forbid you from doing this!" the older man barked. A moment later, a stun baton was brutally jabbed into his abdomen. He collapsed instantly, unable to speak.
Meanwhile, the staff members began to complain to the doctor. "Dr. Drake, this is the third time you have caused trouble for us. How many times have we told you to tie up loose ends properly? Why are there still patients' family members causing a scene?"
"Sigh, I clearly remember slipping sleeping pills into his cup. Why didn't they work?" Dr. Drake muttered in confusion. "Whatever, it doesn't matter anyway. You don't need to handle the fallout. Just take the organs and go!"
"Very well, Dr. Drake. This is your third set of human organs. Just two more sets, and the debt you owe the Alliance will be fully paid off!" The staff member nodded with a stern expression, then asked, "Are you sure the donor is still alive?"
"Didn't this old man just tell you? His son was screaming in pain right before he was anesthetized. Of course he is alive!" Dr. Drake replied. "He is a sturdy young lad, perfectly healthy. If you people didn't need these specific items, I wouldn't have put him under the knife and left him in such critical condition..."
"Are you actually feeling sympathetic? Dr. Drake, this is our transaction. The sin falls entirely on your shoulders. If you hadn't racked up such massive gambling debts, would you be forced to pay us back like this?"
"And wasn't that because you saw I was a renowned surgeon and deliberately lured me in?"
"Enough, save your breath. Hurry up and harvest the organs. It will be bad if we are delayed. Our organ recipients are still waiting!"
The conversation between the two drifted into the ears of the man lying on the floor. His eyes practically split open in rage. He desperately wanted to stand up and stop them, but his body merely spasmed, devoid of any strength.
'Son, I am so sorry. Dad just wanted to find you a good doctor... It is all Dad's fault...' Tears streamed down the man's face, yet he simply could not fall unconscious.
The man's name was Logan Perick, a small farmer from California.
To save his son, he had mortgaged his farm to the bank and borrowed a massive sum, hoping to nurse his child back to health. Only now did he realize that his actions had instead sent his own son to Hell.
And soon, he would be going to Hell as well. Since the doctor allowed him to overhear such a damning conversation, it meant they had absolutely no intention of letting him leave alive.
Logan felt nothing but pure fury. There was not even a sliver of fear in his heart. After all, he had lost everything—his family, his livelihood... all gone. Even his own life was about to be snuffed out.
It was at this exact moment that he heard the news broadcast playing on an old public television in the nearby corridor.
"During this terrifying crisis in Luo City, The Church displayed an exceptionally high level of competence, expelling the Demons and protecting the city... Governor Nuland personally visited the grand cathedral in Luo City to thank Her Highness Saintess Caroline for her assistance..."
"The Saintess stated that they have already banished the Archdemon. As long as everyone places their faith in The Lord, the remaining Demons will be purged!"
"Here, we would like to remind all our viewers once again: do not believe anything a Demon says, and absolutely do not participate in any Sacrifices or prayers directed at them. What they seek is your soul and everything you possess..." Hearing this, Logan suddenly rasped, "My soul and everything I possess? Demons of Hell, if you can hear my words, then come and take my soul, my body, and everything else I have..."
"I have nothing left anyway... Only my soul remains..."
Then, a voice that seemed to carry the scorching stench of sulfur and hellfire echoed directly in his ear. "A prayer of this kind? How amusing!"
"Since you offer up your soul, Hell shall grant you power! Ah, humanity... it is always at the absolute bitter end that you are finally willing to place your faith in Satan!"
Scalding steam erupted from Logan's body, causing him to let out an agonizing, miserable shriek. The howl of pain was so raw and piercing that it even caught the attention of several people lingering outside.
Inside the operating room, Dr. Drake also heard the scream. Gripping his scalpel, he muttered, "I will go deal with him. Perhaps you won't even have to wait until tomorrow to get your second complete set of organs!"
"That won't work. We didn't bring the necessary equipment for a second harvest. You have to keep him alive until tomorrow!" the two staff members replied. "But you can bring him in first. Let him have a good sleep and flush out his system, that way he will be in prime condition for our quota!"
Hearing their casual, joking tone, Dr. Drake remained silent. He stepped out of the room, only to realize the agonizing screams had vanished.
He pushed the door open, but the old man was nowhere to be seen. All that remained was a puddle of some sulfuric substance on the floor.
"What on earth is this?" Smelling the pungent stench of sulfur, Dr. Drake frowned in confusion. However, his bewilderment quickly dissipated as a heavy hand clamped down on his shoulder.
"Hello there, Dr. Drake..." In the very next second, Dr. Drake thrust his scalpel backward with lethal precision, burying it into the ribs of the person behind him—the fastest way he knew to neutralize a threat.
But instead of the sickening sound of steel slicing through flesh, a sharp, metallic "Clink" rang out. The scalpel... had snapped in half.
His head was violently wrenched around, forcing him to look at this "person." Only, this was no longer a human being. It was a terrifying monster covered in thick, dark scales.
From its facial features, he could vaguely recognize the old man he had just deceived and incapacitated—Logan Perick. Yet, the man had thoroughly mutated into an absolute monster!
The monster released its grip, stepping past him and lumbering straight toward the operating room.
However, this was no longer any concern of Dr. Drake's. Because just moments ago, when his head had been wrenched around, his body had remained facing forward.
Meanwhile, the busy staff inside the operating room failed to notice the hulking figure approaching from the doorway—a monster radiating the choking aura of brimstone with every step it took...
"Recently, multiple Transcendent slaughter incidents have occurred in the vicinity of Luo City, targeting hospitals, schools, office buildings, and luxury villa districts. Many citizens have begun flocking to churches in hopes of seeking sanctuary..."
"Here, we must reiterate the most crucial point. The American Government warns everyone: those who place their faith in Demons will go to Hell!"
Click. Bai Yang casually changed the channel, switching to a special interview program.
"Mr. Gray, you recently raised salaries and provided insurance for all company employees. Was this increase in benefits due to the company going public?"
"No, no, no, Miss Reporter, you cannot say that. I firmly believe that these are basic rights that employees deserve, and it has nothing to do with going public!"
"Ah, so it seems Mr. Gray is unaware of the recent story where the chairman of a listed company had his entire family slaughtered by a special Demon due to unpaid wages?"
"Of course I am aware. However, I am a devout Catholic. I believe The Bible is absolutely correct, and that each of us should put our faith in The Lord. Therefore, I am more than willing to compensate my employees with their rightful back pay..."
Seeing this, the corners of Bai Yang's mouth curled into a faint smile. "Someone always has to take action, and someone always has to suffer. In this nation, these events... might not necessarily be a bad thing!"
