Chapter 335: A Dilemma of Choice, Destroy Everything!
Chapter 335: A Dilemma of Choice, Destroy Everything!
The shock brought about by Caroline's actions resulted in several devout believers following behind her, and this was merely the beginning.
Once she persevered down this path, it was entirely foreseeable that, just like certain Saints in history, a group of devout pilgrims would eventually follow in her footsteps.
She might even forge a path of pilgrimage across this Realm, stretching from west to east, connecting the eastern coast of the Pacific to the western coast of the Atlantic Ocean, completing a truly magnificent journey!
This was the future Bai Yang had prepared for her. After all, a young girl with such a pure and spiritually untainted heart deserved a future like this.
Before that, however, she still had to undergo a trial of the heart. Every Boon came with a massive Price. This was Bai Yang's method; every gift had an exacted toll, and the prerequisite for receiving such a Boon was enduring that very Price.
"A Saintess... must always endure the interrogation of her own soul. Growing up in this Realm, immersed in such a culture, what kind of choice will you make?"
Bai Yang spoke with deep Expectation. He was even more eager to witness this unique collision between Light and Darkness. Without his direct intervention, he highly anticipated seeing how these people would develop!
...
Meanwhile, Caroline had already followed the Police officers beside her toward the true battlefield.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the LAPD, most of the people in the area had been evacuated. Only the Helicopters hovering overhead and the photographers stationed in nearby high-rises remained, broadcasting the scene live. However, the existence of these live broadcasts made Caroline feel increasingly uneasy.
This was because she noticed that George and Leon were currently losing ground!
Those two Monsters were suppressing them with a truly exaggerated level of physical power!
If The Church had held the upper hand in previous clashes between The Church and Hell, that was no longer the case this time!
It was painfully obvious that they were at a disadvantage in their battle against the two Monsters.
This was entirely normal. The power of The Church's Transcendent Beings could not be achieved overnight. Their Precepts relied on devout hearts, prolonged prayer, and enduring training.
But Demons were different. They relied on Fear, malice, and a thirst for blood!
During this period, by committing those horrifying acts, both of them had grown stronger, but their rate of growth was clearly on a completely different level!
"Hahahahaha! How can the lapdogs of Heaven possibly contend against the power of our Hell?" Vlad III laughed uproariously. "Angels may be strong, but with so many worlds out there, just how much power can they actually channel to you?"
"This so-called Heaven still relies on your own strength to maintain it. It is nothing but a false Heaven!"
Meeting his taunts was George's blazing fury. "Do not dare compare your Bloody Slaughter and plundering to the elevation of Divine Faith, you bastard! We are protecting our world, while you are destroying everything!"
A smile crept across Lems's face. To Leon, this Demon's grin was utterly dripping with mockery. "Hundreds of years ago, you failed to win the War. Hundreds of years later, you still cannot win!"
"The Knights Templar? An organization that should have faded into obscurity shouldn't show its face again, or else you'll just be crushed by Hell all over again!"
Leon glared at him venomously, thrusting his Spear of Light at his opponent. "Like you? Lems Oconnor, do you even remember what you are fighting for? For the future of soldiers? Then why did you recently murder an official who had been tirelessly advocating for Veterans?"
"You have long since become a true Demon, Lems! You lack human empathy, you lack human emotions. You are no longer human!"
"A Demon stripped you of everything, and yet you still champion their cause?"
Hearing this, Lems did not show a single trace of anger. He simply shook his head. "That is not my fault, but the fault of the American Government. If they had treated their Veterans a little better, would things have turned out this way?"
"And you are nothing more than accomplices to those wicked men! Since that is the case, we might as well turn this world into Hell too. Might makes Truth, and strength is everything. That is far better than having people like me simply waiting to die at the end of their lives!" Sure enough, after becoming a Demon and shedding his mortal emotions, he could spout such twisted logic with absolute fluency and natural ease, without a single shred of remorse.
Meanwhile, on the outskirts of their battlefield, The Church's reinforcements arrived right behind Caroline.
Luo City was originally the place where Angus and Caroline lived. Furthermore, George and Leon had also brought some people along with them. These were all individuals who had passed the scrutiny of the Precepts and acquired Transcendent Power.
Among these people were Monks, Bishops, and newly recruited "Knights." Their numbers were not insignificant, totaling a full two dozen.
Seeing their arrival, the independent Media personnel who had previously seemed rather pessimistic suddenly grew excited. "They're here! They've arrived! It's the reinforcements from The Church. They're the ones we've seen before, the people who have appeared in the new Church!"
They were wielding their Bibles and carrying holy water, ready to capture these two terrifying Demons!
Upon arriving, they immediately intended to rush onto the battlefield, but just as they were about to reach it, two squads of people blocked their path.
The leader, dressed in a swallowtail tuxedo, looked at the Clergymen and offered a slight smile. "Your opponents are us!"
Behind him, the two squads of people began their mutation right in front of everyone's eyes!
One squad sprouted thick, shaggy black fur. Their mouths elongated into snouts, and their hands and feet twisted into sharp Claws. They roared for all to hear. This was a pack of Werewolves!
The other squad grew sharp fangs in their mouths, lethal Spikes on their hands, and leathery wings on their backs, transforming into Vampires that immediately took to the skies to circle overhead!
However, these Monsters did not initiate the battle. Instead, they stepped forward to flank the man in the tuxedo. The man declared in a loud voice, "I am Lucius, the butler to His Majesty Vlad III. I would like to invite Her Highness the Saintess out for a chat. How about we discuss the lives of ten thousand black people?"
Hearing this, everyone finally realized the truth. Sure enough, from start to finish, this entire incident was a conspiracy targeting the Saintess, not just some simple ambush!
From the initial attack on the two Transcendent Beings, to the current squads appearing specifically to intercept The Church's forces—it was all for this single objective.
Surrounded by the crowd, Caroline slowly walked up to face these Monsters. Naturally, she had anticipated something like this. As a Saintess, she would inevitably become a primary target the moment she revealed herself. Angus had warned her about this.
She was mentally prepared. She had completed all the necessary psychological groundwork to face an interrogation of the soul. This was fundamentally an ordeal every Saint would encounter when embarking on their Pilgrimage.
A millennium ago, when The Church's Saints walked this path, similar events had already transpired. The only difference was that back then, the interrogators were Nobles possessed by Demons.
"I am Caroline. What are you trying to do?" Caroline asked. "The lives of ten thousand black people?"
Lucius gave a slight nod. "Yes, ten thousand black people. They are gathered just outside this city. All of them are the descendants of the Black Slaves who once served His Majesty!"
Caroline recalled the records held by The Church. They had indeed stated that after Vlad III arrived in America, he became a massive plantation Farmer in The South. When he first reappeared, he harbored a deep-seated prejudice against black people.
To think that such prejudice had already escalated into such extreme actions!
Lucius continued, "His Majesty has decreed that you now have two choices. First, you can order your people here to head outside the city and save those black people. We will give you their coordinates and allow you to rescue them! However, we will then lay siege to your two Transcendent Beings. As you can see, their current situation is far from ideal!"
"Second, your people can stay here and fight us. If you win, you secure victory in this battle and preserve the reputation of The Church. But as for those black people outside the city... I'm afraid they will lose all hope of survival!"
A broad grin spread across Lucius's face. "Of course, we all know what choice you will make. After all... since when were black people ever considered human?"
"Please make your choice, Your Highness the Saintess! This time, there is no middle ground!"
Hearing his words, the entire crowd broke into an uproar. This was a dilemma that offered two options but truly gave no choice at all. No matter what she chose, it was a trap!
Choosing the first meant The Church was abandoning its own people, proving themselves cold-blooded for the sake of reputation. Choosing the second meant The Church looked down on black people, which would undoubtedly incite riots among the massive black population across the globe!
The most vicious part was that the person forced to make this choice wasn't some nameless subordinate whose actions could be swept under the rug. It was the Saintess, the very embodiment of The Church's prestige. Her choice would drag the entire Church straight into the abyss!
This was an attempt to destroy the Saintess while simultaneously obliterating the reputation of The Church!
