Chapter 306: The American Base in Tokyo, Completely Annihilated
Chapter 306: The American Base in Tokyo, Completely Annihilated
Everyone's gaze was locked onto this area, fixed upon the massive monsters, the terrifying Ghost King, and the man standing before them.
Hearing these words, Abe no Seimei slowly floated upward, arriving before Jiutun Tongzi, and simultaneously appearing before the eyes of the entire world!
It was just as the saying went: in modern society, there were no true secrets.
Photos of Golden Hair holding meetings would be leaked, and the European Parliament was a constant sieve of information. Needless to say, an incident involving such a massive crowd could never be hidden!
As long as the submarine optical cables remained intact, information would broadcast from here to every corner of the globe.
Therefore, the appearance of Abe no Seimei was also a signal, a signal of the re-establishment of classical Japanese society!
This realization made the hearts of many in the cabinet surge with excitement. After all, this was an incredibly powerful figure, a legendary existence who had defeated numerous Ghost Kings and guided the nation through countless major crises.
Did his arrival mean that their current crisis was finally over?
However, they had forgotten one crucial detail. The defining characteristic of classical Japanese society was the division of power among warlords and the rampant autonomy of local villages!
If a figure from such a classical era truly ascended to a high position, would the ambitious politicians simply wait quietly for things to conclude? Or perhaps..."It truly has been a long time, Jiutun Tongzi..." Abe no Seimei's voice echoed through the air, interrupting their fleeting thoughts. "Back in the beginning, I was too occupied with the affairs of Heian-kyo to see you one last time. What a pity!"
"Abe no Seimei... I also find it quite regrettable that I did not manage to kill a famous Onmyoji like you..." Jiutun Tongzi murmured softly, his gaze filled with cruel scrutiny.
"However, I brought along the thing that did see you for the last time!" Abe no Seimei chuckled.
Following his gaze, Jiutun Tongzi saw the blade in Yuan Xiansi's hands, and then he saw the young man's face!
"This face... this visage... I could never forget it! It is him! Minamoto no Yorimitsu!" His furious roar instantly reverberated across the entire world!
"Indeed, the descendant of Minamoto no Yorimitsu stands right here!" Abe no Seimei declared with a smiling expression. "The blade in his hand is known as Dōjigiri Yasutsuna!"
"Dōjigiri Yasutsuna?" The staff of the Tokyo National Museum immediately recalled the legendary artifact, but they were in no position to check on it, having fled far away long ago!
Hearing this name pushed Jiutun Tongzi beyond the limits of mere rage. He bellowed furiously, "Naming this sword after me? How dare you?!"
"Not only did we dare, but it was already done!" Abe no Seimei replied with absolute calm. "And now, this blade shall sever your head once more!"
"Once more? With just that? Hahahahaha!" Jiutun Tongzi mocked loudly. He suddenly raised his hand, and a massive, ethereal maw crashed down from the void, swallowing Yuan Xiansi whole. "Now, your little trump card is gone!"
Watching the man get swallowed alive, all the onlookers jumped in fright. That action was simply too decisive, too direct!
Abe no Seimei's expression remained perfectly serene. "Minamoto no Yorimitsu was right; you are far too easy to fool! Yuan Xiansi, once inside Jiutun Tongzi's stomach, rely on the command seal talisman I gave you to stabilize yourself. Then, use Dōjigiri Yasutsuna to slaughter every last Ghost he has devoured!"
"Every single Ghost is a target you must annihilate!"
Hearing this, how could Jiutun Tongzi not realize he had been played? What he had willingly swallowed was not the enemy's failed trump card, but a death warrant for himself!
"You... you actually dared to do this?" Jiutun Tongzi was incandescent with rage. "I will digest him completely! I will digest him along with everything else in this entire city!"
He truly had not expected this. How had this man calculated his exact method of attack? Did he know he would try to swallow the boy and deliberately set this trap?
"I will kill you and erase you entirely from this world!"
Faced with the trap Abe no Seimei had sprung, the previously handsome and elegant Jiutun Tongzi became utterly twisted. His body began to contort subtly, slowly drawing out his true, monstrous Yokai form!
Hearing his threat, Abe no Seimei shook his head. "You are still just as foolish, short-sighted, and arrogant as ever. No wonder you died before Yuzamozen did. They didn't even need a grand ritual or a killing formation to deal with you. Even those old fogeys from the Rinzai and Zen Buddhism sects never had to make a move..."
"We were never on the same path, Jiutun Tongzi. Compared to Yuzamozen and Otakemaru, you fall tragically short!"
"All you know is slaughter. You have never understood where your true advantages lie. Take these war-born Resentful Ghosts, for instance. If you knew where these Resentful Ghosts came from, would you still dare to act so arrogantly?"
Abe no Seimei actually had to admire Jiutun Tongzi's sheer audacity in a way. After all, the war criminals enshrined here had committed their atrocities in that terrifying neighboring nation.
Although there had been much decline during the era when Deities were sealed away, all of that decay had vanished now. That nation was once again a towering colossus. Therefore, Abe no Seimei had no doubt that if the entities from over there came to settle the score and saw Jiutun Tongzi gorging on so many souls, they would find it incredibly convenient. They might just drop a bolt of heavenly lightning, annihilating both the monster and the souls in one fell swoop!
That would naturally be disastrous, as those foreign beings wouldn't spare a shred of pity for the other inhabitants of this city. If a particularly hot-tempered entity arrived, like a Deity on the level of the Great God of the Three Altars of the Sea, they might just smite the entire city into oblivion.
Because of this, he decided it was best to handle things himself.
Thus, under the watchful eyes of the world, the Great Onmyoji slowly spread his arms. "Six Harmonies Abyss Coagulation: Star Corpse Ghost Burial!"
Hearing this incantation, Jiutun Tongzi burst into laughter. "You hypocrite! The Six Harmonies Abyss Formation requires the sacrifice of a hundred human lives just to activate! How are your methods any better than mine?"
Everyone paying attention froze upon hearing those words. A hundred human lives? Was... was that true?
Abe no Seimei smiled. "We simply need to change the venue! There happens to be a place perfectly suited for the two of us!"
In the very next second, the massive horde of monsters remained in place, but both Jiutun Tongzi and Abe no Seimei had completely vanished.
The cabinet members hastily checked several other information feeds to see where they had gone, only to find absolutely nothing.
"Did they disappear? Or did they leave Tokyo?" someone asked, burning with curiosity. A hundred human lives were at stake!
This was no joke. This was a live broadcast witnessed by the entire world. It wasn't some dark, hidden Ritual Sacrifice that could be easily covered up. How would global public opinion view them now?
"Where could they have gone?" Everyone was deep in thought. None of their news feeds showed any footage. Had the two of them just vanished into thin air?
"There's no information from anywhere in Tokyo!"
"Could they have left the city?"
Only the left-wing Legislator spoke up, his voice chillingly cold. "Actually, Tokyo isn't entirely under our control. I know of at least one place that remains completely blind to our surveillance!"
A heavy silence fell over the room the moment he said those words. They all knew exactly which blind spot the Legislator was referring to. It was an unspoken taboo, the American military base stationed in Tokyo, the iron grip that foreign nation had wrapped around their country's throat!
"Then look into it! It's already come to this. If we don't look now, are we just going to wait to die?" Shimao loudly declared. "At the very least, Lord Seimei is one of ours. He is a Transcendent Being belonging to Japan, not a foreigner..."
As his voice faded, the Drone feeds shifted, and their intelligence reports chimed in. "Yes, Prime Minister. The two of them are currently at the American military base in Tokyo!"
The footage revealed the US Military base that had haunted the nightmares of nearly everyone present. It was an overwhelmingly powerful stronghold, housing tens of thousands of military personnel, a formidable force capable of seizing their nation's capital at a moment's notice!
This base was home to the US Military Forces Japan Headquarters and America's Fifth Air Force Command. It housed all types of military personnel, predominantly Air Force personnel, along with a vast array of warplanes. In years past, countless fighter jets and bombers had taken flight from these very runways!
But now, the site was utterly unrecognizable as an airbase. At best, one could make out the chaotic, torn-up ruins of the runways and the surrounding buildings that had been reduced to formless rubble.
Yet, the Onmyoji and Jiutun Tongzi were still locked in a tense standoff in the center of the plaza. All around them lay heaps of US Military corpses that appeared to have died mere moments ago!
'I killed them all! Let's see how you use them for your Ritual Sacrifice now!' Jiutun Tongzi obviously didn't say these exact words out loud, but his current actions clearly telegraphed the sentiment.
Abe no Seimei had also lost his previous nonchalance. His expression was grave, and floating beside him was a highly peculiar Shikigami, seemingly a helper he had summoned for this exact moment!
"This base has now been completely destroyed!" A voiceover from an intelligence observer echoed behind the footage.
At those words, the chatter and smiles of everyone in the room instantly froze. Even though they harbored immense dissatisfaction toward America, that nation was ultimately their "daddy." Now that its base had been obliterated on their soil, what on earth were they supposed to do?
If Golden Hair found out, how would he view them?
This was a disaster brought about by their own Transcendent Being! Weren't they completely doomed?
But suddenly, many of them came to a stark realization. Wait a minute! They had a Transcendent Being now!
Before Transcendent Beings existed, they feared America's reaction. If they still feared America's reaction after acquiring a Transcendent Being, didn't that make having one completely pointless?
How could they consider this anything but an absolute win?
