Chapter 301: Resentment Detonation, Rampant Ghosts and Specters
Chapter 301: Resentment Detonation, Rampant Ghosts and Specters
"He is still digging! He dug out the bones!" A right-winger watched shakily, clutching his chest and trembling incessantly, as if his own ancestral grave had been dug up. That was more or less the case; for those who propagated hatred, their biggest bridgehead blowing up was an absolute disaster!
After all, without their spiritual totem, how could they continue to preach hatred? How could they convince others that they were right?
This was a terrifying blow to their entire faction!
Moreover, he looked at his flushed colleagues beside him. These left-wing individuals, who never got along with them, would definitely publicize today's events heavily.
Soon, the whole country would know that this crisis stemmed from their decades of consistent hatred propaganda, as well as their massive, high-profile worship.
"Even Emperor Toba did not dare to do this back then, but we did it... we did it..." Shimao murmured with a trembling voice. Looking at the scene before him, his legs quivered.
Indeed, he did not want to be this bullshit Prime Minister, but he also had dreams. After the Era of the Extraordinary arrived, anyone with a bit of ambition had dreams!
Could they not see how tough the Nordic Five were, yet the whole world still had to do business with them?
Could they not see that even though Italy had become a mess, it was still the center of the Catholic Church?
Could they not see that when a certain divine warrior went south to Latin America and the priests belonging to the Mayan Gods appeared, even America had to tread carefully? This was the power of a Transcendent Being!
And Japan did not lack an Extraordinary Power System at all. This was especially true after they learned that the power of the Daoist Sect and Buddhism truly existed!
The country of Japan, much like Vietnam, claimed to be an Inheritor of Chinese culture. If the Rome of the East truly fell, they would be the first to jump out and claim the title.
Because of this, they felt they had a great opportunity. The emergence of their very own Transcendent Being, the Onmyoji, only solidified this belief.
If others could do it, why could they not? If others could rise, they could rise too!
In the end, for the sake of their interests, they proactively cut ties with the Onmyoji. For their interests, they chose to keep waiting, only to end up with this apocalyptic outcome...
No one thought Shuten Doji was joking. They all clearly knew that this Great Monster was dead serious, and aside from sitting here waiting for death, they had no other options!
Thus, filled with terror, they remained in their seats, waiting for the Apocalypse to claim them. Yes, they did not even try to run.
In the mindset of the people of Japan, the strong were everything, so they merely sat there waiting for their death sentence.
Some even felt this was an acceptable fate. Dying at the hands of such a great Yokai, an Oni king, was better than dying at the hands of some Lesser Demon, right?
The news about the Hundred Demon Night Parade in Kyoto was no longer just a headline; it was a reality everyone knew.
The most ridiculous part was that just this morning, these people had been dumping their assets in Kyoto, preparing to funnel their investments into Tokyo. Well, now Tokyo had turned into a ghost realm too, making any investments utterly pointless.
"Hahahaha! Yes, just like this! Just like this!" On the screen, Shuten Doji was still laughing uproariously. Before him, the once-proud shrine had been reduced to rubble. He exhumed more Corpses and Souls, absorbing them directly into his body.
The monster's body visibly swelled up, then deflated, only to swell and deflate again, exactly like a balloon!
He only came to a slow stop after devouring every last Soul.
But this was not the end. Under the watchful lenses of countless Cameras, everyone could clearly see that his goals went far beyond a simple feast!
He guided the exhumed Corpses and bones, infusing them with a sinister spectral aura until they gradually morphed into terrifying Vengeful Ghosts.
Shuten Doji was, after all, the legendary Oni king!
Because of this, seeing the resentment, the Wish Power from the Sacrifices, and these terrifyingly powerful yet completely soulless entities, brought him immense joy!
Laughing heartily, he beckoned to these Monsters one by one and scattered them throughout the city.
"Go forth! Sow Panic! Make everyone drown in Fear!"
Fear was the fundamental source of power for evil entities, and Shuten Doji was no exception. A massive spectacle like this would only shock the masses, but it would not instill true, deep-seated Fear.
However, the unleashed Vengeful Ghosts were a different story. True Fear only set in when a Ghost was standing right in front of you!
Meanwhile, Shuten Doji slowly sat cross-legged next to the Rashomon Demon and began his cultivation.
Simply put, he had eaten a bit too much and needed a moment to digest.
In front of the massive evil spirit, the incredibly handsome man sat in serene elegance, looking as though the chaos around him was none of his concern.
But everyone knew full well that he was the Mastermind behind this apocalyptic crisis!
At that exact moment, the people filming and broadcasting the scene were hit by a terrifying attack! Because they were the closest to Shuten Doji, the Monsters he had catalyzed locked onto them almost instantly.
The audience watching the broadcast had the grim misfortune of experiencing the first-person perspective of a victim:
It was a Female Host on the ground, riding in a news van that was chasing a massive ghost. She was filming the face of the seated Shuten Doji, commentating as the camera rolled:
"Do you see this, viewers? This is the true mastermind behind this massive disaster! I am guessing he must be an Oni king or a Demon of some sort. He is incredibly handsome! Such overwhelming power!"
Just as she continued to speak into the Camera, she noticed an expression of absolute terror crawl onto the face of her Cameraman.
"Behind you! Behind you!" the Cameraman screamed, only to draw a harsh reprimand from the reporter. "How many times have I told you? Hold the camera steady! Do not shake it! If you ruin this shot, our pay will be docked! If you cannot do your job, then quit!"
The Cameraman could not take it anymore. He hurled the camera to the ground, turned on his heel, and bolted!
He had been fed up with this foolish host for a long time. If she was still going to act like this in the face of death, then she could go ahead and die alone!
With the Cameraman fleeing for his life, the camera lay abandoned on the ground, dutifully recording the horror that unfolded next.
The Female Host belatedly turned around, finally noticing the Monster looming over her. It was a Ghost with drooping eyes, slowly sniffing the scent of her body.
"Ah!" The woman's piercing shriek made the entire screen seem to tremble, even startling the Ghost.
In the very next second, the Ghost lunged at the woman and merged into her body. Soon, the two entities fused into one. The possessed host twitched unnaturally, her body contorting as she shambled away into the distance.
This gruesome scene sent chills down the spines of everyone watching. "It... it merged with her? What the..."
...
"Your Crown, the Wish Power of this city has been collected. Hundreds of millions of Wish Power in just a single day... Truly worthy of a major metropolis with such a massive Population!" Alvin exclaimed joyfully.
"Only a few hundred million? That is not much... quite low, actually." Bai Yang shook his head. "As expected, merely putting on a superficial spectacle significantly diminishes the Wish Power harvested. Moreover, the News broadcasts worldwide are further diluting the impact of this event!"
This was an unavoidable reality. People had a threshold for shock. Witnessing the Supernatural for the very first time versus seeing it again after knowing it existed were completely different experiences. The impact simply could not be compared.
"Then, Your Crown, are we going to let Shuten Doji continue his Rule over this city?" Alvin asked out of Curiosity. "Using these Ghosts and Monsters to Rule? Would that not lead to a massive loss in the Population?"
"Of course not. This is nothing more than a dress rehearsal!" Bai Yang declared. "The real story is still on its way!"
Though he held the ruling class in utter contempt, the Population of this city still served as an excellent source of Supernatural Wish Power.
For that reason, Bai Yang had no intention of truly destroying the city. Despair alone could not force people to believe and contribute Wish Power. Offering a sliver of hope amidst the Despair was the ultimate method for Harvesting Leeks!
"Come. Let us see who would make the most suitable Mythological Hero for this city!" Bai Yang chuckled. Sweeping his gaze over the metropolis, he locked onto his target.
"Since Shuten Doji has arrived, we naturally have to bring out Dōjigiri Yasutsuna for a spin. This way, observant people will definitely start paying closer attention to these ancient artifacts, granting them legendary power!"
The greatest difference between a place like Japan and Euro-American Countries was that Japan actually possessed genuine ancient artifacts, rather than mass-produced replicas made "last week."
Because of this historical depth, Bai Yang felt it would be incredibly easy to forge excellent Divine Faith artifacts here. The uniquely Japanese Three Sacred Treasures, or those legendary swords praised to the heavens, were perfect examples.
It did not matter if they were authentic or not. In his hands, even the most blatant fakes would become real!
