Chapter 28: Support from the Tribe

Chapter 28: Support from the Tribe

For a full day and night, seventy kilometers.

Ivan Ruiz carried the woman in his arms, traversing the streets, wilderness, and villages of San Diego, returning to the tribe.

Many people saw him along the way, but few dared to disturb him.

The man carried an extremely thick scent of blood, so potent it seemed to permeate the air around him, reaching those nearby.

Ordinary people desperately wanted to stay away, while the border lunatics, criminals, or gang members also had no desire to suddenly provoke such a dangerous man.

Even the San Diego police officers and FBI agents who had been tailing him from behind watched cautiously from a distance, showing no intention of approaching.

They had seen the surveillance footage and knew exactly what terrifying power lay hidden within this seemingly haggard man.

They weren't about to foolishly approach - earning just a few thousand dollars a month, why would they risk their lives?

Therefore, when they saw the gates of what was nominally a tribe but actually a casino - the Native American reservation - open, they all stopped in their tracks.

"Sir, what do we do now?" a police officer asked, watching Ivan's disappearing figure with curiosity.Beside him, the detective who was still smoking stubbed out his cigarette, "Report to the chief, and by the way, warn the local gangs... if they don't want their casinos turning into hellscapes too, they'd better behave themselves recently!"

"Yes, sir!" everyone responded.

But their vehicles didn't withdraw, instead remaining parked nearby, hardly different from the police standing guard in the area.

...

Native American reservations - special places that white Americans viewed as "benevolent grants."

Due to the enactment of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act and the tribal autonomy over reservations, these areas had become lawless zones within America.

Because of this, many large capital groups or gangs would cooperate with local Native American tribes to establish casinos, ostensibly to boost the economy, increase entrepreneurship, and reduce crime rates.

Of course, Ivan knew these were just excuses. In reality, how much money could their tribe actually earn?

Most of the money ended up in the hands of large gangs or major capitalists, while they only received meager income.

But their tribe was slightly better off. Over the years, all security facilities and most casino jobs had become tribe-selected work, improving their living conditions somewhat.

"Ivan? You're finally back!" As the gates opened, the man in security guard uniform saw the newcomer's face and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

It was late at night, and anyone coming to the casino at this hour required caution.

But seeing his good brother arrive, he was still happy, "I heard you went to San Diego with them. How was it? Did you buy Layla something nice?"

"Let me tell you, having a good girl like Layla as your wife is simply a blessing from the Divine King Camazotz..."

The gate was pushed open, and then he couldn't speak anymore.

Beneath a clean face was an almost blackened body, and a corpse covered in blood.

The corpse's face was intact, plain but deathly pale, while the body was clearly full of holes and wounds.

Wasn't this face exactly that of Layla Winnonah?

Seeing this scene, the guard's face darkened, "These bullet holes... who! Who did this? Who dares to target our people within San Diego's territory!"

"Come, I'll take you to the elder!" The guard pulled him to leave, "The elder will definitely make them pay the full price!"

But he couldn't move Ivan, not even shaking him slightly.

"Hall, no need!" Ivan said in a hoarse voice, "I've already killed them all!"

Holding the woman in his arms with one hand, he took a bag from his waist.

Hall took the bag and saw the teeth inside - when unable to bring back trophies and battle achievements, teeth and ears could prove the number of people killed by Celestial Warriors.

Dozens of densely packed teeth made Hall's pupils contract sharply!

He couldn't imagine what could have driven his usually honest friend to such actions, "You... you killed them all?"

"Yes!" Ivan nodded, "Take me to the elder, I need to tell him some things!"

The two moved forward, while the Native American security guards behind them closed the gate again. Watching Ivan's retreating figure, they showed deep thought and surprise, but no other intentions.

Soon, the two arrived at a wooden cabin behind the casino. In this highly modernized reservation, this cabin maintained strong Native American cultural characteristics!

And this was the residence of tribal elder and priest Carl.

As a descendant of the Maya people in the north, Carl was a middle-aged man who strictly adhered to ancient traditions. Even though many people had changed their names to live in Amerigo, Carl hadn't.

He was the true ruler of this tribe, having accomplished tribal unification and management over more than a decade, and seizing partial casino management rights from those gangs and companies.

It was precisely because of his strength and power that everyone in the entire tribe respected him immensely.

But even such a person appeared somewhat stunned when he saw Ivan walking in carrying Layla.

Even more stunned was when he heard Ivan recount his experiences.

Hall, standing nearby, was utterly dumbfounded upon hearing these stories, "This... sacrificing to the god Cocijo? I... I'm usually the least respectful about sacrificial rituals..."

To make them believe faster, Ivan set down Layla's body, then picked up a deer antler from the room - this was Carl's treasure, a masterpiece from his hunting days when he was young.

But the next second, he no longer cared about this deer antler, because Ivan directly rubbed the antler into powder with his hands!

This nearly superhuman power made Carl freeze for several seconds. These few seconds seemed insufficient to Ivan, so he picked up the hunting rifle from the wall.

Then, holding the hunting rifle, he aimed it at his own head and fired without hesitation!

"Bang!" The gunshot startled everyone, and many footsteps could be heard approaching from outside the room.

But Carl and Hall could see that Ivan was completely unharmed, with the hunting rifle's shattered pellets at his feet.

After witnessing this scene, Carl no longer hesitated, "Hall, close the casino, expel everyone who isn't from our tribe!"

"Elder, this will make those customers unhappy..." Hall said.

"So what if they're unhappy?" Carl turned around, his face full of ferocity and ambition, "What can they do even if they're unhappy? Can they massacre us again?"

Hearing these words, Hall fell silent and nodded before leaving.

Carl was right - even if Native Americans beat up these white and black people, in this country obsessed with "political correctness," nothing would happen to them.

After all, they held the highest legal authority on this continent. As long as Amerigo wanted to continue existing on this continent, they couldn't touch them!

Moreover...

Carl looked at Ivan, "You are Cocijo's warrior? That god of sacrifice and war, destruction and cruelty?"

"Yes!" Ivan said, "Elder, I hope to place Layla in the tribal grounds. The deity promised me that Layla's soul wouldn't be sent to the land of death, her body won't decay. I want... to save her!"

Looking at the woman's body, Carl nodded. He indeed didn't detect any odor of decay, as if the woman wasn't dead but merely asleep.

"I agree. Since it's the divine will, we should naturally comply! I will personally place her there and perform sacrifices!" The tribal elder looked at the new Celestial Warrior, "Then Ivan, you say if we sacrifice to Him again, will we receive a response?"

Ivan nodded without hesitation, "Yes! I am His warrior, and also His priest! He will definitely respond to our sacrifices!"

He could sense that although Cocijo didn't particularly care about him, He couldn't be indifferent to faith.

Ivan rubbed the bracelet on his hand, which emitted a faint glow, seemingly supporting them.

"That's enough!" Looking at this scene, Carl said loudly, striding out the door and speaking to the people outside, "Notify all tribe members to return to the tribe! Notify all Apache people to gather here!"

"I want... to restart the sacrifices, I want... to sacrifice to the Maya pantheon again!"
