Chapter 237: This is Shituling!
Chapter 237: This is Shituling!
"Tock!"
The sound of the Wooden Fish rang in everyone's ears, startling many!
Wait, where was this sound coming from? How could everyone hear it?
They looked around with solemn expressions but saw nothing else. They could only hear this sound—crisp, slow, and unceasing!
Meanwhile, under these circumstances and amidst the crisp sounds of the Wooden Fish, the Buddhist Monk before them fell backward.
The power of the Bullet was real, as was the damage. He did not possess a powerful physical body, so this single shot killed him.
He had not even managed to reach the Police Station, and he would never have the chance to do so again. He had completely lost his physical body, dead beyond dead!
"Since it is so, let it be this way for now!" Zanluo said softly. Then, amidst the sound of the Wooden Fish and under everyone's watchful eyes, he slowly rose into the air!
His body still lay on the ground beneath him; his physical form was dead. Therefore, what ascended this time was his Soul!
That illusory Soul, radiating a golden light, simply appeared on the street, materializing in everyone's eyes and manifesting in this world. This left everyone dumbfounded. The two police officers who had fired their guns were also stunned. Wait a minute! What exactly had they just shot and killed?
In an instant, they mentally cursed the Brahmin who had issued the bounty! Bullshit, you made us come and kill someone like this?
If there was anything in this world that could rival the holy light of an Angelic Descent, it had to be the Buddha's Golden Light!
These Buddhist Monks truly understood the visual impact of holy light. So, when Zanluo utilized it, the effect was absolutely breathtaking.
This was especially true now. When the gunshot rang out, drawing the gazes of many across the city, the spectacle was even more pronounced!
Many people instantly dropped to their knees. They did not even know why they were kneeling, but they simply felt compelled to do so first!
Golden light bathed the entire city. The golden monk appeared before everyone like a second sun. Even though his body was illusory, it did not change the fact that his power was completely real.
"Return, my belongings. Return, my will!"
Zanluo spoke, gently beckoning with his hand. The items that were currently being taken away to be sold suddenly flew back directly from the thieves' hands, from their homes, or from wherever else they had been stashed.
They phased through houses and buildings, shattered car windows and walls, and flew toward the source of the golden light before the eyes of countless onlookers!
Naturally, this scene was also witnessed by numerous observers, leaving them terrified and in awe!
Two special agents from Japan were particularly dumbfounded when they saw this. "Is this... a Golden-Bodied Arhat? His physical body is destroyed, yet his primal spirit remains intact. Isn't this the legendary Arhat's Fruit of Enlightenment?"
After all, they came from a country where Buddhism had once flourished. Although it no longer held its former glory due to the suppression by domestic Shinto practitioners, they still possessed enough basic knowledge.
Furthermore, agents capable of being dispatched to this country were exceptionally knowledgeable. The man who spoke had even spent a considerable portion of his childhood in a temple.
Hearing his words, an America agent standing nearby asked out of curiosity, "What does the Arhat's Fruit of Enlightenment mean? Can you explain it more clearly?"
The Americans were the true masters of resource allocation. They were not afraid of being ignorant about these things at all, because they knew someone else would understand—such as the Japan agents, who were exactly the knowledgeable type.
"An Arhat is a spiritual rank in Buddhism. Only a Perfectly Enlightened One can become an Arhat. It is the highest attainment in Hinayana Buddhism, representing a Unique Mental State!" the Japan agent explained. "You can compare it to the status of Low-Level Angels or saints in Christianity—beings with divine nature and power, but not necessarily holding a high rank!"
"So they aren't actually that strong," the American replied casually.
"No, no, no!" the Japan agent immediately denied it. "That is not true at all. Because the Buddha does not emerge and Bodhisattvas do not manifest, Arhats are actually among the most powerful beings in terms of Combat Power within Buddhist legends. That is why terms like the Eighteen Arhats and Golden-Bodied Arhat exist!"
"You must understand, even those legendary figures like Venerable Ananda and Kashyapa were only Arhats!"
The agent spoke with a hint of dread. "Now, they have infuriated an Arhat, and I am a little terrified! If an Arhat has truly descended to the world, won't we be caught in the crossfire?"
After truly understanding Transcendence, grasping the significance of the Buddhist Sect, and witnessing a Buddhist Monk radiating golden light all over, no one could remain unafraid!
"Doesn't the saying go 'Lord Buddha is compassionate'? Why are you so terrified?" the person beside him asked, looking somewhat puzzled.
"Because Lord Buddha is merciful, but Arhats are not! They represent the right fruit of spiritual practice, the true awakening. Their existence signifies being the Slayer of Inner Enemies, achieving No Rebirth, and being Worthy of Offerings. This one is a Slayer of Inner Enemies!" The Japan agent said, trembling slightly. "He has already begun chanting the Buddhist Verse. He is going to be... furious!"
Zanluo was indeed furious. This was not the anger of his Soul, but the rage of his physical body.
After all, when he searched for evil, he found no punishment for it; when he sought out good, he found no kindness. The people in this city were truly disgusting and absolutely appalling!
However, just as he opened his mouth to recite "Thus have I heard," Alvin suddenly appeared before him.
"Should I call you Zanluo, or should I call you Wutian?" Alvin asked curiously. His figure appeared, yet he remained invisible to everyone else; only Zanluo could see him.
"Call me Zanluo. Since I have taken the form of Zanluo, I am Zanluo!" the Buddhist Monk said calmly.
"Very well. You can continue being your monk Zanluo, the Kinnara Bodhisattva. How about we help you orchestrate a grand performance?" Alvin suggested.
"What kind of performance?" Zanluo asked curiously. "A performance where illusion and reality intertwine, of course!" Alvin raised his hand. The ethereal psychic energy in his palm suddenly expanded, transforming into a vividly real projection of mental power that encompassed the city!
"The Crown says this is the Void Realm, this is the Desire of Greed, and this is—Shituling!"
"Monk Zanluo, are you willing to be the savior of this Shituling?"
Zanluo laughed. "Savior? Heh! How much can be salvaged? How many can be saved? It would be better to let them be endlessly ground down in this massive millstone, turning them into fertilizer!"
"Namo Amitabha!" he declared loudly, his chant shaking the heavens and the earth!
"Namo Medicine Buddha of the West!" Alvin chimed in casually, pressing his palms together in a respectful bow before his body vanished.
In the next second, Alvin appeared beside Bai Yang. "Crown, he has agreed!"
"Excellent!" Bai Yang nodded. Without further hesitation, he tapped his finger, summoning a spark of divine fire. It was the Christian Fire, and blossoming within the flames was the illusory Wish Power that Bishop Rasinger, who had now become a Saint, had collected during his time Proselytizing.
He had already smoothed things over in that world, gradually replacing any Divine Faith that did not belong to The Lord with faith in Him.
During this time, Bai Yang also guided Alvin, having him swap out the originally Illusory Persona for real souls. With the assistance of The Core, this was not a difficult task.
The world that initially held only two hundred thousand normal human souls now housed a million stationed souls. If he continued to fill it, perhaps tens of millions of souls could eventually take up residence there.
When that time came, collecting Wish Power would become incredibly simple for him.
And at this moment, the Wish Power that had been gathered was scattered unhesitatingly by Bai Yang. Only this time, the target of his expenditure was the entire city!
"The death and resentment here are truly far too diverse. I wouldn't be satisfied if I didn't harvest it all!" Bai Yang said. "So, this city built on excrement and death, with its lower-caste Dalit, middle-caste Vaishya and Shudra, and high-caste Brahmin... isn't this just a new Shituling?"
"However, the man-eating monsters in Shituling merely devour people physically! But the cannibalistic nature of this city chews people up, swallows them down, and vomits them back out in a vicious cycle of exploitation!"
Beneath the hazy radiance, the entire city suddenly ground to a halt. In the exact moment Bai Yang nodded and Zanluo lowered his eyes, Wish Power swept through the entire metropolis.
Everyone was a target, and everyone descended into an illusory dream, transported to that terrifying realm.
Only Zanluo, right before entering, gazed off into the distance. The Soul in his hand was released as he softly chanted a Buddhist Verse:
"The Dharma's fundamental nature is formless, yet this formlessness is the Dharma itself. Now, as this formless Dharma is bestowed, when has any Dharma ever truly been fixed?"
Like the spiritual light of Buddha, it enveloped a specific individual.
Sur, who had just been brought to the Police Station by the police, suddenly raised his head, as if his mind had been touched by a stroke of divine grace.
He could sense a peculiar emotion guiding him to look up, and then he saw an ethereal Soul rushing straight toward him!
"Dad!" the Soul cried out. That face... was it not his son?
Sur's eyes, which had not shed a tear in decades, suddenly overflowed with the tears of an old man. "My child... my child... you... hoo hoo hoo..."
In the end, father and son met again. In the end, they recognized each other. One real and one illusory Soul reunited in this world.
Meanwhile, all around them were people who had fallen into a deep slumber!
Goodness had its cause, and evil would face its consequences!
What lay before the eyes of these slumbering people was the sinful millstone of the four-hundred-kilometer Shituling:
Skulls formed ridges, and skeletons stood like a forest. Human hair was matted into felt, and human flesh rotted into mud and dust. Human tendons were tangled in the trees, dried and baked until they gleamed as bright as silver. It was truly a scene of Mountains of Corpses and Seas of Blood, releasing an incredibly foul and bloody stench. On the east side, Minor Demons captured living people and carved off their flesh; down on the west side, vicious fiends boiled and cooked human meat fresh on the spot.
"The sins of this city are so abundant that even after fully constructing Shituling, there is still leftover!" Bai Yang marveled.
