Chapter 168: A Story About Slaying a Dragon

Chapter 168: A Story About Slaying a Dragon

This was naturally Bai Yang's masterpiece, without a doubt.

He stood at the edge of the area, watching the crowd's display of fanaticism, curiosity, and expectation, and nodded in satisfaction.

These people had contributed their Wish Power almost immediately. This was the benefit of the global atmosphere he had recently cultivated.

The Supernatural was no longer a pseudo-concept; it had become a genuine attribute trusted by everyone. No matter who they were, witnessing the Supernatural would make them believe in its authenticity. This was the power of reputation.

Of course, this also led to Supernatural Scammers running rampant across the globe, but that was a story for another time.

The existence of scammers had never been due to an abundance of scammers, but rather an abundance of fools.

It was a well-known fact that a surplus of fools led to a shortage of scammers. Therefore, this issue was unsolvable unless fools ceased to exist in the world.

Alvin stood beside Bai Yang and asked curiously, "Crown, are you orchestrating another Screening of Hearts?"

"Mhm!" Bai Yang nodded. "Yes, it is still the familiar Screening of Hearts. If they are not greedy, this will be an excellent extraordinary adventure. But if they succumb to greed... Heh heh, there is something waiting for them too!"

Alvin shrugged. "I think you might want to skip the screening next time. With so many people, a scenario where absolutely no one is greedy is simply impossible!""It is not entirely impossible. As long as the leader can keep the others in line, there is a chance!" Bai Yang stated. "If they cannot control themselves, then they shall all prosper or all suffer together!"

"Your will!" Alvin bowed his head, conceding the point.

Bai Yang gazed at the professors, teachers, and students, his eyes narrowing slightly. "This is also a form of reckoning, one that will only be triggered by the Greedy!"

"In America, those old, undying thieves are the ones meant for reckoning. This time, I am highly anticipating to see exactly who will rush forward to throw their lives away!"

...

"The professor... he can actually read it!" Everyone was astounded.

"Professor Erik is not only a luminary in geology but also an expert professor of paleoanthropology. He has excavated the skulls of Homo sapiens and Homo habilis, and he has also unearthed many Viking tombs in Northern Europe!" someone explained.

Olavur chimed in to clarify, "Runes were the most crucial language to understand in ancient times! They can reveal the lives and experiences of nobles from that era. The professor has been studying them for a very long time!"

"Because this kind of study often yields historical corroboration directly, avoiding the need to wait for someone else's verification!"

Hearing this, the crowd nodded in sudden realization. So that was how it was...

As expected of a luminary. Unwilling to wait for others' verification, he simply learned it himself. What a fierce dedication!

Meanwhile, as the stone wall parted, Professor Tore Erik was already walking slowly toward the mysterious space.

Watching him, no one wanted to fall behind, so they hurriedly followed.

This was the Supernatural. Even if they did not encounter any great opportunities, they still wanted to go over and witness the marvel. Besides, who knew what might happen?

Everyone was human. If others could make contact with the Supernatural, there was no reason they could not do the same!

The group walked through the stone passage for another few minutes. Upon reaching a much larger cavern, they suddenly felt a sense of vast openness.

A stone door appeared before them. Professor Tore boldly remained at the forefront, observing everything around him as he slowly pushed open the door.

"Hey, did you guys notice? We are obviously walking inside a mountain, yet we have not even used our flashlights. Where is this light coming from?" a teacher suddenly pointed out.

At those words, everyone froze. He was right. This was a stone cave. There were no lamps and no skylights. How could they see so clearly?

They instinctively looked around, only to realize that the surrounding stone walls were emitting a very gentle glow, illuminating the area so naturally that they had not even noticed!

"Not only that, but there is no wind in this cave, which means the air is not circulating. Yet, we haven't felt any discomfort whatsoever..." Olavur observed. "Is this also a mystical power?"

The crowd exchanged glances. Amidst their ambition and expectation, a substantial dose of caution suddenly arose. Only then did they continue moving forward.

"Professor!" Olavur casually called out as he stepped into the space, but he abruptly froze.

He saw Tore standing rooted to the spot, staring at the wall ahead. And on that wall, a massive dragon's head was looking straight back at them! Yes, a dragon's head. The head of a legendary dragon was so clear and intact, looking exactly as if it were alive. Its fixed gaze made everyone's hearts skip a beat!

The sensation of mythology descending into reality manifested with absolute clarity right before everyone's eyes!

"My God!" an American blurted out the moment he entered, only to be immediately shushed and pulled back by someone else. "This is the domain of the Norse Gods. Are you trying to act like they do not exist by calling out to God right from the start?"

The recent events surrounding the Norse Gods had caused an uproar worldwide, so of course, they were all aware!

The young student sheepishly shut his mouth, but he did not lower his head. Instead, he kept his gaze fixed on the dragon head, reluctant to look away.

It was the head of a black dragon. The lifelike visage, the scales gleaming with a metallic luster, and the eyes as large as bronze bells struck fear into everyone who saw it, swiftly followed by profound awe!

"Professor!" Olavur continued to call out to Tore.

"To think that the heavily debated dragons actually exist!" Tore's voice echoed slowly, drawing everyone's attention upward. "Unfortunately, it is already dead!"

"Dead?" Hearing this, a student gathered his courage, stood up, and took a curious step forward. "Professor, how do you know?"

"Because someone left a message saying so!" Tore pointed to the characters etched into the wall on the side. The ancient engraved text appeared to be Rune Script as well, twisted and bizarre. No one else could read it.

Knowing they could not understand, Tore translated, "We are Orpheus and Delian. We killed the black dragon, but we could not escape its curse."

Not only did Tore read the inscription in English, but he also recited it again in the Ancient Language. He had a strong feeling that these Runes served a purpose far beyond mere writing and recording!

And his guess was correct. As those words were spoken aloud, the massive dragon head slowly retreated before their eyes, along with the very walls of the room.

An even vaster space was revealed. Accompanying this new area was a much more brilliant light, as well as the materialization of two figures!

The two figures had very peculiar appearances. One was thick and stout, while the other was thin but not frail. They simply popped out from within the space.

"Hahaha, Orpheus, I won! We actually waited long enough. Fate did not deceive us!" the stout figure boomed, but then he noticed the incredibly blank stares of the group before him and looked a bit confused. "Hey... why are they not speaking?"

"Obviously, it is because times have changed, and they can no longer understand our language!" the thin figure replied. A speck of radiance appeared in his hand and showered down upon the space.

"I have read their linguistic system. Now, they should be able to understand our words!" The tall, thin figure waved his hand once more. The two of them, who were originally illusory projections made of light, actually transformed into solid, tangible bodies right in front of the professors and students!

"Witchcraft has helped us learn your language. We are very glad to have awaited your arrival, humans!"

"You... what are you..." The group was so terrified that they barely dared to speak. Although they had guessed this was a Supernatural event, could it really be this incredibly Supernatural?

These two were clearly not human at all!

One was a thin, mysterious creature with skin so pale it practically glowed, and his body seemed to bear runic markings. The other was incredibly stout, looking as if his waist was wider than his height, with remarkably thick legs and feet that clearly exuded immense strength.

"Orpheus, Light Elf," the thin one introduced himself.

"Delian, Dwarf," the fat one said.

Hearing these two terms, everyone finally snapped back to reality. The recent rise of Norse Mythology was vivid in their minds, so the appearance of two fantasy creatures straight out of myth did not seem entirely impossible to comprehend—as if!

Their hearts were practically in their throats! This kind of thing might sound perfectly reasonable when discussed, but truly experiencing it firsthand made them realize just how nerve-wracking it was.

These two were visibly powerful beings. The smarter ones among the group even recalled Professor Tore's earlier translation, and their eyes filled with absolute fear as they stared at the pair.

These were the exact two individuals who had slain a dragon!

The only one who remained relatively composed was Professor Tore Erik. He stood calmly before the pair and asked curiously, "I saw your message stating that you suffered from the black dragon's curse, but you seem to be..."

At those words, the two burst into loud laughter. "Hahahahaha! In truth, we died a long time ago. Only our souls remain, and we have yet to depart for Helheim!"

"That is because we must fulfill our oath. We must wait here for the arrival of that king's descendant..."

At that moment, the pair's gazes pierced through the crowd and landed squarely on Olavur. Smiling, they declared, "We have finally waited long enough for you, descendant of Sigurd, descendant of Dragon Slayers!"

Everyone's eyes instantly shifted to Olavur, leaving him utterly bewildered.
