Chapter 130: Corpses Everywhere, Sins Everywhere
Chapter 130: Corpses Everywhere, Sins Everywhere
Even though there were a million people in the live broadcast, it was now as silent as the grave. Even the comments had thinned out, leaving only Jeff and the others on the screen.
This terrifying sight made everyone feel as though they were suffocating.
A staff member took Drake to a room to rest, while the remaining people followed Jeff, embarking on an unusual journey to "search for corpses."
In this abandoned boarding school, they followed those tiny figures, searching for their bodies.
The group walked into the kitchen. In the deepest part of the cupboards, they found a twisted skeleton and a tiny dog bowl;
In the school's bathroom, they also discovered a set of white bones hidden deep inside;
Under the beds in the dormitory, they found fragmented bones bearing marks that looked as though they had been gnawed by dogs...
After finding two or three sets of remains, Caitlin could no longer handle it. She ran to the side to sob and vomit, as if doing so might make her feel just a little bit better.
Humans were the most empathetic species in this world. Because of this, they could vividly feel the terrifying, bone-chilling malice radiating from these white skeletons!
The locations where these remains were found and the peculiar injuries scarring them all pointed to a singular truth: this place was not so much a school as it was a prison!A special prison designed by the immigrants for the Original Inhabitants, built to systematically cleanse and butcher them!
And this was far from the end; rather, it was merely the beginning.
After uncovering the horrors inside the building, they stepped outside. Behind the structure lay an empty plot of land that seemed to have been used for growing vegetables and trees.
Then, the tiny figures stopped in that clearing and slowly turned their gazes toward Jeff and the others.
Jeff felt a heavy weight pressing against his chest, and an indescribable terror surfaced in his eyes. "Are you saying... there are more down here?"
The children did not speak. They only watched him in silence. Some did not even have eyes, staring at him with hollow, empty sockets.
Then, a rustling sound echoed from the earth, and small, short shadows began to crawl out from beneath the ground.
One after another, in an endless procession, they clawed their way up to the surface.
They simply stood there in dead silence, fixing their gazes on the group.
Unlike the children that had appeared inside the building, these figures looked completely normal, seemingly devoid of any injuries.
But there was still a horrifying difference. Jeff noticed something unnatural about the foreheads of a few children. Peering closer, he realized they were bloody holes!
'So... they were actually shot to death... Ah...'
Without another word, Jeff grabbed a nearby shovel and began to dig.
The soil here was soft and fertile, blanketed in lush flowers and grass. It looked like an incredibly nourishing plot of land.
But the moment he thought about what was buried beneath the dirt and where that fertility came from, a wave of nauseating revulsion washed over him.
This sort of thing was simply too abhorrent for any modern person to fathom. How could they, having grown up in civilization, ever accept such exceptionally cruel and barbaric acts?
Under these circumstances, even the appearance of ghosts was no longer a major concern. Instead, it felt like a very, very trivial matter in comparison.
He did not have to dig for long before the outline of white bones appeared. Jeff carefully lifted them out, only to realize he did not need to dig any further.
Because right beneath those remains, once the dirt was brushed away, lay layer upon layer of what seemed like an endless sea of white bones!
Now, everyone finally understood exactly where the multitudes of people who had just crawled up came from...
"Bang!" Right at that moment, the sharp report of a Gun echoed from inside the building, sending a violent shudder through everyone present!
In that split second, all the shadows standing before them vanished in the blink of an eye, as if they had never existed.
The group fell into a stunned silence before rushing toward the source of the gunshot.
Soon, a pushed-open door revealed the scene inside. Caitlin was holding a Gun, and in front of her was Drake, who had been shot.
However, Drake was not dead. He had merely taken a bullet to the shoulder and was lying on the ground, gasping for air.
"What happened?!" Jeff exclaimed as he barged in.
Panting heavily, Drake pointed at Caitlin and yelled, "Quick, stop her! She is trying to kill herself!"
No Sooner Had the Words Fallen than Caitlin pressed the Gun against her own temple. Her eyes held a deathly, indifferent stillness. "Do not stop me. I really will shoot, just like I did just now!" Jeff looked at her in shock and pleaded, "Caitlin, things are not that bad! We can actually make it out of here, it is not as dangerous as it seems..."
He thought Caitlin had suffered a mental breakdown from the overwhelming presence of so many spirits, which was why she was acting so hysterically, prompting him to quickly try to comfort her.
"Say no more, Mr. Ferguson!" Caitlin interrupted. "That is not why I want to kill myself..."
Her gaze was clear yet completely detached. Keeping the Gun pressed to her head, she whispered, "You guys did not know, did you? This boarding school is my family's property. This entire expedition was planned by them..."
A miserable expression overtook Caitlin's face. "They said this place might serve as the starting point for our family's resurgence... Heh..."
"I honestly believed what my family told me in the past. They said our family's boarding school was the cleanest among all the surrounding schools, and the one that had existed the longest..."
"And so, our family built its foundation and rose to prominence a hundred and fifty years ago using the money earned from this boarding school..."
"Hahahahaha!" She burst into a maniacal fit of laughter, laced with utter madness and absolute despair. "I believed it! I actually fucking believed it! That is why I brought you all here, thinking it was a grand opportunity for my family!"
She pointed at everything around them, and the crushing weight of her collapse mirrored in everyone else's eyes!
"But is this an opportunity? No, it is Sin!"
"This is the generational Sin of our family! Every single person in my family lives steeped in this Sin!"
"When was I ever just going to school, eating food, or wearing clothes? I was born into this world treading on their flesh, drinking their blood, and stepping on their marrow!"
Caitlin offered a tragic smile. "But I have no voice in my family. I do not even have inheritance rights, only the right to be a puppet, so..."
"Mr. Ferguson, do you understand now?"
Hearing those words, no matter how dense Jeff might have been, he fully understood.
It was not that Caitlin had failed to think things through. Quite the opposite, she understood things all too clearly!
Only because she had grown up surrounded by this place did she uncover its truth, realizing just how cruel and horrifying it truly was.
This blonde, busty woman, who in any horror movie would be pigeonholed as the token attractive yet brainless character, suddenly tossed out a book. "Following my family's habits, I searched this place and found an old logbook... Heh, a logbook! They actually kept a record of these atrocities!"
"I am going to Hell, I know that. But I also know that In Hell, I will be waiting for the rest of my family to join me!"
"Bang!" The Gun went off. The woman's brains and blood splattered outward, painting the already dark, stained walls with a fresh, familiar coat of crimson.
Leaving the people present, as well as the audience in the live broadcast, in absolute silence...
"Hoo..." Trembling, Jeff took a deep breath. Slowly recovering from that indescribable swell of emotion, he flipped open the logbook in front of him. The Camera on his chest synchronized the contents directly to the live broadcast:
"Today is the first day of school, and I am very happy. After all, a group of lovely children will be arriving soon, and they will definitely make this place much more lively. I should memorize their names first, though, or else we might end up short a few people tomorrow..."
"Ah, the Governor came for an inspection and gave a good review, telling me to keep up the good work? That is wonderful. It is just a shame someone accidentally ran out. How could they be so careless, and only half of them managed to get out?"
"The students are all studying English and our culture diligently. This is excellent; they will forget their old habits and embrace true civilization!"
"Oh dear, how did two more children run off? So careless. I helped pick up the other half of them for you, so hurry and thank me!"
"This year is over, and more children will come next year. Good, very good. I truly am a splendid educator!"
...
"Hell is empty, and the Demons are on Earth!"
"This does not read like a family logbook; it reads like a true record of Demons..."
The words scrawled on these pages did not seem like they were written by a human. As Jeff read them, a freezing chill surged through his heart.
No wonder Caitlin committed suicide. Anyone who could look at these things without going mad would have to possess a mind of steel.
Especially when realizing that every single person mentioned in the logbook was a child between the ages of eight and twelve, that icy terror became utterly irrepressible.
He looked at the building beside him once again. This was no ordinary structure; this was a fortress of Hell!
Those who proudly styled themselves as civilized had orchestrated an unimaginably horrific massacre upon those children right here!
This building, constructed upon a foundation of corpses and vengeful souls, exuded a darkness that made one tremble in absolute horror!
