Chapter 381: Frieren Loves Playing the Dog Game
Chapter 381: Frieren Loves Playing the Dog Game
On the rugged mountain path, Frieren walked ahead, holding a sample of mana extracted from the residual light specks of Aura's Obedience Magic, attempting to analyze it.
This mana structure... truly interesting.
It wasn't a simple attack or defense, but leaned more toward a rule-based compulsion.
Once the spell was cast, it constructed a temporary absolute domain to compare the total mana of both parties.
Within this domain, the will of the one with weaker mana would be temporarily overwritten, replaced by obedience to the stronger one.
The intensity and duration of the magic seemed related to the willpower of the controlled person. If the opponent's willpower was strong, there might even be a risk of failure.
"It seems to be a variation of some high-ranking Mental Magic, fused with elements of Contract Magic..." Frieren muttered to herself unconsciously. "To act directly on the soul level... as expected of the innate magical talent of demons. Truly remarkable."
Behind her, the dejected Aura heard Frieren's seemingly admiring analysis, and her dull eyes lit up instantly.
She puffed out her not-so-prominent chest subconsciously, chin lifting slightly. Even her dark red horns seemed to gain a bit more luster.
Despite being a prisoner, when her prized innate magic was mentioned, she couldn't suppress the instinct to show off.
Even the weakest demon would puff out their chest proudly when their vaunted magical talent was brought up.
Aura was no exception.
"Of course!" Aura's voice grew slightly bolder, trying to sound less pathetic.
"This is the innate magic I, the great Aura, was born with! Unique! You elves and humans, even if you live forever and learn countless spells, can absolutely never master magic of this level!"
She got a bit carried away, seemingly forgetting momentarily the tragic fact that she had just suffered a backlash from this very magic and become a servant.
Hearing this, Frieren didn't stop walking. She just turned her head and glanced at Aura indifferently.
There was no anger, just perfect calm, yet it instantly extinguished the little pride Aura had just mustered.
"Why would I need to learn it?" Frieren said. "I only need to become your master. Isn't that enough?"
This sentence instantly made someone lose their cool.
"You—!" Aura's face flushed red, half from embarrassment, half from anger.
She pointed at Frieren's back, her voice shrill with agitation. "If not... if not for you despicable elf deliberately hiding your mana, pretending to be weak, how could I have used this magic on you!"
"I, the great Aura, choose my opponents too, you know!"
"Who would have thought a mage could be so shameless, hiding their mana so completely, throwing away all the dignity of a strong one? Simply worse than a demon—"
Her voice grew quieter and slower, the last few words almost inaudible.
Because she saw Frieren, who had been walking ahead, stop completely and turn around fully, looking at her quietly.
Stared at like this, Aura instantly felt an invisible pressure descend, choking her remaining words back into her throat.
Her heart skipped a beat, and an ominous premonition arose.
Sure enough.
Frieren spoke slowly, "You seem... a bit too arrogant. Kneel."
Two simple words, yet they acted like a switch.
Aura's body stiffened violently. The contract of Obedience Magic deep in her soul took effect instantly. Her knees went weak uncontrollably, and she knelt solidly on the ground with a thud.
The pain from her knees made her grunt, but the humiliation of this involuntary posture stung even more.
Only then did Frieren walk slowly back to Aura.
She drew her staff, holding it in her hand as she looked down from above at the pink-haired demon trembling slightly from humiliation and fear.
Sunlight was blocked by her figure, casting a shadow over Aura's face.
Frieren said nothing. She simply raised her staff, pointing the tip at Aura's forehead.
Mana began to gather. The air in front of the staff tip twisted slightly as a magic circle began to take shape.
Aura's eyes widened. She could feel the terrifying power contained within that magic circle—absolutely enough to pierce her head easily.
What terrified her even more was the killing intent she felt from Frieren.
This elf... will really kill me!
"Eeek! No! Lord Frieren! I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! Don't kill me!!!"
Aura was scared out of her wits. Pride, unwillingness—all thrown to the winds. Only the most primal desire to survive remained.
She suddenly regretted spending so much time with that strange fellow who was neither human nor demon. It had made her emotions overly rich, turning her cowardly and afraid of death.
But it was too late to say this now.
Frieren remained silent, her expression unchanged, as if she hadn't heard the begging.
She just watched quietly as the light in the center of the magic circle grew brighter, mana gathering to its peak—
Pew—!
A beam of light shot from the center of the magic circle.
Aura closed her eyes in despair, waiting for death to descend.
However, the expected pain didn't come.
The beam grazed Aura's cheek, the scorching airflow even singeing a few strands of her pink hair. The wind pressure stung her face.
Finally, the beam struck a large tree a few steps behind her, leaving a hole with scorched edges.
Aura froze in place, her mind blank.
After several seconds, she opened one eye cautiously.
What entered her view was Frieren having already put away her staff, and those still incredibly indifferent eyes.
Missed! She missed on purpose!
Realizing this, a massive sense of relief from surviving a disaster washed over Aura.
Her body went limp, her heart pounded wildly, cold sweat soaked her back instantly, and a warm dampness quietly spread from somewhere in her dress.
Frieren paid no mind to this small episode. Her gaze swept over Aura's face, pale as paper. "From now on, you must remember. I, Frieren, am your master."
She leaned down slightly, using the end of her staff to lift Aura's chin, forcing the demon to look at her.
"As a servant, act like a servant. Speak cautiously, act carefully, obey orders. And do not forget, you are a demon."
"In any other place on this continent, facing any other mage or warrior, the moment you tried to act against that village, you would already be a dead thing."
Aura nodded desperately, unable to say a word.
Her fear of Frieren had penetrated her bones; she dared not harbor even half a hope of luck.
There was no helping it. This elven mage was too powerful. Under the enhancement of Obedience Magic, she couldn't muster any thought of resistance.
"Very good." Frieren straightened up, seemingly satisfied with her reaction.
She put away her staff, took a step back, and began issuing new commands.
"Stand up."
Aura's body trembled. Under the power of the contract, she stood up shakily, her legs still weak.
"Turn around three times."
Biting her lip, Aura turned three times on the spot as ordered, her skirt fluttering.
"Bark like a dog."
"Woof... woof..." Aura's voice was as faint as a mosquito, but she barked nonetheless.
"Jump until I say stop."
Aura began to jump clumsily, looking rather comical.
Frieren stood by, watching quietly, her face still expressionless.
These commands were ones she had accidentally seen a human use to train a puppy long ago. Now, using them on Aura, she felt it was most appropriate.
Of course, the most crucial step was missing.
"Lie down, belly up."
Aura's body stiffened. This posture...
But she dared not delay. As ordered, she lay on her back on the ground, limbs curled unnaturally upward. Her clothes rode up slightly, revealing her soft abdomen.
This was the posture of a canine showing absolute submission and trust.
She closed her eyes. The extreme humiliation made her wish for death, but the power of the contract wouldn't even allow her to seek death.
Frieren walked to her side, looking down at her for a few seconds. The pink-haired demon girl lay on the ground, clothes disheveled, body trembling lightly from fear and shame.
"That is enough. Get up and follow."
She didn't spare Aura another glance, turning to continue walking in the predetermined direction.
Granted amnesty, Aura struggled up from the ground, rubbed her eyes messily, didn't even bother to adjust her clothes, lowered her head, and stumbled to follow.
At least... the opponent didn't kill her on the spot.
