Chapter 749 - 759 Dead Heart (7)
Qiao Mo felt like she might be blind, or as the elders would say, blinded by lard.Whenever she thought of his indifferent gaze during the car accident, and the sight of him walking away hand in hand with Qiao Yun, she couldn’t help but chuckle bitterly, thinking that she was probably the biggest fool in the world!
The few abrasions on her cheeks shot with pain as her laughter dragged them.
As she laughed, her tears welled up again.
She lowered her eyes gently, overwhelmed by sadness.
...
Two days later, Fu Nancheng still had not visited her.
Qiao Mo’s emotions had gradually settled down. After eating each day, she would zone out alone, and perhaps fearing they would worry, she occasionally showed them a smile uglier than a cry.
"Xiao Mo, should I take you out for a walk? The sun is nice today," Jing Hao carefully wiped the wounds on her face.
Even though it was just abrasions, after all, she was a girl, and wounds on the face, if not treated properly, could leave scars.
"No, I want to call Fu Nancheng." Qiao Mo spoke softly.
The cotton swab in his hand paused slightly, and he looked at her without a word.
In the end, he lowered his gaze to hide the depth in his eyes, and said softly, "Then I’ll go buy you some fruit."
"Okay."
Reluctantly, he rearranged the covers on her, checked the infusion dosage, and left her a cup of warm water before turning to leave.
Qiao Mo watched his back and said softly, "Jing Hao."
Jing Hao’s steps faltered slightly, stopping at the door without turning around.
"Thank you," she said softly, and he made no reply, closing the door gently as he left.
Qiao Mo picked up the phone from the bedside, finding the familiar number. She stared blankly at it for a while before finally dialing his number.
Fu Nancheng looked at the number, momentarily taken aback as Qiao Yun peered over, "Is it sister?"
"Yes."
His phone had been kept on these past few days, just so he wouldn’t miss her call.
He just didn’t expect that she would call only today.
He knew, he must have disappointed her terribly.
"Hello?" he answered coldly, trying to maintain a measure of indifference, although not truly feeling so detached.
Upon hearing his voice, Qiao Mo felt disoriented, as if an entire light-year separated them, rendering him distant and unfamiliar.
Her grip on the phone tightened uncontrollably, and after ten seconds, she slowly spoke, "Do you have time?"
Fu Nancheng was slightly stunned, about to say yes, but held it back forcibly.
Qiao Yun had been clinging to him these days, not allowing him the chance to see Qiao Mo.
Though she had suggested visiting Xiao Mo several times, bringing her along would only make Xiao Mo feel more distressed, wouldn’t it?
Rather than making things worse, it seemed better not to go.
But now, faced with her question, he was at a loss for how to respond.
Noticing his silence, Qiao Mo spoke again, "Can you come over this afternoon? It won’t take too much of your time."
"Okay."
The way she asked, he simply couldn’t refuse.
Moreover, he wanted to see her, to see how she was doing.
"Alright, two in the afternoon, I’ll wait for you." After hanging up, Qiao Mo sent over her address.
Qiao Yun said gently, "How is sister’s condition? Is there any improvement? Does she want us to visit her?"
"Yes," Fu Nancheng responded indifferently, continuing to drive.
Yet, every time he thought of their lost child, his heart felt empty. Ever since the accident, he hadn’t seen Xiao Mo, almost as if their child still existed, unable to believe that their child was gone.
