Chapter 678 - 688 Wedding (16)

Strangely enough, she was unusually calm. She slowly removed her veil, took off the meticulously designed white dress, removed the necklace from her neck, and wiped off her makeup.

She looked at herself in the mirror, lost in thought, her mind completely blank.

She stared at the mirror for a long time before finally taking a shower, changing into a comfortable set of pajamas, and then, just like every other day, curled up on the sofa watching TV.

Nanny Wang seemed to have heard about today’s events as well, hesitated for a long time, then gently knocked on the door.

Qiao Mo turned her head to look at her without saying a word.

Nanny Wang, whose hair was a bit grey, walked forward and gently placed a beautifully arranged fruit platter and a steaming cup of milk on the coffee table, saying softly, "Have some, and rest early."

Qiao Mo showed her a smile and nodded lightly.

Nanny Wang, looking at her demeanor, appeared a bit uneasy.

With a gentle sigh, she eventually shook her head, closed the door, and turned to leave.

Qiao Mo still didn’t move; she didn’t even know what she was thinking.

Perhaps she recalled his unease last night... or maybe his expression when he kissed her in the car today...

Having gotten up early and waited the whole day, she thought she would be very tired and would fall asleep early.

But the reality was the exact opposite; not only wasn’t she sleepy, but she also felt astonishingly awake.

Until one o’clock, when the midnight clock chimed.

Qiao Mo gazed blankly at the commercials on TV, wondering, why did he like watching commercials so much?

Clearly, they’re so boring... why could he watch them so attentively?

What did he love about her? Was the person he loved really her?

The dimly lit room was illuminated only by a warm orange lamp that wasn’t too glaring, yet somehow, in his absence, made her feel the room was somewhat cold.

Soon, the sound of footsteps was heard.

Fu Nancheng gently pushed open the bedroom door, and as he looked up, his eyes met hers, full of pain.

Qiao Mo looked at him in a daze, not expecting him to suddenly return at this time.

She instinctively sat up straight, causing the blanket on her lap to fall to the floor.

Neither of them moved, silently gazing at each other.

Only after a few minutes did Qiao Mo softly speak, "You’re... back."

"Hmm." Fu Nancheng walked in, turned around to close the door, hung up his suit jacket, and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt.

Qiao Mo watched him perform this series of actions, graceful and skilled.

Noticing her gaze, he looked at her and said, "You should sleep; I’m going to take a shower."

With that, he picked up his pajamas and turned away.

Qiao Mo’s gaze felt somewhat bittersweet, blinking softly twice, she sat quietly on the sofa without making a sound.

It wasn’t until he entered the bathroom that Qiao Mo withdrew her gaze, slowly made her way to the bed, following his words.

Qiao Mo didn’t sleep immediately; she leaned against the headboard, casually flipping through a magazine, but didn’t take in a single page.

Half an hour later, Fu Nancheng came out.

Seeing she was still awake, he fell silent.

The room was filled with an eerie silence; neither of them spoke.

After tidying up for a while, he spoke to her softly, "Go to sleep."

Qiao Mo nodded and lay down quietly, turning her back to him.

But only she knew how disappointed she felt.

She thought that when he returned, at least she could get an explanation, at least a reason.

Unfortunately, there was nothing at all.

Once the lights were completely turned off, only darkness remained in the room.
