Chapter 700: Hitting Her with Rotten Eggs
Chapter 700: Hitting Her with Rotten Eggs
On the day of discharge, Nora Northwood was awoken by the sunlight streaming in through the window.
When Jasper Sinclair returned from outside, he found her stretching lazily.
With the window behind her, the morning sunlight cast a golden glow over her silhouette.
She asked, "Hubby, where did you go?"
Jasper, clearly pleased with the term of endearment, raised his arm, holding two food containers.
"Uncle Kevin sent your breakfast over. After you finish eating, we’ll go for a check-up. If everything’s fine, we’ll head home."
"Alright."
Compared to their peaceful time together, Rachel Woodward’s situation was much less favorable.
She dragged her battered body, dealing with the mess left by the Woodward Family.
After all, everything started because of her.
She rarely lowered her pride and went to seek help from Liam Jacobs, treating him politely for the first time despite his long-standing admiration for her.
Over the phone, Liam agreed to take her to Woodward Enterprises.
They arranged a meeting time and place, which was at a small inn by the street.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Rachel didn’t dare to look directly at the person beside her.
"What’s your plan going forward?" Liam asked her.
"No plan, just take it one step at a time."
When they reached Woodward Enterprises, they were met with a commotion outside the car window; the company was surrounded.
Rachel frowned, reaching to open the car door. Her right foot barely touched the ground when she heard a middle-aged woman shout.
"Rachel Woodward is here! It’s her!"
Soon, more people rushed towards the vehicle.
"Seduced my husband, you shameless woman!"
"Pay us the overdue wages! It’s your fault the Woodward Family went bankrupt, causing the people suffering along with you."
"Hit her, don’t let her escape."
The middle-aged woman, who spoke first, threw an egg at Rachel from who-knows-where. It landed with a splat.
The shell shattered, and the foul smell ran down her hair, the egg white and yolk smeared into her eyes.
"Ah—"
Rachel let out a scream, but the noise around her swallowed it up. Once a pampered daughter, she had now become a public target.
Fortunately, Liam’s quick reaction saved her as he pulled her back inside the car, locking both the door and windows.
"What’s going on? Are they all from your company?"
"I don’t know."
Rachel’s mind was in turmoil; she didn’t show up at the company much, so she couldn’t recognize all the employees.
But she did recognize the ringleader.
That woman was the wife of the Woodward Family’s chauffeur, the very driver who assaulted her days before.
The crowd didn’t relent just because they hid inside; they completely surrounded the road, blocking it from any movement, and Liam couldn’t move the car forward or back.
The driver’s wife continued to incite the crowd, various objects striking the car windows.
At this moment, Rachel wished desperately to disappear from this world; she was at a loss about how to handle such unexpected situations.
It was the person in the driver’s seat who wiped the sticky egg liquid off her face and called the police.
Not far away, a girl in a floral dress chuckled softly, "Rachel Woodward brought this on herself; those who help her deserve to suffer too."
Lily Sloan hadn’t forgotten the incident a year ago when Nora Northwood was pushed into the sea by Liam Jacobs.
Standing next to her was Louis Hayes, both wearing identical expressions of mockery and indifference.
