Chapter 603: Arrival in Paris
Chapter 603: Arrival in Paris
Lily and her companions have landed. It’s still winter in Paris in March, with temperatures only at ten degrees. When they arrived, a light rain was falling, wetting the cabin windows.
They picked up several suitcases from the ground crew and braved the wind and rain to head out.
Led by Megan Underwood, they boarded the shuttle bus, gliding forward through the drizzle, while the black windshield wipers were steadily waving.
Fortunately, the ample heating inside the bus allowed everyone to ignore the cold chill of Paris.
The bus arrived at its destination, the door silently opened, and a gust of cold wind rushed in, dispersing the heating and making everyone shiver.
Lily’s face looked somewhat pale, as a gust of wind blew, making her unsteady on her feet.
The closest person to her, Finnian Lawrence, glanced at her from the corner of his eye; she was almost merging with the wind and frost.
After a moment of thought, he reminded, "The ground is slippery with water, watch your step."
Lily nodded to Finnian, too cold to speak.
Her eyes were wide open, and her neck was tucked into her camel-colored sweater, resembling a round little bundle, tempting to touch.
Interestingly, Finnian’s original departure date was yesterday afternoon.
Due to delays caused by matters at Serendipity Pavilion, he had to change his flight to midday today, unexpectedly seating next to the VK group.
Perhaps, it was fate deliberately connecting them.
After leaving the airport, Lily was taken away by Finnian, while the others hailed a taxi by the roadside, perfectly filling one cab.
...
"Turn the heat up a bit." Finnian instructed the driver in French.
Lily huddled, showing no intention of speaking. A few tiny droplets glistened atop her hair.
After a while, she finally gathered herself.
"Thank you for bringing me. Earlier, it was so cold I couldn’t speak."
"Are you feeling better now?"
Finnian looked at her, and for a moment, he wanted to hug her, but he restrained himself.
It would be inappropriate.
Lily’s face remained pale, an unhealthy shade of white.
Yet, the temperature inside the carriage was undeniably high.
Finnian took off his scarf and wrapped it around her, "Once at the hotel, take a cold medicine; remember to check the weather next time before traveling."
"I did check the weather, didn’t think ten degrees in Paris would feel different from ten degrees in Stanton City."
One is a physical attack and the other a chemical attack.
"How long will your team stay in Paris?"
"Tentatively a week, not sure if there’ll be any changes."
Along the way, the rain intensified.
Lily belatedly took out her phone and switched off airplane mode, with several messages flooding in.
At the top was Jason Sloan’s avatar, asking if she had landed.
She replied to each message, planning to finish the exhibition’s matters before visiting her brother.
Jason Sloan studies at Paris Business School, deeply immersed in economics, expected to return by the end of the year to join The Sloan Group.
While Lily was responding to messages, Finnian canceled the hotel reservations and confirmed accommodation at another hotel.
On the phone, he conversed in French, presuming those beside him couldn’t understand.
Until the very moment before getting off, Lily remarked, "Why are you changing hotels?"
Finnian’s expression briefly stiffened but quickly found a reasonable explanation: "The rain outside is heavy; it’s better to find a place to settle down sooner."
