Chapter 595: Smoggy Weather
Chapter 595: Smoggy Weather
At the end of February, Stanton City was engulfed by a fog so severe that the meteorological bureau issued an orange alert.
The day before, a notice was sent out: all primary and secondary schools in the city would be closed, and some companies would halt work.
That day after work, it was rare for Jasper Sinclair to pick up Nora Northwood.
Both of them were workaholics, and when they got busy, the only time left was to sleep together.
Upon learning that he had come, Nora hurriedly rushed down from the forty-third floor, even forgetting to arrange her work for the next day.
The man, dressed in a suit with a coat over it, stood tall beside the car.
Nora came out from the VK building, ran all the way to his side, and asked with concern, "It’s so cold outside, why didn’t you wait inside for me?"
"I wanted to see your first reaction when you saw me."
Her nose, blown red by the cold, was amused by Jasper’s reply. Gazing into his distinctly contrasting eyes, she asked back, "Is this reaction satisfactory?"
"It’s satisfactory, but you could express more joy next time."
"Director Sinclair speaks wisely indeed."
"Get in the car."
Jasper opened the passenger door, gently shielding Nora’s head with his hand, showing utmost gentlemanly demeanor.
Actually, he had just wanted to give her a little kiss.
Today there was no driver; Jasper was driving himself.
Worried about the road conditions affected by the fog, he asked Louis Hayes to get off work early.
Louis felt rather honored when leaving The Sinclair Group.
Once in the car, Jasper started the engine and asked Nora, "Tomorrow the fog will be even worse, should we rest at home for a day?"
Upon hearing this, Nora slapped her forehead. She had forgotten to notify everyone about stopping work!
"Take a rest; we’ll give everyone a day off tomorrow. I’ll call Yvonne Winslow now."
Jasper found her muddle-headedness utterly adorable.
As the saying goes: beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
With a slight smirk, he turned the steering wheel and drove away.
In a hurry, Nora rummaged through her tote bag for her phone, catching everyone right before they clocked out to deliver the message to Yvonne.
Recognizing the intense workload of VK members, Nora decided on the spot to offer a paid day off due to the bad weather, as a token of appreciation for everyone’s recent efforts.
Little did she know, this move would lead to uncontrollable disaster for her.
Andrea Miller decided to switch jobs.
Nora received the resignation notice the next day. She was with Jasper, snugly tucked away in a private cinema, enjoying rare time alone together—something they hadn’t done for deep heart-to-heart exchanges in quite a while.
Nora was immersed in the film’s story, and while absorbed, she marveled at how fog and movies made an excellent combination.
Rather than immediately agreeing to Andrea’s resignation, she called back, inquiring about what had happened and what reasons led her to think of resigning.
Nora believed she had treated this young girl well.
Andrea stammered, unwilling to reveal the truth, merely saying it was her own issue, which Nora certainly wouldn’t agree to without clarity.
At the very least, she needed to understand what was going on.
She said on the call, "A resignation request needs to be submitted one month in advance, and proper handover procedures must be completed."
"I don’t have any major tasks on hand, so I’ll hand over things to Manager Underwood as soon as possible, hopefully without extending the timeline."
The young girl had just graduated when she joined VK and had little workplace experience, thinking that there was room for negotiation on this matter, trying to bargain with Nora.
"I need to discuss this with Manager Underwood. Return to normal work the day after tomorrow, and I’ll have the secretary general notify you to meet at the president’s office for a face-to-face talk."
