Flash Marriage: She becomes Mrs. CEO after the Failed Dowry Talk

Chapter 585: Welcoming the New Year

Chapter 585: Welcoming the New Year

"You all are paired up, don’t gang up on a single young adult like me!"

Shane held a deck of cards in front of him, shielding it carefully, afraid others would know he had a good hand.

Lily Sloan played a card and picked up the thread of conversation: "Shane, if next year’s cream series sells like crazy, I’ll introduce you to some pretty girls."

"Are you secretly in love with me?"

"Nonsense!"

Finnian Lawrence casually played a pair of jokers, Jasper Sinclair and Nora Northwood exchanged a glance, there was definitely something fishy!

...

The heating indoors might be too high; Nora felt suffocated, muddling through a few rounds. All the chips in her pocket ended up with Jasper.

Of course, she wasn’t the only one.

Rhys Linden loudly chimed in, "Jasper, even if you’re not giving us a break, at least show some mercy to your wife!"

"I’m in charge of the money at home."

As soon as Jasper finished speaking, there was a murmur of "tsk tsk" from the crowd.

Indifferent to everyone, he tousled Nora’s hair, "I’ve got a surprise for you later."

Upon hearing this, Nora felt all the suffocation in her chest dissipate, "I’ll look forward to it then."

Jasper noticed her unusual flush, "Are you feeling hot?"

"A little."

The attentive waiter immediate opened a nearby window a crack for Nora.

The cool breeze that blew in cleared everyone’s mind a little.

They had been around the card table for about an hour when Lily first threw in the towel, "All the money has gone to Director Sinclair, truly those with a business mind win money!"

Rhys followed suit, crossing his legs and placing his hands behind his head, looking nonchalant, "Not playing anymore, it’s almost midnight."

Thus, the card game broke up.

Then, Rhys instructed the waiting waiter to serve white wine and champagne in preparation for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration.

The second hand ticked away, as it was almost midnight, Rhys began to search for something.

He suddenly shouted, "Did anyone take the remote for the balcony?"

"It’s here!" said two kids at the next table, raising their arms; they’d taken it to play spinning games.

Lily and Nora headed to the restroom to touch up their makeup, with Lily repeatedly asking, "Nora, is my hairstyle okay? Is there noticeable powder cakiness on my nose?"

"No, it’s perfect, definitely Finnian’s type!" Nora teased.

In fact, Lily had a premonition that something might happen between her and Finnian tonight.

The reflection in the mirror showed her with wavy locks, gentle brows and eyes, a blend of vintage and artistic styles.

Just after they left after touching up, another maturely dressed woman emerged from a stall.

The woman’s expression was gloomy as she typed on her phone, leaving a message: "Is your fiancé Finnian Lawrence?"

Their circle wasn’t too big or too small, but it was always these people.

Lily encountered Finnian in the corridor, a cigarette between his lips, resembling a literary male lead from a modern drama.

Nora discreetly slipped away, leaving them alone; she too was curious about what ripples might arise between them.

The sound of footsteps gradually faded away.

In the dim setting, a certain unspoken ambiguity surged, until finally, Lily broke the silence, "I didn’t know you smoked."

The swirling smoke slowly dispersed with the direction of the exhaust fan.
