Chapter 583: They Are in Cahoots
Chapter 583: They Are in Cahoots
"Can you cook?"
"It’s a basic skill for a butler. Normally, I manage the entire estate for the master, so I haven’t done it much."
Elaine’s calm eyes watched Nora Northwood’s departing figure for a long time before she gathered her thoughts and looked away.
"Have things been taken care of?"
Jasper Sinclair carefully chewed over her words, stayed silent for a while, then gave a muffled "Hmm," "Many clues point to the third family’s couple. At first, I didn’t want to believe it. Later, Peach Bell said that before they passed away, the third family had visited many times."
Bringing up a sad topic again, his expression wasn’t pleasant.
Elaine gently shook her head, "What’s in the past is in the past. Let it go. Evil will receive its due punishment. As the Sinclair family’s eldest son, you have more important things to do."
A servant on the side brewed a pot of tea and stepped back a few meters, waiting to be summoned.
After drinking several cups, Jasper Sinclair planned to be consistent with Elaine: "I don’t want to hide anything from Nora, so I’ll tell her the truth."
"Alright, it seems you have a deeper understanding and attitude towards feelings now."
After the two finished talking, the butler mentioned that Nora Northwood was resting upstairs and had fallen asleep again.
"I’ll take you to her room. She’ll probably want to see you when she wakes up."
Elaine, having lived abroad for many years, had an open mind. Moreover, she was the only lady of the house, so she didn’t have to be overly cautious about everything.
When Jasper Sinclair entered the room, he found Nora Northwood lying on a chaise lounge. He walked quietly, afraid to wake her from her sleep.
Elaine closed the door for them. Before leaving, she glanced back at them through the crack one more time.
In her eyes, it’s been no easy feat for these two kids to reach this point today.
...
When Nora Northwood opened her eyes, she had already missed dinner. Jasper Sinclair had stayed by her side all along, quietly sitting there for three whole hours.
"Did I do something wrong again?"
Her voice carried a hint of grievance, and her expression was slightly crumpled.
"It’s okay, I’ve already informed Grandma, you can sleep a bit more."
Recently, she had been so busy with work that she was really sleep-deprived.
"No more sleeping. Did you smoke?"
Nora’s sense of smell was even sharper than a puppy’s nose. Despite Jasper having taken off his coat, she still caught a faint scent of tobacco.
"Yes, I was thinking about some things."
She remembered that the man had already quit smoking and quickly realized why he might have started again.
Those unpleasant memories, tacitly agreed upon by both of them, weren’t mentioned again.
Nora then changed the subject and said, "I’ll call Grandma to apologize."
"No need to apologize. You can have a chat with her; the old lady misses you, a treatment even I haven’t received."
Afterward, Nora spoke with Grandma Sinclair on the phone, first expressing her deep apologies for missing New Year’s Day, and secondly indicating that she and Jasper Sinclair had reconciled and there was no lingering discord between them.
The old lady was very happy to hear this and casually asked about the media’s rampant reports: "Is what they say about you and Elaine true?"
"Yes."
"Wonderful! That’s wonderful! Our Nora has a motherly figure who loves her now!"
Grandma Sinclair’s reaction was even more exaggerated than those involved, showing that she was genuinely happy for Nora Northwood from the bottom of her heart.
"Let’s have a meal together sometime. Mom has many words of thanks she wants to say to you."
