Chapter 566: I’ll Take You Home
Chapter 566: I’ll Take You Home
Jasper Sinclair glanced at her exposed collarbone and said jealously, "That dress doesn’t look good."
"You’re just lacking taste."
Nora Northwood pouted; her dress was the new Diro fall collection.
"If I lacked taste, would I have married you?"
"Grandma Sinclair forced you!"
As she finished speaking, she was suddenly turned around, her lower back pressed against the car door.
"What are you doing!" Nora exclaimed.
Accompanied by the sound of a vehicle speeding past, they regained their senses to find Jasper Sinclair’s pants splattered with mud, while the offending car had long driven away.
Nora came to realize he was protecting her, and reluctantly muttered a thank you: "Thank you."
"Nora, that’s not how you thank someone."
"I’ll compensate you with a new piece of clothing."
"Clothes can be replaced, but how do you account for feelings?"
As he spoke, Jasper Sinclair continuously watched her, attempting to discern any emotion from her expression.
Obviously, he failed.
Nora calmly averted her gaze, avoiding eye contact with the man, "We don’t have any feelings."
It was not hard to hear the faint mockery in her tone.
The minor episode over, Jasper Sinclair smoothly drove her back to the mansion.
"Without checking the navigation, make sure you don’t drop me at the wrong place."
"Not everyone lacks a sense of direction like you do."
Jasper Sinclair didn’t mention how many times he had driven this route, or how many restless nights he’d parked on the opposite street.
"How’s the injury on your hand?"
The man holding the steering wheel raised a brow, surprised that Nora remembered.
"So you do remember I got hurt."
"You have plenty of people to take care of you; whether I remember or not doesn’t matter."
The tone shifted, signaling a prelude to an argument.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, Jasper Sinclair chose to stay silent, but his quietness translated differently in Nora’s eyes.
He tacitly agreed.
Upon arrival, Nora got out of the car, not even bothering with a "thank you," and stomped away angrily.
A "slam" echoed behind her as she failed to control the force of shutting the door. After taking a step, she felt her behavior was improper.
Yet, what’s done is done.
The next day.
Elaine privately contacted Nora, inviting her to a golden wedding party.
"It’s Mr. and Mrs. Winslow’s 30th wedding anniversary. You can go to make some acquaintances. This party is more about entertainment, and the guests invited are mostly influential but not directly involved in business."
Nora caught the hint and readily agreed.
Meanwhile, they received another piece of news: Mr. Winslow would announce the next heir tonight.
Nora was faintly excited, wondering if she could meet the Warren Family heir in advance.
Allegedly, this person had been residing in the Hong Kong and Macau regions and had only recently returned to the mainland. Few had seen him, and his or her gender was even uncertain.
However, everyone naturally assumed it would be a male.
On the eve of the party, Nora discreetly probed into the industries the Warren Family was involved in.
The results were consistent: cash flow.
Holding the lifeline of major banks, just as Elaine said, it’s worth making friends.
She began to anticipate the turning of gears. After VK’s listing next year, there would be a continuous development of new products, requiring a large amount of capital, inevitably leading to bank loans.
