Chapter 559: Murphy’s Law
Chapter 559: Murphy’s Law
"When the negative thing you worry about happens, it will definitely happen."
Murphy’s Law doesn’t deceive us at mealtime.
At night, Jasper Sinclair had a high fever due to his inflamed wound. There was no medication in the room, so Nora Northwood could only use the most primitive physical method to reduce his fever.
Going back and forth, neither could fall asleep.
Jasper Sinclair looked at the person busying herself for him, a faint smile spilling into his breath, dispersing the pain from his body.
"Nora, don’t bother. In a few hours, it’ll be dawn, and there should be a hospital in town."
"What if the hospital isn’t open?"
Nora didn’t realize there was a hint of a sob in her voice. The dim light from the bedside lamp illuminated her expression clearly, showing just how dejected she was.
The storm outside continued, as if the sky in Stanton City had a hole in it.
Jasper Sinclair struggled to lift his hand and pinched her cheek, "I’m not as weak as you think. Even if the hospital isn’t open, we can ask the owner for a couple of fever-reducing pills."
In the later half of the night, Nora stayed awake, afraid to sleep.
Jasper Sinclair was the same, but couldn’t withstand the drowsiness, and fell asleep to her soft coaxing.
Nora stayed up until dawn, went to the innkeeper to get some fever-reducing medicine, and also asked for directions to the hospital.
When she returned to the room, she found that the person in bed had already woken up.
The rain was still falling, but had reduced from a storm to a moderate rain, making it feasible to go out.
Jasper Sinclair saw the pills in her hand and couldn’t help but chuckle. He curled his fingers, beckoning to her, "Nora, help me sit up."
Nora gave him a sideways glance, well aware of his little tricks.
Immediately, she rolled her eyes and refused, "Mr. Sinclair, your injury is in the arm, not the waist or buttocks. You can sit up by yourself!"
"I’m out of strength. Come and help me."
Nora’s body was more honest than her mouth; she went over and supported the back of his neck.
But this man!
Neither his body nor his words were honest!
He pulled on her arm with force, bringing their bodies tightly together.
Through a thin layer of clothing, Nora could feel Jasper Sinclair’s body temperature, slightly lower than last night, estimated to be under thirty-eight degrees.
"Jasper Sinclair! You’re getting more shameless!"
She glared at him with almond-shaped eyes, her cheeks puffed up, a picture of someone being bullied.
"It’s just a face, doesn’t matter if I lose it or not. A wife is way more important."
Jasper Sinclair teased her brazenly, making it seem like he was talking about something serious.
At that moment, Louis Hayes’s voice came from outside the door.
"Director Sinclair, I’ve contacted the city people. They will arrive at the ancient town by nine-thirty."
Upon hearing an outsider’s voice, Nora sprang up from the bed like a high schooler caught in a romance.
Jasper Sinclair frowned, silently cursing: Louis must be fined! He must be fined!
But what he said was different.
"Let everyone know to gather in the lobby ten minutes early."
"Understood."
A minute passed, and footsteps could be heard gradually fading away from the door. Nora, forgetting the injuries on Jasper Sinclair, didn’t even want to pour him water. She just tossed the pills in front of him, angrily saying, "Take the medicine yourself! One pill!"
"Nora, you’re getting more vengeful now, you were cuter before."
"Go find someone who thinks you’re cute!"
