Chapter 547: Fate’s Cruel Games

Chapter 547: Fate’s Cruel Games

Fate delights in playing tricks on people.

As Peach Bell was helping Jasper Sinclair out the door, Nora Northwood had just gotten out of the car and, seeing the scene, quickly ducked back inside.

From her perspective, Jasper was leaning his whole body onto the young girl, in a position that was ambiguously intimate.

A strong unease washed over her, her hands clenching tightly on the steering wheel, and all her myriad thoughts vanished in an instant.

A sharp pain shot through her chest, making Nora feel like a fool for being there.

Quickly, she restrained herself and looked away, restarting the car engine.

The car wheels turned in a different direction, missing the sight of Jasper being assisted by the bar’s staff.

...

The next day.

The sunlight was blinding, like shards of glass scattered all over the ground, forcing the person in bed to open his eyes.

Jasper Sinclair, with a hangover-induced headache, noticed there was someone by the edge of the bed.

"Peach Bell?"

He uncertainly called out her name, surprised to see the little girl there.

Peach Bell groggily opened her eyes, still looking sleepy.

"Brother Jasper, you’re awake?"

Still half-asleep, the little girl’s voice was soft and whiny, as if she were acting spoiled.

Jasper was unmoved, glancing around at the surroundings, his intuition hinting at which hotel it was, and he asked, "Why are you here?"

"Last night, you drank too much. I wanted to take you home, but your friend said it wasn’t safe, so we stayed at this hotel for the night."

Peach Bell knew well that her little schemes couldn’t fool Jasper, so she kept it vague.

Jasper didn’t remember much from last night, so he didn’t dwell on it.

"I’ll have the driver pick you up. Just sit here and don’t wander off." In his eyes, Peach Bell was just an immature child; he and Rhys Linden would never develop other inappropriate thoughts.

Thinking otherwise would be too reprehensible.

Jasper had just called the driver when he received a call from Louis Hayes on the other line.

"What’s up?"

"Elie hasn’t signed the winter project with our cosmetics company, so we might be facing a stronger competitor."

Jasper could sense Louis’s hesitation and told him to continue.

"It’s VK; they intend to merge fragrance and skincare product lines, so Elie can only choose one."

"Contact Elie."

Hanging up, Jasper quickened his pace, leaving the hotel ahead of time.

Peach Bell watched his broad-shouldered, slim-waisted figure and recalled the name he kept murmuring last night... Nora.

The little girl’s desire to replace Nora in his heart grew stronger, and to be honest, she couldn’t discern what kind of feeling it was. She just knew she wanted to stay by Jasper Sinclair’s side.

Among her contacts, a particular person’s name had been silent for a long time—the one who claimed to be her real brother.

For some reason, her feelings toward her real brother were less intense than those she felt for an outsider.

Yet, she needed her brother’s help. After much hesitation, she dialed Liam Jacobs’s number.

The ring lasted for half a minute before the person on the other end picked up.

"Brother, why did you take so long to answer!" Peach Bell playfully complained.

"I didn’t expect you to call me after so long, either," Liam Jacobs replied, sharing the sentiment of discontent.

Then, the two arranged a time and place to meet, near the hotel.

The Sinclair Family’s driver would arrive soon, so she needed to settle things quickly.
