Chapter 479: A More Suitable Person
Chapter 479: A More Suitable Person
The ribbon-cutting ceremony at VK went on until noon before concluding, and Nora Northwood stood at the door, seeing off this group of distinguished guests.
Once the last person had left, the large flat returned to silence, a stark contrast to the previous lively atmosphere.
Facing the few remaining people, she said, "Paid rest in the afternoon. If you want to eat, go to the Cantonese restaurant next door and put it on my tab."
At this point, everyone was exhausted, too tired to speak, and who would still think about freeloading a meal?
Several hands waved in the air, leaving the mess to the professional cleaning team to handle, and everyone went home.
Nora dragged her weary body back to her little villa.
She viciously tore off the expensive pearls from her neck and earlobes and tossed them into her jewelry box.
The gown that had constrained her for so long was also roughly stripped off, replaced by comfortable home attire.
Even though she had been busy for so long, only a few hours had passed when she checked the time.
Nora hesitated for a long time between removing her makeup and catching up on sleep, and in the end, she chose the latter.
She was still young and would spend a few hours every month at the beauty salon for maintenance, remaining impressive even without makeup.
Lily Sloan once jokingly said to her, "It’s a pity not to pose for makeup ads with such a good look!"
When she woke up, it was already six in the evening.
Nora was awakened by the doorbell. She came out of the room barefoot, stood at the entrance, and saw through the screen that it was Jasper Sinclair at her door.
His head was bowed, with visible fatigue in his eyes.
She opened the door but didn’t rush to let him in, asking, "Why are you here?"
Without the barrier, she observed the man more clearly.
Jasper Sinclair’s tie was askew by a few millimeters, and his intricate bow tie was slightly loose, as if he had endured many hardships throughout the day.
Usually distinguished, he seemed unexpectedly approachable.
His gaze lingered on the deep V at Nora’s chest, not stating his purpose, and he domineeringly asked, "Is this how you answer the door?"
Truth be told, Nora’s sleeping posture was quite untidy, the strap had been pulled loose while she slept, and the already loose design had turned into a deep V-neck.
Her face flushed, and she straightened her clothing. "It has nothing to do with you. If you have nothing else, I’ll close the door."
Seemingly worried that she’d actually shut the door on him, Jasper quickly raised his arm to brace against the doorframe. "You forgot your gift."
Nora suddenly remembered that he had prepared a gift for her.
Before she could react, Jasper had already taken out a Jadeite Jade Bracelet from his pocket.
Without a proper jewelry box, anyone could mistake it for something picked up off the street.
He explained, "The box is a bit too big to fit in the pocket, so I had to take it out on its own. I hope you don’t mind."
In recent years, Nora had developed a fondness for jadeite, and with frequent handling, she naturally became adept at appraising them.
The one in Jasper’s hand was obviously valuable and could probably match the worth of the small villa beneath her feet.
She politely declined, "Since we’re no longer together, I have no reason to accept your gift. I’ll accept the sentiment for now and hope this bracelet finds a more suitable owner."
Implying the bracelet as a person, her underlying meaning was: you, too, will meet someone else.
"There is no more suitable person; it has always been you, and it always will be you, Nora." By the end, a subtle hint of pleading emerged in Jasper Sinclair’s tone.
