Chapter 442: A Boring Game
Chapter 442: A Boring Game
When leaving the research institute, it was already dusk.
The summer night’s wind blew fiercely, messing up Nora Northwood’s hair. Her hair nearly reached her waist, and a strand brushed against Jasper Sinclair’s cheek, teasing him with an itchy sensation.
"Seems like you had a good chat with the professor." he said.
"It was quite pleasant, otherwise how would it become your go-to trick?"
The conversation went around in circles, and Nora felt a hint of sarcasm in her heart.
Every time there was an emotional crisis, Jasper Sinclair would skillfully divert her focus. By the time she came to her senses again, the crisis would have quietly dissipated, leaving her feeling like a little beast toyed with in the palm of his hand.
"Nora, everything I do is based on your emotions."
"Sounds noble, befitting your status as the leader of The Sinclair Group."
The evening sun’s dying rays cast a dim and hazy glow over the two of them, unable to melt the ice that separated them.
After pondering for a moment, Nora spoke again, still choosing her words with precision.
"Jasper Sinclair, you have money and wealth, you have supreme power. Just by standing there, countless people would flock to offer you their genuine hearts. The road beneath your feet is smooth and free of pebbles. But I’m different, I have a blood-stained heart, my emotions aren’t a game for your idle amusement."
"But everything I possess doesn’t compare to the value you bring to me. Without your presence, I wouldn’t even experience the true essence of human life." Jasper quickly interjected, fearing to hear any words of severance.
Ultimately, Nora didn’t voice the thoughts buried in her heart.
She calmly shifted her gaze, got in the car, her limbs stiff as if controlled by puppet strings, and went with Jasper to the restaurant.
On the surface, they shared dinner as usual.
During the meal, a server lit an aromatic candle for them, once again allowing Nora to grasp a business opportunity.
The little flame flickered and danced, its soft and warm light finally causing a slight crack in the ice between them.
Jasper asked her, "There’s an agenda tomorrow, expected to end around eight o’clock, might not be able to join you for dinner. Will you eat with friends first, or wait for me to return?"
The man’s tone carried a hint of expectancy.
"We’ll see," Nora replied lightly, not putting much thought into it.
After all, it’s not the first time being left behind.
The dinner ended in a relatively harmonious atmosphere; at least, the two didn’t break into another argument.
The final dessert was avocado-flavored, Nora didn’t try it, and didn’t even pick up the silver spoon.
Afterwards, they returned to the hotel together.
The corridor lighting in the hotel was dim, with a scent of poppy flowers lingering around.
"Didn’t you book a room?" Nora’s question broke the subtle aura between them, and after asking, she felt a bit awkward...
"The luggage has been placed in your room. We’re married; even if there are disagreements, we must coexist."
Nora murmured "Oh," and said, "First time being married, no experience."
"I’ll slowly teach you."
Entering the room, Nora fumbled for the wall’s light switch, stumbling over something unknown at her feet, she staggered backward.
Taking advantage of the light from the corridor, Jasper quickly grabbed her, and conveniently closed the door.
Nora leaned against his chest, while he leaned against the wall, both letting out a muffled grunt.
The person in his arms panicked for a moment but quickly stood upright.
