Chapter 354: She’s Gone
Chapter 354: She’s Gone
Thinking about the sadness, Nora Northwood lowered her head again, her eyelashes casting a small fan-shaped shadow beneath her eyelids, concealing her emotions, and a soft sigh was all that could be heard.
The person closest to her, Uncle Kevin, heard the sound but didn’t know why. Afterwards, he took the initiative to ask, "Madam, I’ve prepared a shawl for you. Do you need to take it into the venue?"
"No need."
Nora was wearing a teal long dress, her hair pinned up with a jade clip. She appeared both crisp and elegant, gentle yet graceful.
The heavy doors were pushed open by two waiters, and she gracefully walked into the main venue.
Inside was spacious and bright. Nora took in the entire scene at a glance, noticing several fashion items more expensive than hers, and couldn’t help but draw a sharp breath.
She marveled at the host’s generosity.
Soon, a murmur of whispers arose behind her.
"Is she the protagonist of the century wedding?"
"The one who made a scene that day was also a young girl. Who would have thought President Sinclair prefers this type."
"The rich have more extravagant tastes."
Nora couldn’t hear clearly; she could only vaguely make out that the subject of their gossip was Jasper Sinclair.
Her facial expression did not change, but her brows furrowed slightly.
The one being talked about was currently in Australia, enjoying a fusion dinner of Celestian and Australian cuisine.
Today’s head chef was brought over from a Chinese restaurant, whom Oliver specially borrowed for a day to entertain Jasper Sinclair.
"We have prepared seven dishes. The hot appetizer is cherry sautéed shredded meat, a very unique flavor, and the soup is matsutake chicken soup, more suited to the Vermilion palate."
...
In reality, Jasper Sinclair didn’t care much for Oliver’s special arrangements. After all, no matter how much one tried, overseas restaurants could never replicate the authentic Chinese taste.
He crossed his legs, his back relaxed, always maintaining a one-centimeter gap from the back of the chair. After briefly glancing at the menu, he nodded to signal they could begin.
"Director Sinclair, there’s a saying in Celestia that goes, ’open the window to say things clearly.’ Is that how it’s said?"
Jasper looked up, his breath gentle: "Indeed it is."
He had already anticipated the other’s intentions, essentially wanting to utilize The Sinclair Group’s research team.
Oliver then spoke directly: "Government departments can provide convenient services for The Sinclair Group. We hope to collaborate with The Sinclair Group’s team on biomedical research."
"It’s flattering that the government holds The Sinclair Group in such high regard. Most of my team is Celestian; why doesn’t the Australian government choose to use its own people?"
Jasper smiled knowingly but didn’t directly agree.
His attitude and demeanor made him hard to read, including his words, possibly due to his inherited upper-class culture, which always kept him at a distance.
"To be honest with you, there isn’t a single team in the whole of Melbourne that combines both technical skill and competence. We’re also training new talent, but the times don’t allow us much time, and we hope you can give it to us, Director Sinclair."
There’s nothing money and power cannot buy, including time.
The world of the wealthy is indeed plain and unadorned.
During the conversation, Louis Hayes hurriedly approached. To be honest, this behavior was not very polite, but the situation was urgent, and he had no other choice.
"The hotel’s manager sent word that Peach Bell is missing, and they are sending people to check the surveillance."
Jasper felt slightly bothered, not knowing where that lively, mischievous girl had run off to again.
