Chapter 255 - 172: An Identical Mi Yin and Her Child

"SCREEEE—"

A flock of eagles circled high in the sky, their cries piercing the clouds.

Their sharp Eagle Eyes vigilantly scanned the ground thousands of meters below; not the slightest movement could escape their gaze.

As natural predators with a mutual animosity, Song Yi and several other Eagle Beasts quickly discovered a giant python trying its best to conceal its aura. Down on the ground, Ling Hong, who was leading the group forward, heard the commotion from the sky and was instantly on alert.

He quietly moved An Jin behind him, his thin lips pressed into a firm line as he continued across the marsh without a word.

In the vast marsh, monstrous waves suddenly churned up from below. The crocodiles that had been watching from a distance suddenly went berserk and charged, snapping their jaws madly as they attacked.

The Beastmen, who had been crossing the marsh steadily, were thrown into chaos in an instant.

They had to fight off the frenzied crocodile swarm while also watching out for the ground beneath their feet suddenly giving way. The Beastmen were completely suppressed, unable to use their full strength, and were steadily pushed back.

"Get her and the cargo out of here first!"

Ling Hong roared at the Eagle Beasts in the sky.

"Yes, sir!"

Dozens of Eagle Beasts instantly dove down, but unexpectedly, the crocodiles also leaped out of the marsh, their massive jaws opening wide to bite an Eagle Beast’s head.

The long, pointed jaws were still opened at a grotesque ninety-degree angle, rushing straight up, when a phantom blade sliced the crocodile’s head clean off.

The crocodile’s head slammed down into the mire, splattering countless specks of mud.

"Everyone, stay calm! Find solid ground! Eagle Beasts, take the Beastmen away in groups!" An Jin wiped the blood and mud from her face. She crouched slightly and was just about to reach for a descending Eagle Beast when a familiar black and red serpentine shadow flashed before her eyes.

The aura, so familiar it felt etched into the depths of her body and soul, made An Jin freeze for a moment, and her movements slowed by a beat.

In that split second, the python moved so fast it was just a blur, and she was snatched into the Snake Beast’s arms.

The thick scent of blood assaulted her nostrils. The cold chest pressed against her back felt like a phantom, and the smell of blood made An Jin want to retch even more.

’No, it’s not Gu Yin,’ she thought. The terrifying force of the hand clamped around her neck... he would never do this to her.

The Snake Beast’s familiar appearance and aura also made Ling Hong, not far away, freeze. His body went stiff and cold, as if he had been instantly transported back several years.

—To the battle when they had fought over a female for the first time.

A thousand thoughts flashed through his mind, but in reality, only a second had passed. Ling Hong sensed something was wrong and shifted into his beast form to lunge forward, only to be swatted away by the snake’s tail and sent crashing to the ground.

"HSSSSS~"

’An Eighth Rank Snake Beast?!’

High above, Song Yi’s pupils contracted. His wings, shimmering with golden light, flashed as he dove toward the Snake Beast.

Although he was its natural counter, the defense and combat power of an Eighth Rank Snake Beast were terrifying to the extreme. He was completely unable to snatch the female away from the Snake Beast’s tight, one-handed grip.

Countless crocodiles swarmed in from all directions, their numbers growing like an erupting beast tide, blocking the Beastmen’s line of sight.

By the time Ling Hong and the others finished off the crocodiles, An Jin and the Snake Beast were long gone.

"He wants to keep the female for himself?"

Song Yi couldn’t comprehend what had just happened.

"No, that wasn’t Gu Yin! That Snake Beast looked and had almost the exact same aura as him, but he didn’t have a mate mark on his chest!"

Ling Hong’s expression was extremely grim. Veins bulged on his tightly clenched fists, and his whole body was trembling slightly.

Even if the two snakes’ auras were identical, and even their human forms were nearly the same, the mate mark—or lack thereof—on his chest proved they were not the same snake.

...

The jungle blurred past her as she was carried away. A large, cold hand was clamped tightly over her mouth and nose, preventing even the slightest sound from escaping.

The black and red python moved through the marsh as if it were solid ground. After many twists and turns and crossing several mountains, it arrived at a hidden cave.

Along the way, they encountered many Crocodile Beastmen and other Wandering Beastmen.

They all stared at the Snake Beast with fear, their legs trembling as they backed away. "...Gu Yin, y-you, why are you back? Didn’t you go to live in the tribe?"

The black-haired, red-eyed man looked at them coldly. "Gu Yin?"

’So that’s my twin brother’s name?’ he thought. ’Looks like I didn’t take a wrong turn. This must be the place where that Snake Beast was born.’

’Those crocodiles helping me earlier was unexpected. It seems that was also because of my dear brother.’
