Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna

Chapter 190: A Fated Mate

Chapter 190: A Fated Mate

Having delivered his warning, Sebastian stepped back and then, without so much as glancing at anyone gathered in the hallway, he walked toward his wife and bent down in front of her, growling simply, "Get on."

Viola looked visibly taken aback, and she glanced around at the watching crowd before looking back down at the mighty silver wolf crouched in front of her, waiting with an expectant patience that somehow managed to be more commanding than any order. She had never ridden on a wolf’s back before, only mates were permitted to sit on a wolf’s back, and even then it wasn’t something done lightly.

Matt, who had shifted back to his human form and wrapped himself in one of the emergency blankets kept in the corners of every floor throughout the building, wanted to bury his face in his hands.

Sebastian’s wolf form had completely blocked off their mind link, and now here he was in front of a growing crowd of guests and pack members, openly offering Viola a ride on his back. This was bad. This was very, very bad.

He watched as Viola hesitated for just a moment before she climbed on, gripping the thick silver fur in both hands, and in no time at all the Alpha had left the scene entirely, disappearing through the wide stairway built with enough space to accommodate any wolf form in the pack.

Everyone left behind stared after them with their mouths open. The Alpha had just carried a woman on a back that was reserved for a fated mate. What right did she have to ride on his back when she wasn’t his fated mate and was nothing but a wolfless Luna he had married because she won a competition? It would have been slightly more understandable had she marked him in return, but she hadn’t. She carried no mark on him.

Werewolf males did not carry just anyone on their backs. It was one of the most intimate and significant gestures in their world, so serious and so personal that without mutual marks between two people, a female wouldn’t even be permitted to get close enough to smell a male wolf’s fur, let alone ride on his back.

Just what was the meaning of that?

Camila recovered from the shock of it and turned her eyes to her son, who had shifted back to his human form and was being covered by a blanket.

"Zoe, did you just see what I saw?" Nick nudged his cousin, but before Zoe could respond, as she was the only one aware that Vee was her brother’s mate, his mother had already grabbed his arm and shoved him forward to help his older brother up.

Nick reached out to help Javier to his feet, but the moment Javier was standing, he shoved his brother away from him. "Get away from me, you useless piece of shit!"

"Don’t test my patience, Javier." Camila said coldly in warning. "Let him help you to the room. Go ahead, Nick." She turned to Sofia. "And you, come with us." Sofia gave a small, quick nod and fell into step behind them obediently, like a lost puppy following the person who held its leash.

Zoe stood watching as they went, her brother had left with Vee, Nick had gone with the family, and now she was standing in a hallway full of shocked, whispering guests with no one left to answer her questions except Matt, who was standing a few feet away clutching a blanket around himself and staring into the middle distance, already mentally drafting the conversation he was going to have to have with Sebastian and clean up the mess that had been created.

"What started the fight?" She asked, walking toward him, but Matt stepped back, wiping the blood from the corner of his lips with the back of his hand and looking thoroughly disinterested as he replied, "I have absolutely no idea. Go and ask your brother."

He wasn’t in the mood to deal with Seb’s sister right now, the two of them had never really gotten along all that well to begin with, mostly because he genuinely thought everyone spoiled her far too much, including his own mother. Though he himself had been guilty of spoiling her alongside Sebastian when she was still just a baby, that was then and this was now, and right now he had absolutely no patience for explanations for the baby sister.

He needed a clear head to think of a way out of this before the matter got worsened than it was. He hoped the guests hadn’t already put things together and found out the truth about their Luna already.

Zoe rolled her eyes. "I wouldn’t be asking you if my brother were here, would I? Why do you have bruises all over you, did you get knocked into a wall? Tell me what happened." She glared at him when he simply ignored her, and just like that, without a single word in response, Matt walked right past her to go and get dressed and find Sebastian.

"Aunty Daniella will hear about this! I am going to tell her you are bullying me again!" Zoe called after him with a huff, referring to his mother.

Matt didn’t slow his pace in the slightest. "Go ahead. Mami is out of town that’s why she didn’t come to the wedding, she has gone to visit her sick sister. If you want to know what happened, go and ask your friend."

Vee? Zoe thought, stopping in place. Was it because she had helped Sofia? Oh no. Her brother was going to be furious, he had told Zoe himself the very first day Viola arrived to make sure she didn’t go anywhere near his cousin or anything connected to him.

And though Zoe couldn’t have stopped Viola from helping the sick Sofia that morning, even if she had tried, and she herself had once attempted to help Sofia, only to quickly discover that the woman was a lost cause who saw no wrong in the husband who was destroying her, she had never imagined that Vee’s help for Sofia would extend far enough to bring Javier directly into it and cause a fight between her brother and her psycho cousin!

Zoe bit down on her nails and hurried off to find her brother before he had the chance to say something that would upset her friend. An angry Sebastian was not a pleasant thing to be anywhere near.

Inside one of the building’s private guest rooms, Camila paced back and forth with the tight, coiled energy of a woman so furious she could barely contain it, the veins along her neck visibly pulsing as she waited for her sons and Sofia to come in.

She had walked ahead of all of them to get there first, needing the space before she said or did something in front of witnesses.

The moment they all filed through the door, she didn’t waste a single second, she crossed the room and slapped Sofia so hard across the face that she went straight down to the floor, pressing her hand to her cheek and biting down on her tongue to keep from crying out.

"Mamita!" Javier groaned, and before the word had fully left his own mouth, his mother’s hand connected with his face as well.

"Both of you are completely useless!" Camila barked. "You couldn’t manage something as simple as keeping your senseless wife under control, and she goes and causes trouble for us at the worst possible moment, right when our plan to have the Luna on our side was actually going smoothly!"

"That wolfless bitch is now my enemy, Mamita. She will—" Javier began, rubbing the cheek his mother had just slapped, when her sharp eyes cut into him and shut him up mid-sentence. Then he belatedly noticed that his useless brother was still standing in the room with them, and he turned on him.

"What are you still standing here for? Haven’t you made it more than clear to this family that you will side with our enemies and want nothing to do with us? Get out!"
