Chapter 23 : Rank C and Belgona the Tyrant Dragon

Chapter 23 : Rank C and Belgona the Tyrant Dragon

Becoming an official citizen of the Sector Alliance meant not only that I could open an Interstellar Financial Account, but also that I could purchase land and buildings.

So I bought a small warehouse on the outskirts of the Elevator District. I'd actually wanted to rent, but apparently rentals didn't allow you to work freely inside the warehouse.

I moved the Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator, the Luon Drive, and the Maintenance Robots into that warehouse. I restarted the Maintenance Robots and resumed the interrupted repairs on the Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator.

The reason I hadn't been able to repair the Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator until now was that I'd been missing parts and equipment necessary for the repairs. But after purchasing the warehouse, I bought or rented the parts and equipment I needed and repaired the Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator perfectly.

「So this is 600 billion Credits.」

The Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator was about the size of a commercial four-door refrigerator you'd find in a restaurant kitchen, only slightly larger, with a complex internal structure. I had no idea how the mechanism worked, but according to the Maintenance Robots' report, it was perfectly repaired.

I couldn't actually use it without having an expert check it, but for now I stored the Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator and Luon Drive inside my Isō Pendant.

Since I could now reliably take down Frenzy Kongs, I moved my hunting ground back to the Black Forest Belva. My target was the Tyrant Dragon Belgona. I was thinking I'd take down four more Tyrant Dragon Belgonas and get promoted to Rank C.

Incidentally, there were apparently quite a few Rank C Toryū Ryōheis. Toryū Ryōhei ranks existed from G to S. However, there were rumors - unofficial ones - of SS and SSS ranks as well.

Up to Rank C, many people could get promoted if they spent time and put in effort. But promotion from Rank C to Rank B apparently became dramatically harder.

And once you reached Rank D, you were evaluated as 「competent,」 and when you climbed one more rank to Rank C, you'd go out into space and start hunting space monsters.

The reason I'd been able to reach Rank D in such a short time was thanks to the High-Dimensional Access Method Zorofiēnu had given me. Since I could easily obtain Bosoru particles and Tenshiryoku, my mastery of Tactical Magic Techniques progressed abnormally fast.

The day I started hunting Tyrant Dragon Belgonas, I was flying over the Black Forest Belva on my Hover Bike. Of course, I had a license, so I wasn't riding without a license.

The trees of Belva illuminated by the sun looked black, probably because they didn't reflect much light. As I flew slowly over those trees, I saw a massive reddish-bronze creature move through gaps in the leaves that spread to cover the ground.

After landing the Hover Bike by threading between the trees, I stored it in my Isō Pendant, then equipped my Particle Armor. By now I could operate with my Particle Armor equipped for about five hours.

I examined the ground where giant ferns and undergrowth resembling Japanese silverleaf grew and found fresh footprints that seemed to belong to a Tyrant Dragon Belgona. I followed them forward. Then I sensed the presence of a massive creature ahead. I silenced my footsteps as I approached, stuck just my face out from behind a giant tree, and peered around it.

A Tyrant Dragon Belgona had taken down a Horn Saurus and was eating it. It opened its mouth lined with rows of sharp fangs and tore off chunks of Horn Saurus meat with chilling power. The smell of blood began to drift through the area.

I judged that now, while it hadn't noticed me, was my chance and launched a Particle Circular Soaring Blade aimed at the Tyrant Dragon Belgona's neck. In that instant, I realized Tenshiryoku was leaking from my body. I wasn't controlling my Tenshiryoku completely.

The Tyrant Dragon Belgona seemed to notice the Tenshiryoku too and pulled its mouth away from the Horn Saurus meat. That threw my aim off slightly. The Particle Circular Soaring Blade slashed open the Tyrant Dragon Belgona's belly.

Bright red blood gushed from that belly, and at the same time a roar that pressed against my ears rang out through the surroundings. As I tried to fire a follow-up Particle Circular Soaring Blade, the Belgona charged. Then my body covered in Particle Armor was struck by its whip-like tail and sent flying. I flew through the air snapping branches off giant trees before being slammed into the ground.

I noticed the Tyrant Dragon Belgona approaching me as I lay there, its footfalls echoing with heavy thuds, scrambled to my feet, and fired a Particle Circular Soaring Blade.

My aim went wide and the Particle Circular Soaring Blade slashed the Tyrant Dragon Belgona's shoulder. The Tyrant Dragon Belgona spewed paralysis gas from its mouth while spraying blood.

「This is bad.」

I retreated desperately and avoided the paralysis gas. Since I had my Particle Armor on, I couldn't wear a gas mask. But that didn't mean I felt like deactivating my Particle Armor. After running around and evading the paralysis gas, I released a Particle Circular Soaring Blade toward the Tyrant Dragon Belgona's legs.

The Tyrant Dragon Belgona apparently hadn't expected an attack on its legs either. The Particle Circular Soaring Blade severed the flustered Tyrant Dragon Belgona's right leg. I fired a Piercing Particle Bullet at the head of the Tyrant Dragon Belgona that had fallen with an earth-shaking crash.

A hole about eight centimeters across opened in its head, which looked to be a hundred and twenty centimeters in diameter. For a human that would guarantee instant death, but the Tyrant Dragon Belgona didn't die and thrashed about. So I pumped three consecutive Piercing Particle Bullets into that massive head and finished it off.

「Whew, Tyrant Dragon Belgonas really are tough opponents. But the fact that I could take it down means my skills have reached a competent level too.」

Having no one to answer me was lonely. As I thought about Sario, I sensed something approaching and stored the fallen Tyrant Dragon Belgona's carcass in my Isō Pendant.

「Tch, it ain't a monster, it's a human.」

What appeared was apparently another Toryū Ryōhei. However, he was of the Weretiger Race - a species of tiger-people. This Weretiger Race was known for being rough and frequently causing problems, so it would probably be safer not to get close.

「Hey, you see a Tyrant Dragon Belgona?」

「I saw one. But it's not here anymore.」

That member of the Weretiger Race fixed me with fierce, predatory eyes.

「You don't look strong, but did you take it down? Guess you can't judge by appearances.」

Mind your own business. Because of my age I apparently had wrinkles and sagging in my face and looked weak. Thanks to that, I occasionally got looked down on. Maybe I should seriously get the Longevity Treatment.

「My hunt's done, so I'll be on my way」

「That ain't very Toryū Ryōhei-like. Hey, what's your name?」

「I'm Zen, Rank D. And you?」

「I'm Zedeggā, Rank C.」

Zedeggā stood about two meters tall and looked to weigh a hundred and twenty kilograms. His face looked exactly like a tiger's, so he had presence.

After parting with Zedeggā, I went to the Toryū Ryōhei Guild and requested the Tyrant Dragon Belgona be butchered and a bracelet-type Isō Box be crafted. Incidentally, since I converted everything except the Ryūju to cash, 1.5 million Credits minus the Isō Bracelet crafting fee was deposited into my account.

The reason I was making a second Isō Box was that I was using the first one to store the Trans-Space-Time Jump Field Generator, the Luon Drive, and the unused Maintenance Robots. I wanted another one dedicated to storing the prey I took down.

Even just considering capacity, a Tyrant Dragon Belgona was the absolute limit of what could fit in there together with everything else.
