Chapter 58: Brother-in-Law
Chapter 58: Brother-in-Law
Clearly, she had already done very intimate things with the man, but Claire Shaw still couldn’t get used to his sudden flirtation.
Every time, with just a few words, the man could turn her into a stranger, as if they had already become boyfriend and girlfriend.
This change made Claire feel scared, and she instinctively pushed Ethan Blackwood away, unwilling to let herself continue to sink into his enthusiasm.
Ethan, however, didn’t force it and withdrew in time.
He pinched her cheek gently, "I’m not teasing you anymore. The room is ready now, so have a good rest. Good night."
Finally, he left a kiss on her forehead and turned to leave.
Claire stood in the bright and clean living room, touching the spot on her forehead where he had touched, a hint of wariness crossing her mind.
This man, he was slowly infiltrating her life, making her gradually ensnared.
In an unfamiliar environment, Claire thought she wouldn’t be able to sleep, but perhaps she was just tired today, as she quickly fell asleep.
The next day.
Sunlight streamed through the window onto her body. Claire stretched lazily; after resting for two days, she had become quite lazy.
She pulled off the quilt and got up to go to school.
Ever since Finn Pierce signed a contract with her, Claire’s status had instantaneously risen, and the principal was grinning ear to ear.
At the morning assembly, it was announced that Claire would be promoted to grade director, with Mia Hughes leading a frenzy of applause for her.
After the assembly, everyone gathered around to congratulate Claire, except Yasmin Yorke, who looked displeased, "Who knows what you relied on to get that contract. Let’s see how long you can keep smiling."
Mia scoffed at Yasmin, "Don’t mind her. Yasmin is definitely jealous of you; her dark heart is twisting and squirming like a maggot in the sewer right now."
Just as the two were playfully bickering, Claire’s phone rang. The real estate agent informed her that someone wanted to buy the house outright, but insisted on a discount of fifty thousand.
Mia advised Claire not to sell herself short, leading Claire to recount the whole situation with Owen Crawford, and after hearing it, Mia empathized and furiously cursed Owen for an hour straight.
After the agent conveyed Claire’s decision, the other party was apparently concerned Claire might back out, promptly agreeing to sign the contract, pay the deposit, and proceed with the notarization and transfer procedures the next day.
Claire had been so busy these past two days that, once home, she’d collapse into bed and sleep.
Until an unexpected phone call came through; Claire had just fallen asleep when she groggily answered, "It’s me."
"Sister, I’m truly envious that you can sleep so early. Unlike me, I’m swamped with preparing for the engagement, busy every day beyond belief."
Stella Sutton’s sugary voice came through, disrupting Claire’s pleasant dreams.
Claire yawned, "So, did you specifically call to let me congratulate you, or to see me in tears?"
"How could you think that of me? Sister, you are always a blood relative of The Sutton Family. It’s rare for there to be a happy event in the family. Tomorrow evening is the family dinner for the Suttons and the Crawfords; I hope you can attend."
The invitation to the family dinner was just a guise; what she really wanted was to embarrass her.
How could Claire not understand her intentions?
Ever since they were young, Stella always took whatever was hers.
But is it worth gambling a lifetime of happiness to seize a despicable man?
Coincidentally, the buyer had already transferred the remaining payment to Claire’s account today. She needed to clear things up with Owen after all.
No time like the present.
"Alright, Miss Sutton, rest assured I will be there on time."
Early the next morning, Claire took the proactive step of removing a man from her blacklist and sent him a message.
These past few days, Owen Crawford had not been having an easy time, since his hiring of thugs to cause trouble at the orphanage had been discovered by The Blackwood Family, who subsequently canceled the cooperation on that project.
Although other projects weren’t affected, Owen was still reprimanded by Mr. Crawford for neglecting the bigger picture over a woman.
All of Owen’s bad mood disappeared the moment he saw Claire.
As the sun set, Claire wore a strapless fishtail dress covered in shimmering sequins.
Her hair was styled up, and she was adorned with pearl earrings and a necklace, sporting an unusually full face of makeup.
As she walked towards him with the sun at her back, she was radiant; even her crimson lips were shining.
The tightly fitted dress accentuated her slim waist, full bust, and her slender legs were tantalizingly visible beneath the dress.
Elegant and noble, yet there was no denying the woman’s sensuality and allure.
Such a contradiction, the purity and lust these conflicting auras blended perfectly within her.
Even after pursuing this woman for six years, Owen would never tire of her face, even if he saw it ten thousand more times.
Recently, Claire seemed to have gained a lot more charm than before, making his heart stir.
It seemed like all women under the sky were the same; for money, they would eventually lower their heads as regal as swans.
She set the meeting place here, planning to dine with The Sutton Family tonight, making it thrilling and nerve-wracking for Owen.
He stepped confidently toward Claire, one hand in his pocket, holding the room key he had long prepared.
With a smile at the corner of his mouth, Owen magnanimously said, "Claire, I can let bygones be bygones."
The closer he got to Claire, the more he marveled at her beauty.
"Darling, we will have an unforgettable night," he lowered his voice, thinking it sexy.
Claire stopped a meter away from him, holding a chain bag by her side, strutting in heels, smiling with irresistible charm, "I think so too."
Owen was overjoyed, just about to speak, when Claire opened her lips, her voice sweetly stretched out, "Brother-in-law."
