Chapter 108 - 95: Ji Lingruo’s Story (Part 2)
"I... cough, cough!"
You Su had just uttered a word when his emotions got the better of him, causing him to cough violently. Ji Lingruo’s previous pretense of restraint vanished instantly, and she hurried to his bedside to gently pat his back.
Once You Su had calmed down a bit, he tremulously lifted his head to look at the girl who was so close at hand. He wanted to activate his eyes, but his previous overexertion left him unable to react even though his eyes were now bloodshot.
Without a word, You Su grabbed Ji Lingruo’s hand, speaking earnestly, "What else is my junior sister hiding from me?"
Ji Lingruo was taken aback by the question, allowing him to hold her soft hand. "Nothing..."
"Has it come to this, and you are still wary of me?"
Seeing You Su’s sad expression, Ji Lingruo felt the same in her heart. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to reveal her background to You Su out of caution, but rather she didn’t want to announce a farewell prematurely.
"I’ll, I’ll tell you."
You Su responded gently and then conveniently embraced Ji Lingruo’s small arm, as if afraid she might run away. As if thinking this wasn’t enough, he moved closer to Ji Lingruo, resting his head gently on her shoulder.
"Behave yourself...that day was necessary, but it doesn’t mean you can just touch this miss however you like in the future."
"Of course, but at this moment, can my poor senior brother lean on you for a while?" You Su inhaled the fragrance that was so different from his master’s, feeling his exhaustion ease.
Not only did she allow it, Ji Lingruo wished that You Su could always rely on her, so she muttered:
"Just for a while."
You Su nodded honestly, waiting for Ji Lingruo to speak.
"Senior brother, do you know about Taisui?"
You Su nodded again.
"So how did you realize that Taisui was mine in that white space?"
"I would never fail to recognize my junior sister." You Su’s tone was resolute, as if speaking both to Ji Lingruo and to himself.
"Hmph, you talk a good game." Ji Lingruo smiled, giving the self-satisfied You Su a glance, "Then you tell me your experience first, no lying."
You Su felt helpless; his previous two confessions had unexpectedly been to the same monster.
So You Su recounted the details of the past month, although Ji Lingruo had heard it once in his consciousness, she just wanted You Su to tell it to her in person once more.
"So, does senior brother know now why Taisui and the Dream-eating Ghost did it?"
You Su shook his head; he couldn’t figure out the answer to the question.
Ji Lingruo organized her words and then recounted the memories she glimpsed before Taisui dissipated to You Su.
By the time she finished speaking, it was unclear how much time had passed, and You Su organized his thoughts:
"So the Power of the True God that Mr. Liou went through so much effort to obtain is now inside me?"
"It seems so. This isn’t a trivial matter, senior brother; you can’t tell anyone! Not even that master."
Ji Lingruo warned You Su in a deliberately low voice, and You Su naturally understood the reasoning.
The True Lord—the source of all evil.
Such a secret lay bare before You Su, and becoming a participant made it feel quite surreal to him.
Is it really his duty to eradicate all the world’s sins?
You Su still didn’t have an answer.
"This is a secret only known to my junior sister."
Ji Lingruo’s serious expression eased slightly, "Do you hate that Taisui, senior brother?"
Unexpectedly, You Su was caught off guard by Ji Lingruo’s question. "Of course I hate her. She dared to try to replace you, how could I not hate her?"
Ji Lingruo bit her lower lip. She, too, couldn’t help but be filled with hatred, yet the other’s experiences made it hard for her to hold onto that resentment. The girl’s heart was softer than her lips; if Taisui could come back to life, Ji Lingruo wouldn’t forgive her, but she definitely wouldn’t seek vengeance against her.
"She is also just a pitiful person..."
You Su neither agreed nor disagreed, "Junior sister, does your recent surge in cultivation have something to do with Taisui?"
"Well... she really helped me a lot."
"What about that round pill inside you? I see the Profound Qi in your body should have entered the Spirit Platform Realm, so why is there a round pill instead of a Spirit Platform?"
"Because, I..." Ji Lingru’s words reached her lips, but she hesitated, finally making up her mind to say, "I’m not human, I’m a demon."
"I see." You Su’s tone was calm.
"Wh-why are you acting like this? Aren’t you surprised at all?" Ji Lingruo looked incredulous, after keeping this secret for so long.
"Unless my junior sister says you’re Taisui now, it’s really hard for me to be surprised." You Su sat upright, looking calmly at Ji Lingruo.
Ji Lingruo pouted, a blush coloring her cheeks as she leaned her head on You Su’s shoulder:
"Do you want to hear my story?"
"Of course."
...
Demons are formed from animals with very little spiritual essence that absorb Profound Qi, and records of clashes between humans and demons are even more ancient than those between the creatures of the Five Continents and evil spirits.
At the same level, demons are faintly stronger than humans, but there are fewer demons, and cultivation is much harder for them than for the Human Race.
Among the five Immortal Ancestors, only one, the Star Shining Immortal Ancestor, was a demon, also known as the Demon Ancestor.
After the Star Shining Immortal Ancestor passed away, most of the demons in this world were driven by the Human Race to live on the East Japan Continent, protected by the Star Shining Divine Mountain.
Ji Lingruo and her sister grew up on the East Japan Continent, without parents from an early age.
The woman who raised them, Ms Liou, told them that their mother, Ji Muyan, was the hope for the revival of the Snake Race but had developed a forbidden relationship with a fallen human cultivator who had strayed to the East Japan Continent.
They eloped at the height of their passion and had a forbidden child. But the human cultivator took advantage of Ji Muyan’s vulnerable state during childbirth to kill her, the one who abandoned everything for him. His goal was Ji Muyan’s Demon Pill.
Human cultivators store Qi with their Spirit Platform, while demon cultivators rely on their Demon Pill. This is also the most straightforward difference between humans and demons.
The human cultivator saw no hope for a breakthrough, and so set his sights on the Demon Pill.
When Ms Liou found Ji Muyan, she had already become a corpse, with only the cries of the two children in her arms. No one ever knew the name of that male cultivator.
This even sparked severe conflict between the Human Race and the Demon Race, ending ultimately as a fruitless search for revenge.
The two pitiful children grew up each day, and as products of a human and demon union, their flaws became increasingly apparent.
The elder sister, Ji Xueruo, was exceptionally talented, yet lacked a Demon Pill; the younger sister, Ji Lingruo, was of average talent, but did have a Demon Pill.
These sisters couldn’t reverse the Snake Race’s gradual decline, so the elders of the Snake Race decided to take the Demon Pill from the younger sister to give to the elder sister while still young and unaware.
Thus, the elder sister became a genuine prodigy, even surpassing Ji Muyan of the past, appearing to have the potential to lead the Snake Race back to the Star Shining Divine Mountain. It’s known that, like the other four human Divine Mountains, only a prominent and powerful Demon Race can occupy a Divine Mountain and enjoy its endless resources.
Meanwhile, the younger sister became increasingly ordinary, growing more overlooked in the Snake Race.
One day, Ji Lingruo learned the truth and bore no grudge, merely hoping to avenge her mother one day.
Yet Ji Xueruo thought differently. She tried her best to grant her sister’s every desire, except allowing her to participate in the revenge, believing her sister’s power was too weak, and without a Demon Pill, there was no path to immortality; forcing her into this would only add unnecessary danger.
Her overbearing unilateral decision sparked Ji Lingruo’s pent-up dissatisfaction to erupt. Angrily, the girl left home. Some demons told her that in ancient times, some demons had no Demon Pill but were able to establish a Spirit Platform and achieve immortality by utilizing human cultivation methods.
At fourteen, she boldly boarded a great ship bound for Zhongyuan Continent, vowing silently that even if she gave her Demon Pill to her sister, Ji Lingruo would grow strong enough to personally avenge her mother.
