Chapter 935: The Story of Three Old Men
Chapter 935: The Story of Three Old Men
In Tianhai, after Lin Yiwen and Zhang Lan returned, they had been incredibly busy with two main tasks: their work and their son’s big wedding. This left them somewhat distracted and worn out, but no matter how tired they got, their happiness knew no bounds. The joy of their son’s marriage outweighed everything.
These days, the couple was driven to their limits. They worked half the day and spent the rest arranging their son’s wedding matters, dividing the tasks between them. Lin Yiwen supervised the renovation company working overtime on Lin Feng’s new apartment in the afternoons, hiring more workers and buying materials as needed. Despite being run off his feet, the smile never left Lin Yiwen’s face—he was genuinely overjoyed!
Zhang Lan, on the other hand, was in charge of myriad other tasks—the wedding hotel, the guest list, and all the specific wedding procedures. Even for a woman as capable as her, it was exhausting. But no matter how tiring it got, she remained in an excited state because she was organizing her son’s wedding. The busier she got, the happier she was, knowing a successful wedding for her son meant more to her than anything else.
Lin Yiwen and Zhang Lan worked themselves to the bone for Lin Feng’s wedding, but the results were evident. The new apartment was completed ahead of schedule, and the renovation turned out so beautifully that it greatly satisfied them both. Meanwhile, Zhang Lan had managed to put all the wedding-related matters in order. All that was left for Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er’s wedding was to finalize the details upon their return.
On the other side, Ding Yi was also very busy. Although he was giving away his granddaughter, there were still numerous tasks to take care of, which kept him significantly occupied. Then, Leng Hui arrived in Tianhai, which delighted Ding Yi. After an absence, Qian Rong also reappeared, and once again, the three elders gathered, all in great spirits. Together, they hatched plans to make Ding Wan’er and Lin Feng’s wedding unsurpassed in the world.
Living abroad, Ding Wan’er’s parents Ding Bo and Zhou Ping also finished their tasks and rushed back from overseas to arrange their daughter’s wedding. It was, after all, their own daughter’s special day, and they certainly had to participate. After their return, they joined the three elders, causing quite a stir as they busied themselves with the wedding preparations.
In short, both families invested a great deal of effort and did everything in their power to make Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er’s wedding the best possible. This was their one and only wish, and both sides were essentially ready when Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er returned at that time.
The couple was promptly taken by Lin Yiwen and Zhang Lan to the new apartment upon landing. It was decorated exactly according to Lin Feng’s design plans, meticulously supervised by Lin Yiwen and made with the best materials. There was no odor in the new apartment, and even though the customized furniture was yet to be placed, the decoration was superb. Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er were both very satisfied, and immediately after, they discussed some wedding details with their parents, conversing well into the afternoon.
In the evening, they received a call from Ding Yi and hurried over to his place from Lin Feng’s home, laughing in the car about how they never anticipated these many intricacies with the wedding. They understood that probably the same was happening on Ding Yi’s end. Lin Feng could only helplessly smile about it, while Ding Wan’er was greatly emotional by the side, thinking that even with the simplifications, there was so much to do. She wished they had opted for a Western-style wedding to avoid these complications...
But that was just a passing thought. They knew that since everything was already set, it could not be changed. With all the preparation the elders had done, there was no choice but to continue. So, by the time they arrived at Ding Yi’s villa, they had adjusted their mindset. Ding Wan’er was smiling, linking arms with Lin Feng as they stepped into Ding Yi’s villa.
Upon entering the villa, they immediately saw the three elders sitting in the living room. Lin Feng led Ding Wan’er to greet them.
"Grandpas, hello."
"Grandpas, hello."
Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er greeted them first, surprised to see the three elders so engrossed in their conversation that they didn’t even notice their arrival. The couple was curious—what could the three elders possibly be discussing so intently?
"You’ve arrived, sit down and let’s talk." Ding Yi realized that his granddaughter and grandson-in-law had returned when he heard Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er speak. He quickly waved his hand, signaling them to find a spot to sit and chat. They had been so engrossed in their conversation that they hadn’t noticed the couple’s arrival.
Lin Feng and Ding Wan’er, upon hearing Ding Yi’s words, walked straight to the couch, randomly picked a spot, and sat down side by side. Then Ding Wan’er began to speak.
"Grandpas, what were you talking about just now? You were all so engrossed it’s like you didn’t even see us return." Ding Wan’er asked first. She knew the three old men were very close friends and was curious about what could have so deeply absorbed them that they didn’t realize she and Lin Feng had come back. Ding Wan’er really wanted to know what they had been discussing.
"My girl, the three of us old guys were reminiscing about the past and reflecting on life. Sometimes, it really feels like a dream. Amidst the sword fights and battles, I never expected I, Qian Rong, would live to see today, haha!"
Qian Rong spoke first, laughing. They had indeed been reminiscing. Somehow, their conversation had led them back to past events, sparking spontaneous reflections.
"Yeah, the years urge us to age. Back in the day, think of what we were like. And now, in a blink of an eye, you all have grown so much, and Wan’er is about to have a grand wedding. There’s only Duoduo left, and our ambitions as three old fellows will be completely fulfilled."
Leng Hui took over the conversation. He felt very much the same as Qian Rong. Under the hail of bullets and imminent death, he never thought he would survive. And yet, he was saved by Lin Feng’s master. That single act not only spared his life but set him on a course for the following decades. Now, as he is approaching a life mostly buried in the earth, and seeing his grandchildren settled, how could he not be moved by the passage of life? It seemed to pass so quickly, as fast as the blink of an eye...
"Now, thinking back to when Wan’er was born, the scene of us three old men fussing over her—it was truly a happy time. And in the blink of an eye, Wan’er is about to be married. Time has passed so swiftly, and all of us have become old men."
Hearing what Qian Rong and Leng Hui said, Ding Yi also felt a deep sense of nostalgia for the swift passage of time. Unconsciously, Wan’er had grown up and was about to be married. A complex feeling swirled in his heart. He remembered that if it wasn’t for Lin Feng’s master, that Immortal-like figure, they would not have been here today. Without his intervention, the three of them definitely wouldn’t be part of this world anymore.
At this thought, Ding Yi suddenly realized something important—they had tried to think of everyone to invite, but they had forgotten about Lin Feng’s Immortal-like master. How could this be? After decades of not seeing him, Lin Feng and Wan’er’s wedding would be the perfect occasion to properly thank that noble figure.
"Lin Feng, where is your master? Can you find him? Your master must attend your wedding!" Ding Yi asked Lin Feng first. He truly wanted to see Lin Feng’s master again. Decades had passed, and his longing and gratitude for the elder intensified daily. With Lin Feng and Wan’er’s wedding coming up, he was eager to meet that Immortal-like figure one more time; otherwise, he feared he might never see him again in his lifetime.
"Right, Lin Feng, do you know, the only benefactor in my rough life is your master. If not for him, I would’ve died under a violent blade long ago. The life-saving grace your master showed me, this old ruffian will remember for a lifetime. But to this day, I still don’t understand why he saved me. I’d really like to see your master during your wedding and sincerely thank him. Without him, there would be no Qian Rong today."
As soon as Qian Rong heard what Ding Yi said, he immediately continued the topic. This was precisely what he had been thinking. So many years had passed without seeing that elder, and the matter weighed heavily on Qian Rong’s unrefined heart. He truly wished to see Lin Feng’s master again. The last time, when Wan’er was born, the master had vanished after a few simple words, and Qian Rong hadn’t had the chance to speak what was in his heart. Now, with Lin Feng’s upcoming wedding, it was the best opportunity. If possible, he yearned to meet Lin Feng’s master once more.
"Lin Feng, try to get in touch with your master, invite him to your wedding. Your master’s kindness is akin to giving us a second life. We’ve been missing him for decades and sincerely wish to meet him again. Otherwise, even after a hundred years, it would be our greatest regret."
Leng Hui’s feelings aligned with the other two old men—they had all been saved by Lin Feng’s master. Now, at their age, they didn’t know when they might leave this world. If there was one wish they hadn’t fulfilled, it was probably just this—to see that Immortal-like old man once more in their lifetime. It would fulfill their wishes, as the regret would haunt them even in death otherwise.
