Chapter 662: Liu Pingfeng Comes Out of Seclusion (Third Update)
"Brother Lin Feng, our university is hosting an event; we’ve invited the world-famous Chinese pop star Su Xiaoxi to hold a concert, and I want you to come with me," Lin Jie quietly handed Lin Feng a ticket. She was really happy today, really wanted Lin Feng to go with her to the concert, because Su Xiaoxi’s concerts are truly rare opportunities. She didn’t want to miss out on this event, and wished to spend the most wonderful time together with Lin Feng.
"Okay, I’ll definitely go," Lin Feng said as he took the ticket without a second thought, upon seeing Lin Jie so happy. He did know who Su Xiaoxi was. Although the entertainment industry was rather messy, Su Xiaoxi had no scandals at all, and her songs weren’t any vulgar type; they were all inspirational, encouraging people to strive for better, with a very good reputation in the entertainment industry and adored by the youth. Her music was popular all over the world, with countless fans.
He had always heard the students talking about Su Xiaoxi and hadn’t expected that she would come to Tianhai. It would be nice to accompany Lin Jie to such a concert. With that thought, Lin Feng readily agreed. He wasn’t opposed to watching this kind of concert, and going with Lin Jie would make her happy, something he felt he should do.
"Oh yeah! That’s settled then. Make sure you come to find me, Brother Lin Feng!" Lin Jie, upon seeing Lin Feng readily agree, instantly jumped for joy, waved at Lin Feng then ran off to her parents.
"Steady down, child, we’re going home now. Big brother and sister-in-law, you all can go too," Liu Li tapped her daughter’s forehead and chided gently, then waved at Lin Yiwen’s family to signal they could leave without needing to see them off.
"Sure, good. Once you’ve left, we’ll go inside. Drive safely," Zhang Lan instructed with a smile.
"Don’t worry about us, Liu Li didn’t drink, she can drive with no problem," Lin Dongchen also waved his hand, signaling Liu Li to drive without worry for Lin Yiwen’s family.
"Uncle and aunt, you can go home. We’ll come over when we’re free."
"Okay, Xiao Jie, come by anytime you want, and I’ll have Brother Lin Feng make you something delicious."
"Of course, uncle and aunt, I’ll definitely come over often."
...
After exchanging some polite words, Lin Dongchen’s family got in the car and drove out of the villa area, disappearing into the darkness.
Lin Yiwen and Zhang Lan returned to the villa with smiles on their faces. They felt very happy about Lin Dongchen’s family visit, which had brought excitement to their house for the first time in a long while.
Just as Lin Feng was about to go back inside, he saw Zhu Tao standing in the darkness. Knowing that Zhu Tao must have something to discuss, he stayed his steps and didn’t go inside.
"Old Zhu, what’s up?" Lin Feng moved closer to Zhu Tao and asked simply.
"Young Master, someone came by tonight, and I stopped them. They delivered an invitation," Zhu Tao quickly handed Lin Feng the invitation that he’d received earlier in the evening, explaining he’s usually around Lin Feng’s house and saw a stranger heading toward it, so he intercepted them. Only after questioning did he learn that they were delivering an invitation. Knowing that there was a gathering at Lin Feng’s house, Zhu Tao took the invitation, kept a phone number, and let the person leave.
After looking at the invitation himself, Zhu Tao was also stunned by its contents. He never expected that the Nangong Family, one of the Four Great Prominent Families, would reach out to Lin Feng. He was perplexed about why the Nangong Family, which generally kept a low profile, was suddenly seeking Lin Feng; what could this all mean?
"Oh." Lin Feng took the invitation from Zhu Tao and upon opening it, was surprised to see that it was from the Nangong Family, one of the Four Great Prominent Families, inviting him to a banquet. This left Lin Feng mystified as he hadn’t had any dealings with the Nangong Family before; why would they send him an invitation? On seeing the date at the back, Lin Feng was taken aback since it coincided with when he was supposed to go to the concert with Lin Jie. He wouldn’t be free to go. Since that was the case, he might as well forget it. He really didn’t care much for the Nangong Family anyway, whether he went or not didn’t matter. Since it conflicted with the concert he was going to watch with Lin Jie, he decided not to attend.
"Old Zhu, tell them I don’t have the time, I have a concert to attend," Lin Feng said indifferently.
"Understood, Young Master, I’ll notify them," Zhu Tao immediately agreed upon hearing Lin Feng’s words, but he too felt somewhat uneasy. He knew what the four major Prominent Families were like, and he was well aware that Lin Feng would also surely know of their affairs. Since Lin Feng refused the invitation like that, it meant one thing: Lin Feng did not regard the Nangong Family with any importance at all. Only Lin Feng could handle the situation in such a manner. Had it been someone else, they would have accepted the invitation without a second thought, fearing to offend anyone from the Prominent Families.
"By the way, Old Zhu, keep a close watch these days and be wary of strangers," Lin Feng suddenly thought of something. Given that the Nangong Family had managed to locate this place, it indicated that they were well-prepared. With this in mind, Lin Feng instructed Zhu Tao, as he didn’t want any trouble at home while he was away. Having Zhu Tao at home allowed him a bit more peace of mind regarding the possibility of the Nangong Family showing up.
"Of course, Young Master, you need not worry. With me here at home, there won’t be any problems," Zhu Tao reassured him upon hearing Lin Feng’s words. Being trusted by Lin Feng with the safety of their home, Zhu Tao immediately promised to live up to that trust and put Lin Feng’s mind at ease.
"Good, the rest is up to you. I’m going back inside," Lin Feng said before heading back into the villa.
After seeing Lin Feng return to the villa, Zhu Tao took out his phone and told the other party that Lin Feng had no time. After conveying the message, he hung up immediately. Since Lin Feng had given him such an order, he must ensure the safety of their household. Thinking this, he vanished into the dark night.
Capital City, Leng Family.
After Lin Feng and Leng Mei left, Leng Hao seemed like a completely different person. He no longer wandered around aimlessly as before but stayed within the Leng Family grounds, practicing martial arts in the morning and evening, and spending the afternoons preparing medicine for Grandpa Meng and his grandfather, chatting with the two old men and making sure they didn’t play chess like before. Both Leng Hui and Meng Ping were incredibly grateful to Lin Feng, and felt as if Leng Hao had matured overnight.
One morning, as Leng Hao practiced martial arts behind the Leng residence according to Lin Feng’s advice, his phone suddenly rang, which surprised him. Only a few people knew this number; how could it be ringing out of the blue?
After finishing his practice, Leng Hao approached the phone, picked it up, and was shocked. It was a call from his master, something he never dreamt would happen. He hastily answered the call.
"Hello, Master, have you left seclusion?" Leng Hao excitedly inquired, though his mind was in turmoil. Why would his master abruptly leave seclusion? Could it be... could it be because of the eldest senior brother’s incident? To think his master had never called him before. What on earth was going on?
"Xiao Hao, come back to the sect," Liu Pingfeng, with his slender stature dressed in a gray robe, his hair and beard a mix of black and white but his complexion radiant and an aura of nobility about him, spoke calmly after hearing Leng Hao’s voice. He was extremely pleased, for this youngest disciple was his most proud, possessing talent far exceeding that of ordinary people.
"Right away, Master, I’ll rush back," Leng Hao promptly replied upon hearing his master summon him, his heart pounding with nervousness. His master’s sudden emergence was highly unusual and calling him back so urgently even more so. It likely had to be about the matters concerning his eldest senior brother, or else his master wouldn’t have made such a rushed phone call.
"Yes, we’ll talk when you’re back," Liu Pingfeng said before hanging up. He shook his head and sighed deeply, standing atop a large rock near a cliff’s edge, lost in thought.
Upon hearing the busy tone on the phone, Leng Hao didn’t dare to delay and immediately ran back to his grandfather.
"Grandfather, I need to leave for a bit. My master has summoned me suddenly," Leng Hao informed his grandfather, who was chatting in the courtyard with Grandpa Meng, keeping it brief.
"Yes, if your master has summoned you, you must go at once. Did he mention what it’s about?" Leng Hui was startled when he heard his grandson say his master had summoned him. What had happened for such a sudden summons? Could it be... could it be about Yuan Kun’s matter? That was a real possibility. Would his grandson face any dangers there?
"Indeed, Xiao Hao, how come your master suddenly summoned you?" Meng Ping was also alarmed hearing Leng Hao’s words. He knew from their previous talks about all of Yuan Kun’s deeds, that Yuan Kun was killed by Leng Hao. Could it be that Leng Hao’s master was aware of this and wanted to settle scores with him?
"Master didn’t say anything, but his tone was composed. No matter what, I must rush back to see him when summoned. Grandfather, Grandpa Meng, don’t worry about me. My master is a good person; he won’t make things difficult for me," Leng Hao reassured them, knowing full well what the two grandfathers were worried about. Though part of him shared their anxiety, he knew he had to face whatever was coming. It was best to head back to the sect quickly. Besides, his master was very kind and wouldn’t blame him too harshly.
With these thoughts, Leng Hao reassured the two grandfathers with a smile. He didn’t want the elderly to fret over him. Going back to the sect shouldn’t pose any danger. After all, it was the eldest senior brother who initiated the wrongdoing, and Leng Hao had acted in self-defense. If he explained everything to his master, such a person would surely not blame him too much.
