Chapter 643: Zhao Jian’s Trouble (First Update)
Chapter 643: Zhao Jian’s Trouble (First Update)
"Zhao Jian, do you have something to tell me?" Ding Wan’er asked, feeling quite surprised as she was stopped by Zhao Jian immediately upon arriving at work. She wondered what Zhao Jian could possibly want with her.
"Well... Principal, there’s something I need to discuss with you." Hearing Ding Wan’er’s question, Zhao Jian quickly responded, his expression growing tense as he pondered how to broach the subject with Ding Wan’er. Lin Feng had been assigned to the Comprehensive Department by Ding Wan’er herself, and Zhao Jian was unsure how she would react to the suggestion of transferring Lin Feng out of the Comprehensive Department...
"What’s the matter?" Ding Wan’er saw the nervous look on Zhao Jian’s face, her eyebrows furrowing instantly. She felt a wave of curiosity. Although Zhao Jian wasn’t particularly capable, he hadn’t made any significant errors. What could be making him so tense?
"Well... that is... Principal, could you transfer Lin Feng out of the Comprehensive Department?" Zhao Jian grew even more nervous at seeing Ding Wan’er’s frown, but after much contemplation, he still felt the need to have Lin Feng transferred out. Otherwise, he saw no way to endure his future days. Now that he was speaking with Ding Wan’er, he decided to just come out with it.
"For what reason?" Ding Wan’er found Zhao Jian’s suggestion even stranger upon hearing it. Lin Feng was in name only part of the Comprehensive Department, mostly teaching French with Sister Leng. Whether he was transferred or not didn’t make much difference. Why did Zhao Jian want Lin Feng to leave the Comprehensive Department?
"Principal, Lin Feng is simply too outstanding. Ever since he joined the Comprehensive Department, his personal capabilities have shone through tremendously. He’s always at the forefront of any task, and there’s nothing he can’t handle. He’s hardworking and never complains. Any task assigned to him is completed on time and beyond standard. At work, Lin Feng is a role model for the entire Comprehensive Department, even the whole Logistics Section!"
"Furthermore, Lin Feng can unite his colleagues. In the department, he maintains a very good relationship with everyone, showing a lot of care for every person, often helping with various problems. His attentiveness in life extends to everyone in the office, where each person greatly likes Lin Feng. Not just in the Comprehensive Department, but the whole Logistics Section acknowledges how capable Lin Feng is!"
"When Lin Feng later went to teach French in the Language Department, he could still manage the Comprehensive Department’s affairs, which is extremely rare. Such character is truly commendable. Usually, if someone were given such an opportunity, they would certainly leave the Logistics Section to focus on teaching. But Lin Feng didn’t do that. On the contrary, he’s very attentive to all matters of the Comprehensive Department, eager to do both what he can and cannot do!"
"Therefore, Lin Feng is simply too excellent, so much so that there seems to be no end to it. Not only does everyone in our department think so, but the entire Logistics Section believes this as well. Lin Feng’s goodness is beyond words. How does that saying go? Lin Feng is like the sun in the sky, shining so brightly. How can he fit within the confines of our small department?"
"I believe you know as well, Principal, that not just I, but probably everyone on campus feels this way. Even across Tianhai, many people share this sentiment. Why is that? Doesn’t this show how extraordinary Lin Feng is, that his personal charm has reached levels beyond most people’s imagination? Honestly, I don’t feel qualified to lead Lin Feng. Perhaps, in the entire university, only you, Principal, are capable of leading Lin Feng."
"Also, Lin Feng is just too dazzling. He feels like he’s not even from this world, being all-powerful. Such a person seems like they could only exist in myths. At first, I didn’t believe it, but now I am completely convinced. Lin Feng is beyond words in how amazing he is. Perhaps even immortals aren’t as incredible as Lin Feng!"
...
Zhao Jian lavishly praised Lin Feng, his words extremely exaggerated, making Lin Feng seem as if he were an omnipotent immortal, like a saint deserving of admiration. His sole purpose was to convince Ding Wan’er to transfer Lin Feng out of the Comprehensive Department. Since Ding Wan’er had asked for a reason, he had no choice but to keep praising the protagonist. He couldn’t possibly admit to Ding Wan’er that he was afraid of Lin Feng, as that would be too shameless for someone in his position as a department head.
In the past few days, Zhao Jian had been tormented to the point of nearly losing sleep. All he desired now was to send away this "immortal," Lin Feng, who had quickly become his nightmare. Whenever he thought of Lin Feng’s initial days in the Comprehensive Department and what he had done to him, he felt a surge of fear. Back then, how could he have foreseen that Lin Feng was the Principal’s fiancé? Full of disdain for Lin Feng, he had sought to make trouble for him, employing every tactic, fair or unfair, and had thoroughly offended Lin Feng.
After the new semester started and Ding Wan’er had her birthday, he found out that, incredibly, Lin Feng was actually Ding Wan’er’s fiancé. When he heard the news, he was nearly dumbfounded, never having imagined this outcome. From that moment, he was constantly on edge, petrified that Lin Feng might make things difficult for him. After all, he was Ding Wan’er’s fiancé—if Lin Feng said just a word to her, his position as the section chief could be gone. How could he not be extremely nervous?
It had not been easy for him to become the section chief, and he truly did not want to lose this position. When out and about, as soon as people heard that he was a section chief at Yingbo University, they would be immensely envious. This made him care even more about holding onto his role as section chief—he really did not want to lose it!
But with Lin Feng hanging around in the department, he would drop by from time to time to check on things, and every visit had him walking on eggshells, incessantly fawning over Lin Feng. This left him, as a section chief, with no prestige left in the department, but he genuinely had no choice. Now that Lin Feng was Ding Wan’er’s fiancé, even if he were as stubborn as a pig-headed fool, he could no longer afford to treat Lin Feng in the old way. If he failed to sweet-talk this ’Immortal’ Lin Feng and Lin Feng ended up displeased, he could very well be packing up his things and leaving.
So during this time, Zhao Jian lived in a state of exceptional oppression. Now, all he felt towards Lin Feng was fear and nothing else. Gone were the days when he would order Lin Feng around—now, he would almost wish that Lin Feng would command him, ready and willing to do anything just so Lin Feng would forgive his past actions.
Unable to bear the torment any longer, he decided to seek out Ding Wan’er with the intention of asking her to transfer Lin Feng away from the general office. Avoiding further contact with Lin Feng seemed like the best solution. He really had had enough of these days and didn’t want to endure another...
As Lin Feng walked towards Zhao Jian, he listened to Zhao Jian’s endless and exaggerated praise and couldn’t help but find Zhao Jian laughable. He knew Zhao Jian was skilled at brown-nosing, but he truly hadn’t expected Zhao Jian to lay it on so thick. When Lin Feng reached Zhao Jian, he couldn’t bear to listen any longer.
"When did I become an ’Immortal’ without noticing?" Lin Feng couldn’t help but interrupt Zhao Jian, fearing that if Zhao Jian went on, who knew what he would be flattered into being. Lin Feng was completely speechless about Zhao Jian’s behavior, dumbfounded by how far the praise was stretched—as if he was being exalted into the most fearsome, most perfect person in the world. It was utterly preposterous.
Of course, Lin Feng also knew what Zhao Jian was thinking. His status as the university president’s fiancé was making Zhao Jian extremely nervous. Since Ding Wan’er’s birthday, he had noticed a complete 180 in Zhao Jian’s behavior. Whenever Zhao Jian came to the general office, he never carried the same air of superiority and were not nearly as commanding as before. Instead, he was now exceedingly respectful to the point of sycophancy. Lin Feng had absolutely no interest in someone like Zhao Jian.
"Ah, Lin... Lin Feng is here," Zhao Jian jumped in fright at Lin Feng’s voice, cutting short his boundless praises. He never expected Lin Feng to arrive so early or to catch him talking with Ding Wan’er. What to do now? Had Lin Feng heard his request to Ding Wan’er about transferring him away from the office? What would Lin Feng think of him if he had heard? This could indeed turn out to be a disaster—if Lin Feng caught on, how would Lin Feng treat him then...
As these thoughts raced through his mind, Zhao Jian grew increasingly tense, silently praying that Lin Feng wouldn’t say anything against him, or his job as the section chief could truly be over. Without even realizing it, a cold sweat formed on Zhao Jian’s forehead, and his heart nearly leapt into his throat!
Ding Wan’er nearly burst into laughter upon seeing how Zhao Jian was at the moment. Such extravagant flattery for Lin Feng was easy for Zhao Jian to express—he had been rattling on and on just moments before, yet upon Lin Feng’s arrival, here was Zhao Jian, nervous like a mouse that had seen a cat. Zhao Jian was simply too amusing!
Ding Wan’er of course understood Zhao Jian’s motives. When Lin Feng had been assigned to the general office, she had even warned Zhao Jian. Without a doubt, Zhao Jian must have done many things back then, and now, fearful that Lin Feng would hold a grudge and he could potentially lose his job because of it, he was showing such intense nervousness. This was exactly why Zhao Jian had come to her, hoping she would transfer Lin Feng away from the general office—Zhao Jian probably couldn’t sleep well at all if Lin Feng stayed.
However, Ding Wan’er felt quite pleased inside. No matter what, Zhao Jian had lavished Lin Feng with compliments that delighted her to hear. Even though she knew Zhao Jian’s praises were mostly insincere, she still enjoyed listening to him extol Lin Feng. Thus, she didn’t stop Zhao Jian’s prattle just then. And later, when she saw Lin Feng approaching, Ding Wan’er was even less inclined to interrupt Zhao Jian. She rather wanted Lin Feng to hear Zhao Jian’s words, which certainly did amuse her. Without a moment’s hesitation, Zhao Jian had all but deified Lin Feng into an ’Immortal.’
