Chapter 333: The Thoughts of Two Women
Chapter 333: The Thoughts of Two Women
"Ah, my junior brother is destined to be no ordinary man. Compared to him, I, as his senior brother, am truly nothing!" Wang Anjun was filled with emotion as he continued to lift his cup and down the wine within. The abilities that his junior brother has shown far exceed the comprehension of ordinary people. Even as a cultivator, if I hadn’t seen with my own eyes how my junior brother moves, I would never believe that he’s such a master! As an AA-level pinnacle myself, I feel truly ashamed when compared to him."
"Yes, Lin Feng is destined to be no ordinary person. I felt it the first time I met him," Zhou Yang said, understanding Brother Wang’s feelings of discontent. But oftentimes reality is just like this, you can’t compare people to one another. Like Lin Feng now, it’s impossible for anyone to compare with him. Someone like him is bound to do great things. Comparing yourself to him is just asking for trouble!"
"Brother Wang, you haven’t given any news in years, where did you go?" Zhou Yang thought the atmosphere was becoming a bit gloomy, constantly revolving around the topic of Lin Feng, so he changed the subject.
"Ah, don’t mention it. I went to Africa and stayed for several long years. I’ve only just come back with my junior brother and junior sister to handle some matters."
"Junior brother and junior sister?"
"Yes, the junior brother is Lin Feng, and the junior sister is Chu Meng."
"Who is Chu Meng?"
"The former Sect Leader of Cloud Fund. But now there’s trouble, and my junior brother went to Africa specifically for her."
...
Wang Anjun and Zhou Yang started chatting about everything under the sky, drinking and reminiscing about the brotherhood they hadn’t shared in many years. However, both of them were still internally astonished by Lin Feng’s abilities. Through just one conversation, they could taste the level of Lin Feng’s current strength in each other’s words. People like him are not meant to remain obscure. It’s just like that saying, "When the storm arrives, he will transform into a dragon!"
As time passed, the two became increasingly cheerful in their conversation, sharing the interesting things that had happened over the past few years.
...
Meanwhile, Ding Wan’er was feeling very agitated. With no other options, she decided to call Sister Leng, planning to find a nice hotel near the school to chat and eat, hoping to alleviate her restlessness.
"Sister Leng, what are you up to? Shall we have lunch together?" Ding Wan’er dialed the phone and checked her watch; Leng Mei probably hadn’t had lunch yet.
"Girl Ding, what’s this? You want to treat me to a meal?" Leng Mei found it strange to receive a call from Ding Wan’er out of the blue, inviting her to lunch. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was amiss.
But ever since Lin Feng left, I have not been at peace, always feeling inexplicably panicked and irritable. I’ve been enduring it all alone in silence. It’s such a peculiar feeling. I never felt this way when Lin Feng was around. It was only after he left that I realized I’d become like this, and I really don’t understand why."
However, Girl Ding’s suggestion was appealing and exactly what I wanted. I had been planning to call her myself, but she beat me to it. This was a perfect opportunity to have a good chat, which I figured would probably improve my mood.
"Nothing much, just that eating alone feels dull, and I’m not too busy today. So I thought I’d call you up, Sister Leng, and see if you wanted to join me for lunch." Ding Wan’er answered quite naturally, though she was still feeling incredibly agitated on the inside because Lin Feng had left Yingbo University several days before, and she had no idea what had happened or if he was in any danger.
"Alright, we haven’t gotten together in a while, so let’s have a good meal today. Where should we go?" Upon hearing Ding Wan’er’s words, Leng Mei agreed, although she still felt that Girl Ding was acting a bit unusual. She couldn’t quite put her finger on why, but it was an indescribable feeling.
"How about the Jiangnan Fish Mansion not far from the school gate? It’s close to the school and more convenient."
"Okay, that’s the place. I’ll tidy up and head over."
"See you in a bit."
"See you in a bit!"
...
Jiangnan Fish Mansion was right across from the main gate of Yingbo University, considered a mid-to-high-end restaurant. Leng Mei and Ding Wan’er had specially chosen a private room that offered a view of the street. They casually ordered some of the restaurant’s signature dishes and chatted while eating and sipping on tea.
"Sister Leng, after the new year, we haven’t really had a meal together, have we?" Ding Wan’er casually brought up a topic. Not mentioning it, she hadn’t realized that indeed they hadn’t dined together since the new year.
"Yeah, after the new year, we’ve both been busy with our own things, not having the time to get together for a meal." Hearing Ding Wan’er’s comment, Leng Mei felt a wave of emotion. Their usual work kept them so busy—Ding Wan’er and she, one serving as Dean and the other as Chancellor, had their energy completely taken up by their duties, leaving no time to think about sharing a meal.
"By the way, Sister Leng, do you know where Lin Feng went? I haven’t seen him for many days now." Eventually, Ding Wan’er couldn’t hold back her inquiry because her mind these days was entirely filled with Lin Feng, with the way he used to take care of her, with all his shining qualities. Her heart was now in complete disarray, a feeling she had never experienced before. Especially at the beginning of the term, when she saw a girl confess to Lin Feng, her heart became even more flustered.
Lin Feng’s presence in school had always given her a sense of stability, driving her to and from work every day. Although she never said much to Lin Feng, she always felt indescribably safe in his company. But now, Lin Feng had suddenly mentioned he was going abroad and vanished without a trace. A single phone call and he was gone, disappearing for days on end without so much as another call, something that had never happened before.
She knew that he often had matters to attend to and would disappear occasionally, but that was at most for a couple of days. Moreover, this time was different; he had gone abroad to handle some affairs, and she could tell from his phone call that he was in a great hurry. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have called her only once. She couldn’t fathom what could make the always composed Lin Feng so anxious to go abroad.
She also didn’t know if Lin Feng could be in any danger abroad. For some reason, her heart was restless, as if constantly fearing that Lin Feng might encounter some peril. This anxiety had tormented her for several days, and until today, she couldn’t bear it any longer and asked Sister Leng to come out and chat, hoping to distract herself from the worry.
"I...I only know that he’s gone abroad, nothing more. I thought he had told you what he was going to do." Leng Mei was momentarily stunned by Ding Wan’er’s words. She too had been thinking of Lin Feng, and it never occurred to her that Ding Wan’er wanted to meet for dinner to discuss Lin Feng, catching her completely off guard and almost slipping up in her response.
Listening to Girl Ding, something seemed off. It was unmistakably clear that she was anxious about Lin Feng, something she had never been before. Girl Ding had never cared about any man before, yet now she was anxious about Lin Feng. No wonder there had always been this subtle feeling that Ding Wan’er had feelings for Lin Feng. It looked like her suspicions were true.
She hadn’t expected Lin Feng to leave in such a hurry, becoming incommunicado for so many days. Ding Wan’er’s call was more a sign of her losing her patience than wanting to know how Lin Feng was really doing.
But Lin Feng had indeed left in a rush, calling her only when he was already at the airport. It was not like Lin Feng to act so hastily, and she was very curious as to what could make him so urgent. However, at that time, it wasn’t possible to ask Lin Feng about it. If Lin Feng wanted to talk, he would have, so his silence must have had its reasons.
It wasn’t just Girl Ding who was desperate to know about Lin Feng. Wasn’t she the same? During these days Lin Feng was away, whenever she filled in for him in teaching French, all their shared moments came rushing back, replaying over and over in her mind like a movie, leaving her distracted the whole time. It was only during Lin Feng’s absence that she realized how important he had become to her.
"That’s what he told me too, just that he was going abroad on business," Ding Wan’er replied upon hearing that even Leng Mei didn’t know what Lin Feng was up to, feeling utterly helpless. She had come to Sister Leng with a glimmer of hope, but now even Sister Leng had no idea what Lin Feng was engaged in. Despite that, Wan’er couldn’t shake off the persistent unease, as if anticipating bad news.
"Sister Leng, how is Grandpa Leng doing with his health now?" Given they were clueless about Lin Feng’s specifics, Ding Wan’er felt it pointless to dwell on the subject with Leng Mei and thus deliberately shifted the conversation.
"Grandpa’s recovery is going quite well; my father and I visited him before school started. He’s very robust now. How is Grandpa Ding? Is Grandpa Qian still around?" When Ding Wan’er asked about her grandfather’s condition, Leng Mei quickly answered, realizing Ding Wan’er was intentionally changing the subject, but going along with it was the only way to lighten the mood and enable them to finish their meal.
