Chapter 252: Just Can’t Help It!
Chapter 252: Just Can’t Help It!
"Is there anything else? I wouldn’t have thought of it if you hadn’t mentioned the machinery. What the hell, why did it have to break down now and not earlier or later? Have pigs kicked your brains in? Don’t you know you need to take care of the machinery? Now that it’s broken, how long will it take to fix it? You bunch of good-for-nothings who screw things up more than you fix, do you realize what I need most now is time? Can we afford to keep delaying like this? Do you have any idea how big the business deal I’m working on is? You’re a bunch of dumb pigs!"
Swearing wasn’t satisfying enough, so Bi Huihuang, in a fit of anger, hurled his cigar at Li Dahe, and then without forgetting, grabbed a teacup from the conference table and threw it at him too.
"Chairman, whatever you say, we’ll do. Please, calm down. Getting so angry isn’t good for your health," Li Dahe dodged the cigar and the teacup thrown by Bi Huihuang. He knew Bi Huihuang was truly furious today, having worked with him for so long without ever seeing him this angry. But the current situation in Lin Family Village was indeed very troublesome; there was no way to break through with hundreds of people blocking the way. A forced entry could be made, and injuries didn’t matter, but if things got chaotic and someone got killed, that would be a big problem!
"Chairman, just tell us what to do and we’ll do it without question."
"We will definitely do as you say."
"This time, we won’t cut any corners."
...
Seeing that Li Dahe had already spoken, the members of the demolition team immediately nodded in agreement. No one wanted to be the target of the chairman’s rage at this point. With the captain leading, it was safer to just discreetly follow behind him rather than risk getting scolded by speaking up.
"You talk a good game now, and you said the same thing last time, but when it comes down to it, you still come crawling back! You’re making all these guarantees; what’s the point if you don’t keep your word!" Bi Huihuang was berating them outwardly, but inside he was considering how to handle the situation in Lin Family Village. After all, wasting time there, and he was not just short on time, Young Master Wang would truly make life unbearable for him.
"For ****’s sake, you’re as dumb as pigs. I have to tell you guys how to do such a thing? If being soft doesn’t work then be tough, and if being tough doesn’t work, then play dirty. Tonight, I want you all to go back to Lin Family Village and set it on fire. Then use a megaphone to round everyone up. That way, you don’t have to worry about killing anyone, nor about getting specifically investigated. You can all do that, right?"
Looking at the expressions on the demolition team’s faces, Bi Huihuang understood what they were thinking. He had come up with this method after careful thought—it was a quick way to burn down the houses without causing too much trouble, and most importantly, it was fast! And he really didn’t have the time to mess around anymore.
"Ah? Set a fire?"
"Set a fire..."
"Fire..."
...
The members of the demolition team were shocked at Bi Huihuang’s words. They couldn’t believe the chairman would come up with such an idea—it was as if he wanted to turn Lin Family Village into ashes and avoid the hassle of demolition entirely. Indeed, it was a good plan, but arson was a serious crime; if they got caught, it would be bad! Thinking this, fear crept in among the members who depended on their jobs to support their families. What if something went wrong? What would they do about their families?
"Chairman, arson is a serious crime."
"Yeah, I can’t afford to get in trouble; my whole family depends on me."
"Chairman, my child is just over a year old!"
...
A few members started to plead with Bi Huihuang, hoping he would consider another method. The charge of arson was too severe. They wouldn’t hesitate to rough someone up under normal circumstances—breaking an arm or a leg—but arson was another level of seriousness. What if there were any accidents, if someone died, that would be a disaster.
"Damn it, do I really need to teach you this ****? Who told you to go about setting a fire openly, letting everyone know it was you, huh? That’d be ****ing insane. Can’t you sneak in and make it look like an accidental fire? Are you capable of that? Calling you dumb as pigs might even be an understatement!" Hearing their concerns, Bi Huihuang grew increasingly frustrated. These people were unbearably stupid. Who the hell would openly go set a fire and inform others that they were the ones who did it? That would be crazy!
"Alright, all of you, **** off now. Remember, if there’s no progress by tonight, don’t bother showing up tomorrow. You can’t even handle this trivial matter, what ****ing use are you!" Bi Huihuang waved them away, shooing Li Dahe and his group out. He sat back down, lit another cigar, and took couple of fierce drags while pondering how to proceed with future matters.
"Goodbye, Chairman."
"Goodbye, Chairman."
"Goodbye, Chairman."
...
Everyone greeted Bi Huihuang and then quickly left the conference room. Under the leadership of Li Dahe, they vanished into the night.
...
In the middle of the night, Li Dahe led his men back to Lin Family Village. They got out of their cars two miles from the village and slowly moved in, being careful not to stir the dogs into barking—how else could they set the fire unnoticed?
At the same time, Lin Feng, who had been lying in bed in the ancestral home, opened his eyes. He saw that his suspicions were correct; these people wouldn’t be satisfied until they’d torn down Lin Family Village. He hadn’t expected them to return so soon that night, but since they were here, surely no good would come of it. He decided to take care of them once and for all, to prevent this incessant trouble. With that thought, he quietly got out of bed and disappeared into the room.
Li Dahe and his men tiptoed to the edge of the village with gasoline. They didn’t dare move forward since they could see people on night patrol inside. They were there to secretly start a fire; they couldn’t let themselves be seen. With no choice, the group crouched behind a mound of earth, timing the patrol’s rounds to avoid detection when they set the fire.
They huddled by the dirt mound at the village entrance for over an hour before confirming the night watch rotated every half an hour. In the frigid winter air, everyone was shivering. As soon as the patrol passed, they crept into the village, doused a few adjacent houses with gasoline, and prepared to light the fire and escape quickly.
At that moment, Lin Feng, seeing the group intently splashing gasoline, felt a surge of anger. If they managed to ignite the fire, the whole Lin Family Village would be gone. All the houses were made of solid wood, and a fire would leave no hope for rescue. The villagers were still asleep; if anyone failed to wake up and got burned alive, the situation would be disastrous.
He had intended to deal with them directly, but then thought better of it. There were too many people in the village, and it wasn’t worth causing them trouble. Besides, startling everyone in the dead of night wouldn’t be right—better to teach these intruders a lesson and let them slink away. With that in mind, Lin Feng quietly appeared behind the group and casually laid a hand on one man’s shoulder.
Xiao Wang, standing at the end of the line, felt a hand on his shoulder and was momentarily startled but didn’t think much of it, assuming someone was helping him find his footing in the dark. However, as Xiao Wang prepared to step forward, he realized he was the last one in line—there was no one behind him. Whose hand was it?
"Crack!"
While Xiao Wang was still dazed, Lin Feng crushed his bones. Seeing the warning had been delivered, Lin Feng vanished like a gust of wind into the night, undetected by anyone under the cover of darkness.
"Ah..."
An intense and sudden pain in his shoulder made Xiao Wang cry out loud. The pain was unbearable, beyond human tolerance.
"What the **** are you screaming for!" Hearing Xiao Wang’s scream, the two people nearby reacted swiftly, clamping a hand over his mouth and scolding him in a whisper. In the middle of the night, Xiao Wang’s cry was piercingly loud. Even though they quickly muffled him, dog barking could still be heard, causing the two men to break out in a cold sweat. If they awakened the villagers, and they discovered the plan to set the fire, the whole group might be done for.
"Do you **** want to get us all killed? Why the hell would you holler at a time like this!"
"Exactly, do you **** want all of us to die with you? Why scream at such a critical moment?"
The two men covering Xiao Wang’s mouth lowered their voices and scolded him. They were about to set fire in the village—yelling like that could be deadly. If it alerted the villagers to their fire-setting intentions, they wouldn’t even know how they died.
Xiao Wang, with his mouth covered by the two men, was sweating profusely in pain and unable to shout. Left with no option, he weakly gestured with his other hand to show his situation—his arm was in excruciating pain, unlike any he had felt before, beyond words to describe!
It was only then that Xiao Wang still didn’t understand what had happened; how could his arm bone have been crushed by a mere touch? It was too incredible. Trying to move his arm, he was shocked to find it immobile, indicating a likely dislocation of the joint.
What the **** is going on? I’ve demolished so many houses with Captain Li without incident. Why did my arm have to end up like this today? It was just a touch; how could the joint be dislocated? And I was the last one, meaning it wasn’t one of the demolition team who did this. But why so much pain? It was simply unbearable!
