Chapter 1279 - 1277: Formation Activation
Chapter 1279 - 1277: Formation Activation
"Lin Feng, aren’t you afraid of speaking too big and getting struck by the wind? Do you even comprehend the power of these mechs I have? Let’s not talk about the others—my Exterminator Mech alone is an unmatched existence in this world. Even if a missile hits it, it’s not a big deal. And then there’s my God Slayer Mech—yet you dare say my mechs are worthless? Seems like if I don’t act, you won’t learn your lesson."
Edward was genuinely furious now. He had no desire to continue speaking to Lin Feng; talking to a madman was utterly futile. After delivering his words, Edward immediately waved his hand, preparing to order the mechs he brought to attack.
But before his gesture was complete, Lin Feng’s voice rang out.
"Who dies is still uncertain. Since you’ve arrived, you might as well stay." Lin Feng calmly uttered these words, his tone soft yet clear to everyone. As soon as he spoke, he lightly stomped his foot on the ground, and the area underwent a colossal, earth-shattering transformation.
Instantly, the dazzling and lively Tianhai City vanished from view. Even the moon in the sky abruptly disappeared, and Yingbo University’s nearby student dormitories vanished completely as well. Taking their place was an endless stretch of wilderness, as if they had entered an alternate space. The sudden shift left everyone stunned, their minds blank, unable to comprehend what had just happened.
What... what is going on?
This... how is this possible?
My God, this is...
...
The floating mechs suspended in the air gazed at the altered environment, finding it incredibly hard to believe it was real. How could such a vast landscape change in a blink of an eye? It was simply too unbelievable. Jack, standing behind Lin Feng, gazed at the scene in pure shock, turning as rigid as a wooden figure. He couldn’t fathom such a massive switch—right between two mountains, everything had simply vanished. No rational person could believe what had just unfolded before them.
This is...
Edward was equally stunned at this moment. He had never imagined such a scenario could occur. What had Lin Feng done? Had he transported them to another space?
No... impossible! If Lin Feng could truly shift space, then Lin Feng was no human—he would be God!
Edward briefly felt panic, but quickly stabilized himself. He reminded himself it had to be Lin Feng’s trickery. However, how Lin Feng achieved this eluded him completely. Unable to contain his curiosity, he fixed his gaze on Lin Feng, desperate to unravel the mystery of what Lin Feng had done to them.
"Mere illusion techniques? You think you can deceive me? How ridiculous! Do you truly believe something like this will allow you to stand against me? I know everything about you—you’re no match for me. Hand Jack over, then kill yourself to apologize, and I may spare the others. Otherwise, don’t blame me for being merciless."
Lin Feng, seeing how Edward still clung to his arrogance, shook his head lightly and laughed softly. Then, he calmly replied, "You’re welcome to try."
With those words, Lin Feng stood still, looking at Edward. He had already arranged multiple layers of formations here, all interlinked and far beyond the comprehension of ordinary individuals. Winning without direct combat was the ultimate strategy; from the start, Lin Feng had no intention of dealing with Edward personally but instead planned to make Edward’s team destroy themselves.
"Then I’m not holding back! I’ll show you the power of technology—I’ll crush you so-called cultivators with my invincible mechs!" Edward’s face turned cold as he snapped at Lin Feng.
After his cold declaration, Edward waved his hand, signaling the mechs behind him to charge at Lin Feng!
To Edward, an illusion was always just an illusion. Being so close to Lin Feng, he believed flying over and eliminating Lin Feng along with his companions to retrieve Jack would be straightforward enough. But what he did not anticipate was that even after flying for around two or three minutes, Lin Feng was still standing not far from them!
How is this possible?
Edward now realized something wasn’t right. Under normal circumstances, a distance this short should take mere seconds to close in. Yet now, after all this time, they hadn’t advanced at all—a clear indication that something was wrong!
Realizing this, Edward immediately shouted into his comm system, "Everyone scatter, head in different directions!"
Edward’s plan was simple: abruptly change their routes, scattering the mechs in different directions. Surely this would allow at least a few mechs to break free from the illusion array. If even a handful escaped, it would be enough to kill Lin Feng. However, what happened next went entirely against his expectations.
Though Edward issued the order, the strange part was that there was no response. Every mech remained clustered around him as though they hadn’t heard him at all. This situation left Edward baffled; his crew would never defy his commands. The only explanation was that the communication devices had been severely disrupted, rendering all mech coordination via technology useless.
Edward turned back to look at Lin Feng, utterly bewildered. How on earth had Lin Feng managed to disable their communication systems? The thought of Lin Feng carrying out such a feat was beyond understanding. Could Lin Feng still be considered human after pulling such an inconceivable stunt?
Despite the mounting frustration, Edward knew retreat was no longer an option. Determined, he resolutely issued new orders through the loudspeakers: "Everyone spread out! Anyone who escapes the illusion realm must kill Lin Feng!"
Edward was done stalling. He refused to believe Lin Feng’s illusion could hold back so many mechs. Spreading them individually ensured at least a few would break free—and once they broke free, Lin Feng would be annihilated.
To their credit, the mech operators showed astounding skill and discipline. With Edward’s command, the remaining 180 mechs immediately surged into different directions, each targeting an area to escape...
Old Monster and the others stood calmly beside Lin Feng, not eager to act. While they could remain composed, Jack could not—his anxiety grew overwhelming. If even one or two mechs managed to break free, they’d be faced with a crisis!
Feeling the urgency, Jack quickly urged Lin Feng, "Lin Feng, this is... too dangerous. We should leave now. If they break through, we won’t even have time to run!"
Jack’s words were straightforward—he only cared about survival. He was far too familiar with the destructive power of the mechs and couldn’t fathom how Lin Feng remained so calm in the face of such overwhelming odds. To Jack, these mechs were simply beyond human capability.
Lin Feng cast a glance at the panicked Jack and merely smiled. The Old Monster and others around him also chuckled, thinking Jack was utterly fascinating. To calm Jack down, Old Monster spoke up, "There’s no need to panic. Just watch—you’ll witness something today that will change how you see the world."
After delivering his cryptic remark, Old Monster ignored Jack and joined the others in watching the mechs flounder helplessly within the illusion array. Jack, left standing alone, couldn’t understand what Old Monster meant. Change his worldview? These mechs were invincible—even cultivators couldn’t resist them!
"Boom!"
Right then, a deafening explosion burst forth. A massive fiery blast sent two mechs tumbling uncontrollably, nearly crashing to the ground. Jack stared in absolute confusion, unable to figure out why the mechs were exploding on their own. What was happening?
Before he could draw any conclusions, one explosion after another erupted.
"Boom! Boom, boom, boom..."
Within the array, the mechs inexplicably began attacking one another. Their targets were not external enemies but their own allies. Some mechs were surrounded and assaulted simultaneously by others, eventually bursting into plumes of smoke and falling from the sky.
Witnessing this chaos left Jack completely dumbstruck. He couldn’t comprehend how such state-of-the-art mechs ended up fighting themselves. Did their sophisticated IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) systems fail? It was inconceivable! These systems were designed precisely to avoid friendly fire, and yet here they were, annihilating each other with terrifying precision.
Jack had no way of knowing that the IFF systems had been scrambled the moment the mechs entered the illusion array. Not only had their communication systems been jammed, but the very technology they relied on was now twisted against them.
What is going on...
Why can’t they escape?
I could swear I was targeting Lin Feng—how did it turn into one of us attacking me instead?
...
The mech pilots overhead were no less dumbfounded, grappling with the impossibility of their predicament. They had just been running outward, yet in a blink, they found themselves back to square one. The scenario violated all common physical principles—as though the light around them had been distorted, or reality had shifted. Earlier they had clearly seen Lin Feng and fired upon him, but now, to their horror, the ’enemy’ turned out to be their own comrades.
Faced with this inexplicable conundrum, the pilots found themselves paralyzed. Attacking was wrong, holding back was wrong; their IFF failed, and communication was severed. They were lost in a warped sense of reality, seeing everything incorrectly, their frustration reaching new heights.
Curse it all—how could this happen?
Edward, watching the spectacle unfold, was seething with rage. Someone had recklessly deployed explosives, throwing everything into chaos. If those bombs had harmed Lin Feng’s group, it would’ve been acceptable, but instead, they were devastating his own forces. This was sheer madness!
