Chapter 478: Like a Peasant
Chapter 478: Like a Peasant
Thorian Blackvale stood right in front of a massive teleportation gate, built within the Blackvale royal palace. This could only be used in emergencies or to host high-level guests. Or for the members of the royal family to traverse a great distance to the other great kingdoms at once.
Not long after someone his age, with an exquisite, glowing, raccoon-like beast on his shoulders, came out of the gate, his face expressionless, his gaze calculating, donning an extravagant set of attire that screamed royalty.
Thorian greeted, "Welcome, Prince Enrick."
Enrick Samartan showed a polite smile, "Nice to see you again, Prince Thorian. I hope you’re doing well."
Thorian nodded, "Please come with me...."
He guided the prince of Samartan to a luxurious guest room in his palace. The aesthetics of the Blackvale royal palace were very different from those of Suncrest; it was almost mystical in nature, which Enrick observed with great attention.
Eventually, when the two of them were alone, they peeled off their princely formality, their postures and expressions somewhat relaxed. Enrick sighed, "So, you’re quite well, I guess...Thorian."
Thorian nodded, sitting opposite on the opposite couch, "Much better than before, but trouble remains. Being one of the few survivors in the academy attack did give me a lot of leverage and favor from my father, though my older brothers are hell-bent on pushing the blame for why I wasn’t able to save more individuals from my kingdom."
Enrick said through displeasure, "The same goes for me, but even worse, because from Samartan, I was the only one to survive, but from Blackvale, apart from you, at least there is also Jaden who survived."
Thorian nodded, "But in the end, personally, it did bring us more benefit in the end, did it not?"
Enrick agreed, "Perhaps the most notable thing we gained from this harrowing experience was our increased strength. And unlike our brothers, who are constantly trying to downplay us. The Kings know its significance. How near impossible that task in itself was...."
Thorian nodded reluctantly; the very thought of it left a permanent trauma hidden deep inside of him. Though, as Enrick stated, he had experienced explosive growth and gained influence and favor with his father, the king.
This brought both of them much closer to the title of crown prince, which they previously did not have much hope of attaining, especially given the great influence their older siblings already possessed, something they could not circumvent, no matter what.
More than that, those who fought alongside each other in that death battle against the army of undead had formed somewhat close ties with one another. Especially, Thorian, Enrick, and Jaden, these three who were not of the Suncrest, now had a much greater friendship. Through which they could work together.
For their political and personal benefits.
The very reason why Enrick was here. The prince of Samartan shifted the topic, "So, Axel Nomrad will be coming to this royal palace?"
Another move these two were making together was the procuring of strong rune tools for the upcoming war. Unfortunately, neither the Kingdom of Blackvale nor Samartan possessed any specialized forces like those of the Vanelis, Vex, or Nomrad families, with a rich heritage of craftsmanship.
It’s not that there were none, but they couldn’t compare in quality to the rune tools of Axel Nomrad or the Alchemical products made by the Vanelis family. They had requested a deal of Alchemical products from Vyra, but she firmly rejected it.
They expected the same rejection from Axel Nomrad, but, strangely, the guy actually agreed to meet them and requested to do so in Blackvale.
Thorian shook his head. "Actually, I received another letter not long ago. He moved the place elsewhere."
"Where?" asked Enrick.
"Redmar family mansion, Jaden’s family..." said Thorian.
Enrick was a bit surprised, "Could it be this guy has some ties with Jaden? Why didn’t you tell me this sooner?"
Thorian denied, "He doesn’t have any ties with Jaden, I’ve talked to him...."
Enrick asked, leaning forward, "Then, why?"
Thorian sighed, "The obvious reason could be because he is just being cautious. After all, this wouldn’t be good for him. If the Suncrest royal family found out that Axel Nomrad is secretly selling rune tools to Blackvale and Samartan."
He stood up and added, "But, I don’t know.... let’s go to the Redmar mansion. I think it’s better to discuss this with Jaden present, since he’s much sharper than the two of us on these matters. Maybe he could figure out a clue."
Enrick nodded reluctantly, following behind Thorian, as they used the royal teleportation gate again, arriving exactly in the city of the region ruled by the Redmar family.
But this time, they were not wearing flashy clothes that screamed of their royal status, but rather hid their identity so that no one else would know that these two had actually come here. It didn’t take long for Jaden himself to arrive in person to meet the two of them.
He instantly recognized the two princes and smiled, as he gave a mocking bow, "It’s an Honor, your royal highnesses."
The expression on the faces of the two princes instantly turned sour. Enrick said in displeasure, "Can you, for once at least, try to be polite?"
Jaden pretended not to understand, "What could your highnesses be talking about?"
Thorian put a hand on his face and sighed, "Okay, Jaden, just stop it...."
Jaden chuckled, leading the two princes into his mansion through a secret path. The prince of Samartan frowned. "I can’t believe we have to act like a group of thieves, hiding and moving like rats."
Jaden sneered, "Then your highness can go out and shout for the peasants to kneel, and bask in that sight of endless glory."
Thorian spat a mouthful of imaginary blood at that snarky comment. Meanwhile, Enrick was furious, "YOU bastard!!!"
Jaden chuckled, "Interesting, I did not know the mighty prince of Samartan could curse akin to a peasant...."
