Chapter 264: The Little Thing Confessed
Chapter 264: The Little Thing Confessed
Gu Qianxi was going mad. Since when had his Keke become so sharp-tongued, and even started contemplating life?Wasn’t she always his carefree little angel? He had done everything in his power to preserve her innocence and simplicity.
But now she was telling him that she wanted to throw away everything he had protected for her. She wanted to grow up and be independent.
His Keke wanted to leap out of the safe cocoon he had meticulously crafted and live a life of her own.
To Gu Qianxi, this felt like the sky was falling.
The world had suddenly turned unbearably dark for him to comprehend.
"Keke, listen to me..."
"I won’t listen anymore, Uncle. I’m leaving with just this suitcase. Inside are a few of my clothes and some things I want to take with me!" Tong Keke hurriedly shoved the last few pieces of clothing into the suitcase, snapped it shut, and stood up to leave.
"Keke, don’t leave so hastily. Uncle won’t let you leave like this. You’re still so young. Do you really think the world is as kind as it appears in fairy tales? No, you don’t understand yet. This world is cruel, full of danger and malice. You’re still young, just eighteen years old. You can stay, finish college first, and then go out to experience life. Right now, if you leave, I won’t be at ease." Gu Qianxi suddenly felt like his persuasive skills were failing him; his tongue was tied, and he didn’t know what to say to convince this little girl to stay.
Tong Keke’s heart ached, but she resolutely kept walking toward the door.
"Tong Keke, stop right there!" Gu Qianxi panicked and chased after her, his tall figure moving to block her escape at the door. He stood in front of her, refusing to let her pass: "Are you refusing to listen to me anymore, Keke? Are you rebelling? I forbid you from moving out! Give me the suitcase."
"No! Once I decide on something, I will do it!" Tong Keke’s little face was filled with resolve, her small hands gripping the suitcase’s handle tightly, refusing to let go.
"Keke, tell me what you’re not happy about with your uncle. I’ll change, I promise—are you unhappy because I’m looking for a girlfriend? Fine, I promise you, I won’t date anyone until you graduate college..."
"But after I graduate, you’ll still find someone. Uncle, please let me go..." Tong Keke, who hadn’t cried until now, suddenly had her eyes rimmed with red. She looked on the verge of tears.
Gu Qianxi’s heart was in complete chaos. He had never felt this kind of panic and helplessness before. What was happening to him? Was he sick?
Perhaps it was an illness with no cure.
"I won’t let you go. No matter what you say, I can’t let you leave. I am your guardian—I have a responsibility to you." Gu Qianxi finally found a solid justification. Yes, he was her guardian; he had every reason to forbid her from leaving.
Tong Keke listened to his words, and her heart twisted in even deeper pain. Suddenly, she set her suitcase down, covered her face with her hands, and tears started slipping through her fingers.
"Uncle, let me be honest with you. The reason I want to move out isn’t because I’m eager to live alone. It’s that I’m scared—I’m scared because I’ve fallen in love with you. Do you understand? I’m afraid that if I stay with you, I’ll fall even deeper." Her tiny hands dropped away, revealing a tear-streaked face as delicate as flowers bearing the weight of a storm. Her words struck Gu Qianxi’s heart like a bolt of lightning.
His handsome features instantly froze, and his deep, narrow eyes widened the moment he heard her confession.
Tong Keke suddenly felt overwhelming fear and unease, as though her darkest, most shameful thoughts had been exposed under the scorching light of the sun.
But now that she had said it, she had no choice but to keep speaking. She summoned all her courage to let this man know just how helpless, nervous, and scared she felt.
