Chapter 39 : Pinky Promise
Chapter 39 : Pinky Promise
Patunasankus was drenched in sweat.
She didn't know why Evelyn would do such strange things.
She didn't know why Evelyn was sniffing her scent.
She especially didn't know why Evelyn would show such a blissful smile.
For a moment, the evil dragon stood there, as flustered as the dandelion girl of the past. Witnessing such intimate behavior filled with such novel emotions shocked Patunasankus, and the bold actions made her involuntarily shy.
This strange feeling made the evil dragon feel very insecure.
Patunasankus didn't know why she would actually be so afraid of a human.
The evil dragon had never had such an experience, not even once.
Fear was usually a gift she bestowed upon other beings, directly vaporizing enemies in destructive dragon flames.
Patunasankus could have roasted Evelyn to charcoal on the spot, but the other party was Latifa's close friend after all.
If the evil dragon really did that, someone would definitely be unhappy.
No, no, that wouldn't do at all.
Patunasankus didn't want to become a dragon hated by Latifa—she didn't want that, never wanted that.
Since things had come to this, what else could she do?
Run away first.

A light rain began falling over Silver City.
The wind wasn't strong, gently sweeping by, immediately transforming into pattering rain sounds, into denser ripples on the river, into thicker mud on the roads.
An elegant carriage stopped on the road. Loranhir and Elaphia had already prepared the carriage early. Now with an extra pair of hands, their work was much easier. Of course, the evil dragon always just watched them work.
Eating bitter hardships wasn't the evil dragon's habit—she preferred giving others bitter medicine to swallow.
"Must you leave in such a hurry?" The Duchess stood at the mansion's entrance, holding an umbrella. She reluctantly took Patunasankus's arm. "Won't you stay a few more days?"
"No, no." Patunasankus politely declined.
She felt that staying longer would lead to very bad things happening, and these worries were all about a girl named Evelyn.
Before things she couldn't handle occurred, it was better to pick the right time and run.
"Thank you for the Duchess's kindness, but I'm also in a hurry to return to the royal capital." Patunasankus casually made up a lie.
Royal capital? What royal capital?
The evil dragon just wanted to leave here quickly.
She had never been to the royal capital in her life...
Well, correction.
The evil dragon had been there once, but that one time was purely when she went specifically to steal the princess, burned it clean, and had a great time killing.
When it came to the words "royal capital," Patunasankus could only think of a sea of flames.
Rolling smoke, panicked crowds, defeated and humiliated royal strongmen, evil dragon's blazing fire spewing shower-like sparks wave after wave surging toward the sky, illuminating the sky for miles around the royal capital.
All burned up.
Hmm... at least it was like that on the day she stole the princess.
Anyway, for the evil dragon, the human royal capital in her memory was always burned up.
She didn't know what it had been rebuilt into over these years.
"Oh, I understand. You must miss Princess Yanis."
The Duchess said with a smile.
"How wonderful. You two were such a good pair of sisters before. Although I heard you had some discord in the past, after all these years you should reconcile."
The Duchess let go and hugged Patunasankus.
"Since Your Highness misses your sister so much, how could I be so heartless as to keep Your Highness here for several more days?"
Yanis? Who's that?
...Completely don't know her.
This suddenly appearing name made Patunasankus think for quite a while.
She vaguely remembered this name, but the evil dragon forgot too many things every day. She couldn't remember for the moment, so she could only nod politely but awkwardly.
Patunasankus just took it as that's how things were. Anyway, she would never return to Silver City in the future, much less go to any royal capital.
When the time came, she'd just take a stroll through Taurant, figure out what this so-called Grand Duke Dreka wanted to do, then burn the entire city and the Grand Duke to ash before returning to her lair to continue being her evil dragon.
Just that simple, and there wouldn't be any troublesome matters.
"Well then, farewell." Patunasankus got up and opened her umbrella, walking unsteadily toward the carriage.
At the end of the road was dim, lightless wilderness. When opening the carriage door, she looked back.
Patunasankus saw Evelyn standing quietly in the wind and rain at the mansion entrance, fallen flowers and water flowing together at her feet.
In the misty dusk, wearing a pure white dress, Evelyn quietly watched the dandelion girl standing peacefully under the roses.
Time seemed to run aground here. The girl simply looked at her once, and a flower quietly bloomed in Evelyn's heart.
"Latifa, are you leaving?" Evelyn's voice carried some reluctance.
Patunasankus thought about it and ultimately stopped.
"There are some matters to handle in the royal capital," she explained.
"Then we'll meet again later, right?"
For a moment, Patunasankus didn't know who Evelyn was asking—was she asking her, or asking Latifa?
If it was the latter.
Never again.
But somehow Patunasankus still nodded.
"Pinky promise, just like when we were little. Those who break promises must swallow a thousand needles."
Evelyn silently extended her little finger, with an attitude of "if you don't agree, I won't let you leave."
"It's a promise."
Having no choice, Patunasankus also extended her little finger and hooked it with Evelyn's.
"Yes, it's a promise." The evil dragon had already prepared to break the promise.
Although she was a dragon who valued commitments, the one Evelyn wanted to make a pinky promise with was Latifa, so there was nothing she could do about it.
Swallow needles then—anyway, the evil dragon didn't care.

The carriage wheels slowly turned, and the group quickly disappeared from everyone's sight.
"Royal capital... royal capital..." Evelyn muttered as she watched the departing carriage.
Suddenly she was struck as if by lightning, and the hazy memories once covered by curses finally became completely clear.
She finally remembered who had cast the spell on her.
It was a golden-haired girl sitting on a throne. Although her appearance was somewhat similar to Latifa's, her temperament was completely opposite—cold and indifferent.
Yanis Flandoya.
Latifa's biological sister.
No, she had to warn Latifa.
Evelyn was about to go alert the princess but found it was already too late. The carriage had long disappeared into the distance, leaving only rows of muddy tracks.
She instinctively wanted to chase after them but realized that in her current weakened state, pursuing them would ultimately be futile and might even be a burden.
Evelyn thought of the inscription-grade mage staff she had neglected for so long.
It was time to pick it up again.

Unnoticed in the clouds, a wyvern's shadow flickered. It circled above Silver City for a while, then flew away in a leisurely manner.
