Chapter 57: Returning to School, Classmates in Awe
After standing at the post and running a bit, Lin Mo, drenched in sweat, went to have breakfast and packed two more portions to bring back. Although he had only exercised for a little more than half an hour, he still sweated quite a lot.
On the first day of practicing the Fuyang Post, although he had no idea whether his Yang energy had risen or his kidney Qi had been replenished, after sweating all over, he indeed felt quite comfortable, as if his spirit had improved.
After all, when he bought it yesterday, he already knew that training with the Fuyang Post relied on persistence. It was not something with instant results, so naturally he was not in a hurry.
What surprised him a little was unexpectedly adding Professor Mu’s contact information. He did not expect that in his final year of university, he could still get acquainted with a big figure in the school. Truly, skills never went to waste.
He had also seen some comments online, saying that college students might never know that the teachers they met in school could possibly be the only high-level figures in society they would ever come into contact with in their lives.
So when Professor Mu said she would take him to a seminar next Wednesday, he immediately agreed. Why not? He did not have classes anyway. He might as well follow along, treat it as broadening his horizons.
After all, he had been in university for several years already, yet he still did not know that being a teacher’s assistant could actually come with subsidies.
As expected, the information ordinary people could access was really too little.
Of course, it might also be that ordinary people never even had the chance to come into contact with such opportunities.
The reason Professor Mu asked Lin Mo if he wanted to temporarily be her assistant was simply because she found him pleasant to look at. Such a task could be given to anyone, and it would even let students earn some extra money.
What made her seriously ask if Lin Mo had any plans to pursue postgraduate studies, though, was indeed a matter of thought.
Many people might never know that some professors actually held special slots. Without even taking exams, one could simply study under the professor, and when the time came, receive a graduation certificate.
Big figures were sometimes just that casual. If they found you pleasing, opportunities would be thrown your way.
Back in the dormitory, Lin Mo washed his sweat-soaked workout clothes and Back Straightener, then took a shower.
Meanwhile, Sichuan Girl and Wang Chu were outside having breakfast.
“I say, Old Mo, what’s gotten into you? Why did you suddenly think of waking up early to exercise?” Seeing him come out, Wang Chu swallowed a bun and asked with a smile.
After all, they were not strangers. They had known each other for three years, and in these three years, everyone knew exactly what kind of person the other was.
Since freshman year, apart from Old Zhao, no one in their dorm had ever gotten up early to exercise. Even Old Zhao, the fitness enthusiast, had been influenced by the three of them and slacked off for a while. Not to mention Lin Mo, who never slept at night and never woke up during the day.
“Listen to yourself. Can’t I decide to work hard now? But guess who I ran into while exercising?” Lin Mo raised his eyebrows and asked.
The two looked at his expression in confusion.
“What? Don’t tell me you had a romantic encounter? Damn, you’re already living off a woman, and now you’re still having flings? What’s she like? Got a picture? Which major is she from?” Wang Chu hurriedly asked.
Lin Mo rolled his eyes at him and spat, “Hurry up and clear out the filthy thoughts in your brain. We’re seniors now, how are you still thinking about dating all day long?”
“Nonsense, you’re the one living off a woman. I’m still single, you know.” Wang Chu said matter-of-factly.
Lin Mo shook his head helplessly. “For the last time, I am not living off a woman. That’s just something a friend gave me. And today, the person I ran into was our school’s Professor Mu.”
Saying this, he explained how Professor Mu had asked him to be her temporary assistant next Wednesday.
“Looking at it that way, Wang Chu isn’t wrong. This also counts as a kind of living off someone, doesn’t it? And with subsidies too. I feel like I must’ve gone to a fake university.” Sichuan Girl sighed.
Wang Chu pulled out his phone to check. “Old Mo, this Professor Mu of ours is no simple person. She’s published multiple authoritative professional papers domestically. In her field, she’s a recognized big shot. And she even asked if you wanted to do postgraduate studies—don’t you really have any thoughts about that?”
“Come on, even if you add Old Zhao, do you see anyone in our dorm with the brains for postgraduate studies? And in higher mathematics, at that! I’ll never learn it, not in a million years!” Lin Mo spread his hands helplessly.
It was not just that he lacked the brains for it—even if he did, he would not want to. He just wanted to spend his final year honestly, get his diploma, and be done with it. Did they expect him to keep hiding in school forever?
The colorful world outside was still waiting for him to enjoy.
And even if he really wanted to pursue postgraduate studies, he would choose a relatively easy major. Why drive himself crazy with higher mathematics? Wouldn’t it be better to treat himself well instead of finding ways to suffer?
Hearing this, the other two nodded in agreement. After all, they had the same thoughts.
The three of them then discussed what kinds of tasks were involved in assisting a big shot.
“By the way, Sichuan Girl, you haven’t put on makeup today. Aren’t you going to stream or record content?”
Seeing that Sichuan Girl had no intention of putting on any makeup, Lin Mo asked.
Sichuan Girl nodded. “I’ll do it tonight. Today, our classmates are coming back. It’s not very safe to wear makeup now.”
Just like that, the three had a quiet morning. Sichuan Girl did not stir up trouble, so the dorm remained peaceful.
As time passed, people slowly began returning to the dormitory building. Before they knew it, it was already 2 p.m., and the dorm members changed clothes to go out.
Their counselor had already notified them in the group chat that the returning classmates of their major should gather in the self-media classroom.
By the time the three arrived, quite a few people were already there. Two rows of girls sat at the front, while the rest were guys. The gender ratio in their major was indeed quite skewed.
And among the girls in the first row sat Wang Chu’s goddess, Zhao Tingting. On the podium, their counselor, Jiang Tao, was already standing and waiting for them.
“Waa~~ ohhh”
As soon as the three entered, the girls in the front two rows let out surprised exclamations. Immediately, everyone in the room turned to look at them.
The sudden situation left the three stunned, frozen in place for a moment.
Finally, Counselor Jiang Tao stared at him for quite a while before speaking. “Lin Mo from Class 2?”
This major only had three classes in this year’s cohort, so the counselor naturally had some impression.
Realizing this, Lin Mo understood. It must have been his changed appearance that caused the reaction.
After all, Sichuan Girl and Wang Chu had reacted the same way. Fortunately, his looks had only become paler, and his style of dress had changed. His features remained the same—otherwise, people might have mistaken him for a stranger.
“Yes, Counselor Jiang.” Lin Mo stepped forward with a smile to greet her.
Counselor Jiang Tao was a woman in her thirties, short and slightly plump, with a kind temperament. She often made jokes, and the students generally had a good relationship with her.
“After just a few months of internship, you’ve changed quite a lot. Alright, find a seat.” Jiang Tao teased, then waved them off to quickly sit down.
Seeing this, the three hurried to the back rows, since Lin Mo did not want to be stared at continuously.
The girls in the first two rows, from their class and the other two classes, all recognized him—even if they had never spoken.
So when they saw Lin Mo’s drastic change, they began whispering among themselves.
“Alright, alright, quiet down. If you like him, go talk to him privately later. Look at how unreserved you all are. Have some restraint!” Jiang Tao knocked on the table, smiling at the girls in the front two rows.
The classroom erupted into laughter, and the atmosphere immediately grew lively.
The girls laughed especially happily, while Lin Mo kept his head down in the back row.
“Gave me a fright. Should’ve brought a mask.”
Sichuan Girl: “Show-off~”
Wang Chu: “Damn.”
