Chapter 176: Sichuan Girl: “Say Something, You Two!”
Once there were more people, there was always that one person who stood out — and for those craving a smoke, that was even more so. Everyone else was curious about his love life, but he alone couldn’t stop thinking about Tangshan.
Inside a cold drink shop behind the school, Lin Mo treated a few of them to drinks.
“Seriously, you guys are really that free? No wonder they call you senior-year veterans — no classes at all, but you don’t miss a single piece of gossip, huh?” Lin Mo looked at them, smiling helplessly.
These people had followed him and Liu Rushuang for at least an hour. If they had this much motivation when studying, they wouldn’t have ended up at just an average university. At least a 211, if not a 985!
“Mind your own business. Come on, spill it! How did you two meet, when did you make it official, how far have you developed, and tell me—why did you suddenly want to rent a place outside? Turns out you’ve got someone on the side!” Sichuan Girl waved impatiently as she spoke.
After losing so much face today, she had to win it back somehow. If Lin Mo hadn’t suddenly gotten himself a girlfriend, how could her “Lin Rushuang, Li Shiya edition” have been caught by the genuine version?
Now she even suspected that Lin Mo’s decision to rent a place had been planned long ago — clearly premeditated!
“But I have to say, your girlfriend’s really beautiful, Lin the Handsome! You’ve kept a low profile for three years, and suddenly, in senior year, you’ve turned over a new leaf — and even landed a campus-queen-level girlfriend.” Class Monitor Wang Jing smiled.
Beside her, He Xiaoyue also took out her phone and said, “Exactly! Look, it hasn’t even been that long, and your photos are already all over the campus forum. Tsk tsk tsk, look at all those likes and replies!”
Hearing that, the others hurriedly gathered around. Sure enough, they saw photos of Lin Mo and Liu Rushuang eating together in the cafeteria. There were already over a hundred comments below.
Some even had other photos of the two around campus — clearly taken by different people.
Though Liu Rushuang’s beauty drew attention, no one at this school knew her. To them, she was just a stunning stranger. Lin Mo, however, was different.
Because of the recent rescue incident, he had gained a bit of fame online. The school had even promoted it widely, and there was a campus-wide commendation.
So, his face was somewhat recognizable around school. As soon as the post went up, many people identified him right away.
【Hey? Isn’t that the Excavator Hero from our school a while back?】
【It really is! Damn, does being a hero now come with a gorgeous girlfriend? Someone go jump into the Lovers’ Lake, I wanna rescue someone too!】
【Rescue someone? Don’t make me expose your real motive.】
【Come on, he didn’t get a girlfriend for being a hero. He’s a rich second generation. If you had money, you could get a campus queen too!】
【Didn’t he already clarify that? Not rich, the watch was a gift from a friend — a high-end replica.】
【You actually believe that?】
In short, the thread was lively and only getting hotter.
“Come on, Class Monitor, how could you two also be joining in on this nonsense? And aren’t all the freshmen enrolled already? Why’s the campus forum still so active?” Lin Mo said helplessly, realizing that he’d gotten posted online just for something this trivial. So many people were too free these days.
“Why not? I’m the class monitor — can’t I gossip a bit when my classmate gets a girlfriend?” Wang Jing grinned.
He Xiaoyue chimed in, “Exactly! We’re classmates — just showing some concern. As for the forum, this is probably the last couple of days it’ll be this hot. Actually, senior students use it even more than freshmen now. We need to check school announcements and all that.
Anyway, you clearly don’t read it much. Come on, just tell us already!”
Seeing their looks, Lin Mo knew he wouldn’t escape without an explanation. So, he quickly organized his thoughts and explained Liu Rushuang’s identity.
“What? You’re not a couple? Are you kidding me? With how she’s been living at your place — if I didn’t know how you got that apartment and even helped with the move, I would’ve thought it was her house!”
Sichuan Girl was the first to protest when Lin Mo denied their relationship.
“Yeah! Who walks around holding hands if they’re not dating?” Wang Chu added. He clearly didn’t believe it either.
Wang Jing and He Xiaoyue, though they hadn’t seen any intimate gestures between them, didn’t buy it either.
From an outsider’s perspective, their interaction was that of a couple — no normal friends behaved that way.
Take Wang Jing for example. She liked Wang Chu and was always finding excuses to get close, but even so, their relationship was nowhere near as natural or comfortable as Lin Mo and Liu Rushuang’s. How could anyone believe they were “just friends”?
“Fine, think whatever you want. Just—don’t tell Yuan Jie about this, alright? Both of you, keep your mouths shut, got it?” Seeing their skeptical faces, Lin Mo gave up trying to explain and warned them seriously.
At that, the two looked at him curiously, clearly wanting an explanation.
“Yuan Jie and her… how should I put it? They’re not mortal enemies, but they’re definitely rivals. If she finds out, I won’t have a single peaceful day left.” Lin Mo gave a simple explanation.
Seeing his serious look, Wang Chu and Sichuan Girl both nodded.
Sichuan Girl: “We can keep quiet, but I want seafood buffet.”
Wang Chu: “And Tangshan!”
Wang Jing: “Get lost. Lin the Handsome, everyone who saw gets a share!”
He Xiaoyue: “Yeah, yeah! We’ll keep our mouths shut after eating, promise we won’t spread a word!”
Seeing the gleam in their eyes, Lin Mo knew there was no escaping it — he’d have to treat them. Otherwise, who knew what kind of chaos these four would stir up together.
“Fine. You guys pick the time — just let me know when.” Lin Mo nodded.
At once, the four of them cheered.
“No time like the present — let’s make it tonight! Oh, what are you all doing this afternoon? If you’re free, come to the open lecture!” Wang Jing suggested.
Lin Mo immediately exchanged a glance with Sichuan Girl and said quickly, “Nah, I’ve got something to do. You go ahead!”
“I’ve got editing to do too. Wang Chu should be free.” Sichuan Girl followed up quickly.
As both girls turned to look at him, Wang Chu blinked. “Wait, weren’t we supposed to talk to Old Mo about something?”
Lin Mo: …
Sichuan Girl: …
Some people were truly hopeless. Exhausting.
Seeing her roommate’s disappointment, He Xiaoyue quickly spoke up, “Oh right, Lin the Handsome, I heard the place you rented is just across the street, right? Mind if we take a look? We’re too lazy to go back to the dorm, and we can head straight to class later.”
As she spoke, He Xiaoyue winked at him, hinting for him to agree.
Lin Mo instantly understood. “I don’t mind. Let’s go together.”
And so, the five of them left the drink shop together, heading toward the Chengyue Community across the street.
Just as they were about to enter the community, Sichuan Girl’s phone rang.
“Hello, is this Mr. Li? Your package has arrived. Can I leave it at the Mama Station?”
It was the courier on the other end.
“Sure, thanks!” Sichuan Girl replied without thinking.
After hanging up, she turned to the others. “My package’s here. Come with me to pick it up?”
“What did you buy this time?” Lin Mo asked casually.
Sichuan Girl sighed. “Clothes, obviously. My tools of the trade!”
Hearing that, Lin Mo and Wang Chu exchanged looks before glancing at the two girls.
The meaning was clear — Tools of the trade? Clothes? That could only mean women’s clothes. And with outsiders around, was she sure about this?
Perhaps understanding their looks, Sichuan Girl said lightly, “Relax. It’s shipped discreetly.”
Soon, the group arrived at a Mama Station not far from the community. The shop was run by a middle-aged woman.
“Boss, pick-up code 05-5019!” Sichuan Girl called out loudly.
The woman looked at her, then at the group behind her. “You sure? Doesn’t seem to be here.”
Sichuan Girl: “Huh? That’s impossible! The courier just called me and said it arrived!”
Seeing her insistence, the woman barely suppressed her smile. “Oh right, I found it. Li, last digits 9527, right?”
Then she pulled out a tightly wrapped, life-sized, human-shaped package — almost as tall as Sichuan Girl — and placed it right in front of them.
Instantly, silence filled the shop.
The four behind her widened their eyes. Lin Mo and Wang Chu immediately took several steps back to show they had nothing to do with it.
At least in front of the boss, they had to make it clear — they weren’t that kind of people!
Wang Jing and He Xiaoyue froze for a moment. Then He Xiaoyue shrieked, “It’s inflatable! Li—mmm!”
Before she could finish, the class monitor covered her mouth and pulled her back. “Don’t talk nonsense. We didn’t see anything!”
Sichuan Girl: …
“Wait, trust me! It really is clothes!”
Facing the teasing look from the shop owner, Sichuan Girl turned desperately to her friends, hoping they’d defend her.
But clearly, none of them had the courage. After all, this was like falling into a pile of yellow mud — even if it wasn’t poop, it looked like it. Who’d dare get involved?
Seeing this, Sichuan Girl grew more anxious. “Old Mo! Wang Chu! Say something, you two!”
The two stayed silent, pretending to look elsewhere.
Sichuan Girl: …
She never expected that the tricks she once used on them would one day come back like a boomerang — hitting her squarely in the forehead.
Indeed, what goes around comes around.
