Chapter 139 : Li 500
Chapter 139 : Li 500
Chapter 139: Li 500
Early the next morning, Lin Mo finally returned to his normal routine. He got up and drank a glass of honey water.
Yes, that was the taste — good for digestion and bowel movement.
Then he went to the bathroom for a number two, washed up while he was at it. The toothpaste he had been using for several days was still performing exceptionally well.
Not only had his teeth become a shade whiter, but his oral hygiene had also visibly improved. In the past, there were always hard-to-reach places when brushing, places where gunk would accumulate and eventually form tartar if not cleaned in time.
After putting on his Back Straightener, he placed the “13-in-1 Shampoo” he had bought last night in the bathroom for communal use. Whoever wanted to use it could go ahead — he, for one, had absolutely no desire to try it.
What kind of thing was that anyway? Something that could be used externally, taken orally, even applied to the eyes — and the key point was, it could also double as engine oil! Simply absurd. He just didn’t know how it tasted, though apparently it could even be used as a hot pot soup base.
A 3-in-1 combo of shampoo, body wash, and conditioner was still acceptable — after all, guys weren’t picky about such things — but 13-in-1 was downright ridiculous.
He had opened the bottle to take a look. Inside was a watery, transparent liquid. Though he trusted the authenticity of the shopping pop-ups, he still couldn’t bring himself to use something that could double as toilet cleaner on his body — let alone swallow it.
The only reason he still bought it was that, among the four items from last night, this one seemed the least harmful.
He had temporarily ruled out the weapons category — even if it was just a stun gun, whoever got shocked would definitely call the police.
The hot dry noodles were actually a decent option — even considered a conceptual weapon — but the problem was, they were far too unstable.
If he ate them himself, it would trigger the “beheading mission.” If he gave them to someone else, he didn’t know whether it would randomly choose a passerby nearby or target the person who handed him the noodles.
Besides, storage was risky. Even though the Sichuan Girl hadn’t been staying over much lately, Wang Chu often came back — and that guy was a glutton. He could dig up the imperial disaster relief grain if it meant getting a bite to eat.
After all, it wasn’t like he hadn’t tried hiding food before — every time he did, Wang Chu found it. Eventually, he just gave up and decided that whenever he bought something to eat, everyone could share.
Of course, toilet paper still needed to be protected. Everything else could be fair game.
But edible or not, that shampoo was a hard pass — he had no intention of being randomly beheaded.
As for the pesticide — that was even more useless. What good was giving insects rheumatoid arthritis if it couldn’t even kill them? That thing had to be fake.
After much consideration, it seemed the only thing worth buying was the 13-in-1 shampoo. Though it didn’t have any special effects, at least it was practical — if nothing else, it could be used as toilet cleaner. All in all, there were plenty of ways to make use of it.
And with Wang Chu around in the dorm, it definitely wouldn’t go to waste.
On the track field, Lin Mo did his usual warm-up jog, then practiced standing postures. Whether it was due to the stance training or the herbal liquid, his mental state had been excellent these past few days.
The Little Old Lady wasn’t there today — probably went home. Lin Mo planned to visit Professor Mu’s house that afternoon, mainly because his herbal liquid was running low.
After eating breakfast at the cafeteria, he saw that outdoor drills had begun — it was the last day of the freshman military training. Tomorrow would be the full-campus performance, followed by the welcome party. After that, the freshmen would be officially integrated into university life.
Back at the dorm, Lin Mo took a shower, changed clothes, applied some eye drops, grabbed his copybook and The Shennong Herbal Classic, then headed for the library.
Senior year life was that dull — no real classes, and even the few ones like “College Career Guidance” were useless time-fillers.
“Scratch, scratch, scratch—”
In the library, Lin Mo’s pen moved swiftly over the page as he followed the copybook’s guide. After a little more than an hour, he finally finished tracing the thick stack of pages.
Immediately, he felt the memory of writing in his mind deepen. His strokes — horizontal, vertical, and slanted — had become smoother, more natural than before.
Then he flipped the copybook over and began copying lines from The Shennong Herbal Classic onto the back. The characters he wrote were neat, evenly sized, aesthetically balanced, and perfectly aligned.
He wrote two to three hundred characters in one go, realizing that even the spacing between characters was identical. The page looked so clean and orderly it could’ve been printed.
If he had written like this in high school, he thought, he could’ve earned at least two extra points for neatness — his Chinese grades would’ve definitely improved.
After all, when grading essays, if the handwriting was nice and the page tidy, teachers naturally gave higher marks.
Rubbing his slightly sore fingers, Lin Mo smiled in satisfaction. He had just added another skill to his repertoire — and in the near future, it would come in handy when he wrote his application to join the Party.
Setting the completed copybook aside, he was about to read the Shennong Herbal Classic Professor Li had given him when he suddenly noticed several girls sitting nearby.
None of them were reading; they were just sneaking glances at him from time to time — some even holding up their phones, secretly taking photos.
Then, a pretty girl in a white blouse and black pleated skirt sat down beside him and whispered:
“Hello, are you Senior Lin Mo?”
Though a bit confused, Lin Mo nodded.
“It really is you! I’m a sophomore majoring in English. My name is Xia An’an. I saw your video online — I didn’t expect to meet you here in person. Senior Lin Mo, you’re even more handsome in real life than in the video.” The girl’s voice trembled slightly with excitement.
Fortunately, it was a library — even with her excitement, she spoke softly enough not to draw attention.
Hearing that, Lin Mo immediately understood why she was staring at him. Judging by the glances from the other girls around, they were probably here for the same reason.
He hadn’t expected Sichuan Girl’s prediction to come true — he had really become a small campus celebrity. Luckily, he wasn’t an influencer or a star; the hype would die down in a few days. No need to wear a mask just to go out.
In this summer heat, even going shirtless felt hot — wearing a mask would be torture.
“Thank you. You’re very pretty too,” Lin Mo said with a polite smile.
After all, if someone complimented you, basic manners dictated you return the courtesy.
“Senior Lin Mo, can I add your contact?” Xia An’an asked eagerly, phone in hand, eyes wide with anticipation.
To be fair, she really was quite pretty — with her clean “pure junior” outfit, delicate features, and a touch of makeup, she was an undeniable beauty.
In terms of looks, she was a bit prettier than Zhao Tingting. Zhao Tingting, however, had been a student council officer, and the position had added to her reputation.
Lin Mo looked at her with a hint of amusement, saying nothing, just smiling faintly.
He hadn’t expected the first time a girl approached him to be in the library — and in this fashion.
Though still young, he was already a seasoned senior. With how fast news spread online these days, he clearly understood what it meant when a girl asked for your contact info.
Between men and women, random “friendly” exchanges rarely stayed platonic — most of the time, there was romantic intent behind them. Who would go out of their way to add a stranger just to “make a friend”?
Honestly, if this had happened back in his sophomore or junior year, he would’ve been thrilled. Who didn’t want a sweet college romance, after all?
But now that he was a senior — and with the shopping page in his hands — dating wasn’t a priority. Women only slowed down his money-making speed… unless she was a rich woman, of course. A rich woman could help him make more money.
Seeing he didn’t respond right away, just smiled at her, Xia An’an’s cheeks flushed red. She glanced around and saw several girls watching them, then leaned closer and whispered:
“Senior Lin Mo, can we step outside for a bit? I have something I’d like to talk to you about.”
Hearing that, Lin Mo glanced around as well, noticing the curious stares around them. He nodded, stood up with his book, and followed her out.
After so many years of being a regular guy, he wasn’t used to being the center of so much female attention — it made him a little uncomfortable.
Soon, they sat together on a bench under a tree outside the library.
“Senior Lin Mo,” Xia An’an said eagerly, “I’ve watched your recent videos online — you look amazing! I really wanted to get to know you. Can we be friends?”
“Thank you, of course we can. But just now, you said you had something to discuss. Don’t tell me that was it?” Lin Mo smiled.
Perhaps because of the Rushuang Empress’s influence, he now found it much easier to talk to beautiful women calmly.
Before, he’d get nervous whenever he spoke to a pretty girl — even with Miss Yuan Meng, it had been the same. It was only after spending more time with her that he became comfortable. Maybe the Rushuang Empress had boosted his resistance to ordinary beauty.
“It’s like this,” Xia An’an said, “besides being an English major, I also run my own social media account. I have over 300,000 followers on Douyin. I saw your video trending these past few days, but you don’t seem to have your own account.
So I wanted to invite you to collaborate on short videos. We could appear as a ‘couple’ onscreen — if we plan it well, we could gain a lot of followers from your current popularity. You could even open your own account, and we could promote each other!” she said excitedly.
Lin Mo chuckled. So that was it. He knew it — he might look better these days, but not that good. Sure enough, it was about profit.
Still, he wasn’t angry. The girl wasn’t doing anything wrong — she just wanted to capitalize on his popularity and make some money. Perfectly reasonable.
“Pretend to be a couple? That’s not really my thing. I’m not planning to do social media, and I don’t want to deceive people by acting every day,” Lin Mo said with a polite refusal.
If he ever decided to make videos, his first pick for a partner would be the Sichuan Girl — someone he knew well.
Working with strangers meant signing contracts, and before long, he might not even own the account himself.
But his words seemed to have been misunderstood. Xia An’an suddenly blushed and said softly, “At first we’d only pretend... but if you agreed, maybe it could become real.”
Lin Mo:
Well, damn. Beauty trap?
If that’s how you’re playing it, then I’ll be even more cautious.
“Sorry,” he said, “I’m not planning on that for now. But if you’d like, I can introduce you to a friend — he’s also in social media.”
Lin Mo knew himself. Sure, he had some popularity now — but what about in a few days, when the buzz died down?
If things went well, great. But if not, before they could even “break up,” she’d already have to rebuild her “single” persona for her fans.
Hearing his refusal, Xia An’an looked visibly disappointed. She tried to persuade him a few more times, but seeing his firm attitude, she eventually gave up. Before leaving, she still added his contact, saying, “If you change your mind in the next few days, feel free to message me.”
She didn’t say it directly, but Lin Mo understood her meaning — basically, “While you’re still trending, reach out. Once you’re not, don’t bother.”
Lin Mo shook his head with a quiet laugh. After parting ways with her, he went straight to the Sichuan Girl’s apartment.
The moment he opened the door, he heard her shouting into her phone:
“Get lost! I already said I’m not signing, why do you keep asking? You think I need you to find me gigs? Call again and I’ll really start cursing you out!”
She hung up angrily and sat down on the sofa, fuming.
“What’s going on? Who made you so mad?” Lin Mo asked with a grin.
Though the Sichuan Girl had a sharp tongue, she rarely got this upset.
“A dumbass MC company! They wanted me to sign with them — I refused. Then they said they’d get me a deal — 50,000 yuan for the job, but only 500 yuan for me in commission! The hell? Do they think I’m begging for scraps?
And they had the nerve to say that even million-follower influencers only get the same cut under contract — that mine was already generous since I hadn’t signed! Do they take me for an idiot?” she snapped, clearly furious.
After all, she wasn’t a total novice — she’d handled sponsorships before and knew how the business worked. This was outright exploitation.
Hearing that, Lin Mo raised his eyebrows. “Oh? Li 500?”
Sichuan Girl: “Get lost! You’re the 500!”
Lin Mo: “Sorry, I’m higher than that — I’m 800!”
Sichuan Girl: “???”
