Evading the Hero’s Party with Full Effort

Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Ch.46 Lord’s Permission Granted

“Haa… haa…”

Leah, recklessly unleashing magic all around her, suddenly felt an immense spell envelop her.

In the blink of an eye, she was transported from the snowy mountain to a vast, open plain.

“Where… is this?”

Seeing the golden wheat fields stretching endlessly before her, Leah despaired—her legs went limp.

“Haha… haha… damn it…”

She had always restrained herself from cursing while with her master…

But now, she didn’t even know if he was alive or dead.

‘If he’s caught in an avalanche and isn’t rescued soon…’

Her master would die.

No… given the circumstances, he was probably already dead. Leah was once again consumed by rage.

“Hey there, missy. What are you doing here?”

A farmer, busy harvesting wheat nearby, gaped in astonishment at Leah, who had appeared as if dropped from the sky.

“Hey! Can you hear me?”

But Leah seemed oblivious to his words, staring blankly at the ground.

“Oi! Ray! Come over here and get this girl out of the way!”

At the farmer’s shout, a man with reddish skin and a chain around his neck shuddered and approached Leah. As he reached to place a hand on her shoulder…

—Thwack!

Leah slapped his hand away and glared at him.

“You’re a slave?”

Ray trembled even more violently under her eyes—filled with mingled fury and sorrow.

“Y-yes? I… I am…”

“Perfect. Just perfect. Then you must be the owner here, right?”

Leah turned her gaze toward the farmer—not with mere killing intent, but with madness burning in her eyes, as if ready to incinerate everything.

“Hiiik?! How dare this brat glare at an adult like—”

“Fire Wall.”

At Leah’s quiet incantation, towering flames erupted, fiercely consuming the wheat field.

“Brat, am I? Hehe… hehe… BWAHAHAHA!”

She laughed, tears streaming down her face. The farmer, unnerved by her eerie, terrifying expression, began trembling uncontrollably.

Leah, laughing as if gone mad, raised her hand toward the sky and whispered:

“Meteor.”

***

“Krah! That hits the spot.”

I was soaking in a huge bathtub brimming with hot water.

After wandering around all day in damp undergarments on such a cold day, the stink of sweat had become quite uncomfortable. Ahh… it felt heavenly to finally melt away the chill in this warm water.

“Khh… this is paradise.”

Lavish interior decor and a bathtub as large as a public bathhouse.

What should I ask for dinner?

Lost in such carefree thoughts, I finished washing and stepped out—only to be met by a giant golem.

—Did you enjoy your bath?

“Yeah, the water temperature was just right.”

—Good to hear. Lady Icira Frosthold requests your presence for dinner. I’ll escort you.

Following the golem, I headed toward the dining hall.

Aria and Icira were seated at the long table.

Aria’s face lit up with joy as she saw me.

—Plop!

“Big brother!”

She toddled over and threw herself into my arms.

Gently patting her small, round head, I took my seat.

“What’s for dinner tonight?”

“Hmm? Edward, what’s on the menu tonight?”

—We’ve prepared ogre meat for the two of you. What would our guest like?

Ah, as expected—dragon rare.

So whatever the guest desires magically appears, huh?

Feeling elated, I asked eagerly:

“What options do I have?”

—Fresh ogre sirloin and troll belly are particularly good today.

Edward’s words suddenly triggered an unpleasant memory.

“You don’t mean… raw meat, do you?”

The game’s setting flashed through my mind: dragons only eat raw meat.

Right—back then, they’d proudly served me raw meat, claiming it was a special treat.

If this world truly mirrors the game, then such absurdity might very well happen here too.

—Yes, it’s raw.

Just as I thought.

“Hold on a sec. I’d rather cook it myself.”

I stood up—and Aria immediately jumped up too.

“Me too! I’ll help!”

“Oh my! What’s this? A dragon cooking?”

Icira, startled, shot me a sidelong glance.

“Such trivial tasks as cooking are beneath a dragon. Besides, the best way to enjoy meat is raw—preserving nature’s pure flavor. Isn’t that right, my dear?”

Aria glanced hesitantly at me, then back at Icira.

“But… I’m getting tired of raw meat. And Big brother’s cooking is amazing! Last time he made fondue—it was so delicious!”

“It’s ‘fondue,’ dear. And that’s something only poor humans eat. Not food fit for our noble race.”

She wasn’t wrong—here, fondue wouldn’t be considered fine dining.

It’s typically a winter dish made when food is scarce: melted cheese mixed haphazardly with whatever ingredients are on hand.

But her constant ‘human this, human that’ dragon superiority complex really grated on me.

“Hehe, then allow me to prepare something truly delicious for you.”

After all, between Earth and this world, I’ve been living on my own for nine years now.

My cooking skills, honed by countless YouTube tutorials, are no joke.

“Edward, where’s the kitchen?”

—We don’t have a separate kitchen in our lair.

“Guh…!”

I knew dragons were obsessed with raw meat, but still—no kitchen at home? What in the world…?

“Uh… Lady Icira, do you at least have pots or other kitchenware? And ingredients?”

“We dragons don’t have dull palates like humans. We prefer raw food that retains nature’s unadulterated taste.”

They’d probably need to catch parasites before realizing their mistake.

(Though I’m not even sure if dragons can get parasites.) Either way, I had zero intention of eating raw meat—or bland, gamey meat roasted without spices.

And especially not something as fishy-smelling as ogre or troll meat.

“So… you don’t have any?”

“How utterly bothersome.”

Annoyed, Icira waved her hand through the air, pulled a small bag from seemingly nowhere, and tossed it to me.

I fumbled but managed to catch the flying bag—and Icira explained:

“Most essentials should be inside. Figure it out yourself.”

“Is this… a spatial storage bag?”

I asked hopefully—and Icira nodded.

Ever since arriving here, I’d searched everywhere for an artifact with spatial storage, but never found one.

Spatial magic itself is a 7th-circle high-tier spell; crafting artifacts with it is supposedly impossible with local magical technology.

Guess dragons really are on another level.

Reaching into the bag while picturing kitchen tools, I pulled out whatever my hand touched: a knife, a cutting board, and a pot.

“Ooh!”

For someone like me—who can’t use an inventory system right now—this artifact was pure gold.

Now, what to cook for dinner?

Maybe tomato beef stew? It’s been a while.

Back then, whenever Leah was in a bad mood, I’d always cheer her up with food.

Leah… forget about someone like me now. Be happy.

Thinking that I’d finally granted her true freedom, a natural smile spread across my lips.

With that happy farewell to Leah in my heart, I began making tomato beef stew.

—Sniff sniff.

Before I knew it, Hatchling had crept up beside me.

Aria, her mouth smeared with blood, peered curiously into the pot.

“Big brother? What’s this?”

She reached a finger toward the stew.

I quickly grabbed her hand.

(How dare you touch food with those dirty hands?)

I almost blurted it out—but swallowed the words, remembering Icira’s intimidating presence.

“Don’t touch it—it’s cooking. This is tomato beef stew.”

Aria pressed her nose right over the bubbling pot, sniffing intently.

“It smells… strange. But different from Raela’s stew!”

Of course—it’s because Raela’s village sits atop snowy plains where crops like tomatoes can’t grow.

At best, they’d have berries from northern regions, fish, and reindeer meat.

“This one’s made with tomatoes. Want a little taste?”

At my offer, Aria glanced cautiously at Icira, then whispered in my ear:

“Mom hates this kind of food… can you give me some secretly?”

“I heard that, dear. Listen, human—you mustn’t feed my child such things. Young Hatchlings need healthy food.”

Icira approached, pulled Aria into a hug, then turned to me.

“Finish your meal and clean up. Ask Edward about your sleeping arrangements.”

And with that, she left the dining hall.

***

About a week into my stay here…

“Haaah… I’m happy.”

The dragon lair was absurdly comfortable—so much so that I wondered if this was really okay.

A massive mansion built within the enormous lair…

I was living there, attended by golems.

Hot baths, a library full of reading material…

After recently trekking through scorching deserts and freezing tundras, this peaceful rest felt like my body was literally melting.

“My body’s melting away…”

“Big brother~!”

And on top of that—adorable Aria.

Lately, she has been visiting me every day.

Probably because of Icira’s uniquely cynical mannerisms and behavior.

What else would drive such a little one to run away from home?

“What story will you tell me today?”

To repay their kindness—and keep bored Aria entertained—I’d been sharing Earth’s fairy tales and folktales.

I’m not sure why, but the tales here… are either excessively brutal or overly sensual.

“Today, I’ll tell you about King Solomon’s Judgment.”

The biblical tale of Solomon—famous for identifying the true mother among two women claiming the same child by ordering the baby to be cut in half.

“So King Solomon declared with authority: ‘Cut the child in two!’“

I mimicked Solomon’s voice dramatically—and Aria’s face paled.

“What?! But then the baby would die!”

She spoke as if she herself were that child.

Her vivid reactions made storytelling truly worthwhile.

Wiggling my fingers, I explained:

“All of it was Solomon’s wise plan to reveal the true mother.”

Aria looked astonished.

“Really? How?”

“Alright—if you were the real mother, what would you do?”

“Hmm… I’d say no, don’t do it.”

I nodded.

“Exactly! One woman agreed, calling it wise judgment. The other begged, ‘Please give the child to her—just let him live!’“

Aria’s eyes widened with realization—then she beamed.

“Ah! So the one who begged to save the baby was the real mom!”

“Right! My Aria’s so smart!”

I gave her a thumbs-up.

Suddenly, Aria looked troubled and asked me:

“If… if I were in that situation… would Mommy do the same?”

Aria, feeling deep loneliness beneath Icira’s cold demeanor…

She was still too young to understand.

But Icira was the kind of woman who’d die for Aria.

She just… expressed it poorly.

Or maybe all dragons are like this?

So I nodded firmly.

“Of course. Don’t you know how much your mother loves you? That’s exactly why she promised to show you the Lord’s chamber.”

Just then, a beautiful woman’s voice rang out:

“Yes, you understand well. Hurry and get ready—the Lord has granted permission.”

Finally!
