Chapter 157
Chapter 157
Ch.157 CollaspedJust as everyone was engulfed in silence.
“Stop talking nonsense about the impossible! What on earth do you take women for?”
At Mia’s angry voice, Icira responded coolly.
“Then, is there any other way to save lives besides that method?”
Mia’s eyes blazed as she glared at Icira.
“Is saying ‘absolutely not’ without any discussion all you can do?”
“Hey there……”
“We Elves believe sincerity is necessary in love. Promiscuous dragons probably wouldn’t understand such a sublime emotion.”
“What?”
The two stood up abruptly, glaring at each other as if ready for a fight.
“How dare you challenge me so recklessly just because you can summon the Spirit King?”
“The Spirit Kings are the kings of all nature. They are not beings to be spoken of lightly, even by a dragon.”
Worried that the Spirit King and the dragon might end up fighting in my territory if this continued, I shouted.
“Hey! Stop it and listen to me for a second!”
When I raised my voice, both their gazes turned to me.
“Everything else is fine, but you said we need to subdue Roy to use the magic tool, right? How are you going to subdue him?”
That was it.
The reason we’re making the magic tool is that we have a sliver of hope, thinking maybe there’s another opportunity.
Simply put, it means we intend to find a way to use this magic tool step by step.
“That is……”
Icira couldn’t readily answer my question.
“See, but what……”
“Wait a minute! Didn’t you ask me to help you make the magic tool?”
I flinched at Icira’s unusually intense gaze.
“Uh… I did, yes?”
“Then shouldn’t you be the one thinking about how to use it? It feels like you’re subtly pushing your responsibility onto me? Let me ask you, the magic tool will be completed soon. So how are you going to use it on Roy? You’re not planning to say you haven’t thought about it until now, are you? Especially since I’m personally stepping up to make this.”
Her extremely fundamental question left me at a loss for words.
“Th… that is……”
“Well then! Tell us now how you plan to use it!”
Then Mia stepped in and spoke.
“If you’re a dragon, you should be able to use subduing magic. Wouldn’t a high-level subduing spell work?”
“Step aside, Elf who knows nothing.”
Seeing Mia frown at Icira’s insulting tone, I intervened.
“The King of the Dead doesn’t respond well to magic effects.”
Icira agreed with my words.
“Correct. Even Lord Auros’s draconic language magic would have little effect.”
The King of the Dead possesses tremendous physical and magic resistance.
On top of that, an enormous health pool.
A character showing the dignity befitting a final boss.
After all, he is the boss of the final chapter.
“Then……”
“Subduing him won’t be easy.”
There are a few spells or builds that can reduce his magic resistance…
But they are far from being subduing methods.
Things like acid poison, or flames.
Originally, against such an enemy, using curses, a Necromancer-specific skill, would be good, but Roy knows all Necromancer skills.
Meaning, even if we shower him with curses, it’s highly likely they will have little effect.
That’s why the most effective method against Roy is to just pour on attacks relentlessly.
No matter how high his health is, if he keeps getting hit, he’ll fall.
But here’s the problem: if Roy dies, he regresses and escapes the danger of death.
So finding a subduing method was a difficult task.
“I think I’ve heard that mages’ staves can reduce resistance. If we find such an item……”
“That’s negligible.”
It’s not that items that reduce magic resistance don’t exist.
The problem is that his resistance is so high it isn’t easily reduced by them.
Even if an item reduces resistance by 20~30, it’s considered decent, and are there even one or two items that reduce it by over 100?
But the King of the Dead’s magic resistance is over 1,000.
Even Leah, who is top-tier in this field…
“Ah? Leah?”
Leah’s trait is that when she uses fire magic, it reduces the target’s magic resistance by a percentage and inflicts true damage.
That’s why she was a popular character in ‘Dragon War’.
Because dragons have strong magic resistance, making the efficiency of magic attacks poor.
But no matter how strong a dragon’s resistance is, Leah’s fire magic has a knack for breaking it down enough to inflict significant damage.
“Why are we talking about Leah?”
When Mia asked with a displeased expression, I questioned her.
“Icira, to my knowledge, high-level fire-based subduing magic doesn’t exist… does it, by any chance?”
She frowned and then said.
“Subduing magic is for safely restraining a target. There’s no way such a magic would exist in the fire element.”
Probably because fire would burn the body of the target being subdued?
“Then can you create one? One that a human can use.”
“Why should I bother with such a tedious task? Using draconic language magic would be instantaneous…”
“Leah has a hidden trait, or in local terms, a Gift. It has the effect of greatly neutralizing resistance when she uses fire magic.”
Moreover, the staff Leah currently wields has magic resistance penetration and an effect that boosts damage itself.
Combined with Destiny’s unique damage system where damage increases exponentially the lower the resistance, this build works.
“But would it work on him? He’s a being with resistance surpassing even a dragon’s?”
I added to Icira, who was skeptical.
“If we get one, no, two other items, it’s possible.”
At that moment.
Icira’s face contorted.
“Trouble… The alarm sounded from the Seal Stone dungeon.”
“Ah? Is Roy here?”
At my words, she nodded with a stiff expression.
“Correct.”
“Giovanni! Quickly, call Nekhuf and Nephert!”
“Y-Yes!”
Watching Giovanni rush out, I also prepared to go.
***
Roy stared at the Seal Stone dungeon.
‘I need to break the Seal Stone quickly and get out.’
“Your Majesty… Wouldn’t it be better to retreat for now? They must have laid alarm magic nearby and noticed we’re here.”
Davinus elaborated further to the King, who was silently staring at the dungeon.
“If we retreat first and repeat the intrusions, it will create openings for the enemy. There’s no need to fight head-on, is there?”
The method Roy used to escape whenever he was cornered in battle was teleportation using Altarion’s Staff.
But now, without Altarion’s Staff, the situation is extremely dangerous.
So Davinus was proposing they come and go dozens of times, like the boy who cried wolf, forcing the opponent to stay tense and then attacking when they eventually let their guard down.
It was a move befitting the leader of the Church of Death, who operated in the shadows…
“Are you telling me… to commit such a cowardly act?”
Roy did not think that way.
“Do you wish your King to be cowardly?”
At the King’s cold words, Davinus was taken aback.
“But, Your Majesty… for the greater cause…”
“It is for the greater cause, but we are those who rightfully serve God. Do you not believe in our God?”
At the King’s bold words, Davinus sighed inwardly.
‘We couldn’t capture the Imperial Capital, lost the God’s power, and yet… he’s still going on about honor.’
But what could he do? The King is the one appointed by God.
He took a step forward.
“Follow me closely.”
As the two instantly moved inside, the dungeon began to collapse familiarly.
***
Once I was fully equipped with the Arbiter’s Armor, everyone gathered in my room.
“Shall we get going? Ah. Right. Icira?”
“Why are you calling me?”
I spoke to her, who seemed in a worse mood than usual.
“I think we need to subdue him for sure this time, so let’s teleport to where the Guardians are and ambush him there.”
“Understood. Teleport.”
As her incantation ended, we were instantly enveloped in a blue light and dropped into a large cavern.
Golems and humanoid Guardians stood around.
“Wow? Are these the Guardians?”
“Nekhuf, the Guardians are so pretty and handsome. I’d believe they were Elves.”
Nekhuf and Nephert admired the beautifully formed Guardians.
But are Guardians even needed now?
Each Guardian is strong, but they probably won’t be much help in this fight.
Especially the Golems.
“The Guardians and Golems will probably just get in the way. Shouldn’t we clear them out?”
“Didn’t you ask to place them here?”
“I did, but… I don’t think we need them now.”
Seeing my awkward expression under Icira’s piercing gaze, she let out a deep sigh.
“I’ll move them all to my lair. Teleport.”
The Golems and Guardians vanished instantly.
“Nekhuf. Same as last time. You hold his ankles, and we’ll provide cover.”
At my words, Nekhuf removed the eyepatch covering his eyes and said.
“Don’t worry, bro. Don’t you trust me?”
Nekhuf is the strongest here in close combat.
“Icira, stay back. He might target you first.”
Since Altarion’s Staff is gone, I was worried he might target Icira first.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be in a safer place than you guys.”
“Good, good. Now let’s go greet that guy… This time, we must knock him down, even if we have to kill him.”
That’s what I said, but is it possible?
Just as that thought crossed my mind.
-KOOOONG!
A massive wave of water surged towards us.
“Ah?”
Now that I think about it, that Roy guy washes away poison with water, right?
“Icira! Icira!”
As I called out urgently, she waved her hand.
Then, all that water vanished in an instant.
“Phew. Nice one, Icira. How did you get rid of it?”
“I put it in a subspace. If I used Dispel, poison mist might just come out instead.”
I nodded involuntarily at Icira’s wise judgment.
“Well done. Looks like he’s coming too.”
The sound of footsteps echoing from afar.
I whispered to Icira.
“Once he enters the cavern and is ready to fight, collapse the cavern entrance.”
“Oh? That seems like a good idea?”
-SWOOOSH!
Two figures charged forward, cutting through the wind.
They stopped their footsteps as they entered the cavern.
“What brings you here this time?”
I spoke in a casual tone to Roy, who was grinning nastily with Selena’s face.
“There are only two left now, right? We have to do this properly.”
He summoned a sword from thin air.
“Is that so? Well, fine. Maybe it’ll be easier to kill all of you now and break the next Seal Stone.”
“Think you can? Nekhuf?”
At my words, Nekhuf stepped forward, drawing his sword.
“Huhu, you never change, do you…”
-HYAAAP!
As Nekhuf rushed at Roy and the fight began.
“Fireball!”
-FWOOM!
-KWAAAANG!
As Icira collapsed the cavern entrance, smoke billowed up.
“There’s no escape. Let’s settle this properly today, Roy.”
At my words, he gave a nasty smile.
“Huhu, you’re digging your own graves.”
