Evading the Hero’s Party with Full Effort

Chapter 105

Chapter 105

Ch.105 I Will Search With All My Might!

The commotion had finally settled.

We sipped tea brought by maidservants and exchanged words.

“I had no idea you were the wielder of Equality.”

Icira savored her tea with a calm expression.

“It just sort of happened. Anyway, I came because of my promise to reunite with Aria.”

“That’s part of it—but something deeply troubling has occurred.”

She frowned, as if annoyed by the whole affair.

“Deeply troubling?”

“The King of the Dead has risen. And that you’re the Adversary… of all people.”

Icira swept her palms over her face as if she’d witnessed something unbearable.

“What’s wrong with that?”

“Hmm…”

She fixed her gaze on me.

“Well, never mind. I originally came to ask you to look after Aria.

But if you’re the Adversary, things just got complicated.”

“What? You came here to dump childcare on me?”

I simply didn’t have the capacity to care for Aria right now.

With the King of the Dead resurrected, how could I possibly play nursemaid?

Aria was adorable and sweet—but the situation was dire.

“Well, that was the plan… but learning you’re the Adversary has made this messy.”

Icira pressed her fingers to her temple, clearly exasperated.

“Um… how long are we going to stand here like this?”

From the corner, Nephert whined, arms raised helplessly.

Both Icira and I turned our eyes toward the three elves.

“I’d heard elves were refined…”

“Refined? Don’t make me laugh—they’re utterly vulgar! How can you think that after seeing that sweet, innocent child?”

Just how deranged must one be to think such things about dear Aria?

I usually don’t discriminate by race—but this felt like crossing a line.

“You keep calling me a lecher and a womanizer, yet it’s your own minds that are rotten!”

The three elves lowered their heads in shame, unable to utter a word.

“Sigh… then what should we do with Aria?”

Icira let out a deep sigh.

“What’s wrong with Aria?”

“She’s endlessly curious and fearless—I worry she’ll keep putting herself in danger.”

Come to think of it, there was that runaway incident before.

Watching her chin rest in her hand, her expression darkening, I pondered.

“What if she stays here at the mansion?”

Aria fundamentally liked humans.

With all the servants here, she’d probably enjoy herself.

Icira scowled.

“Hmm… but wouldn’t it be dangerous if undead swarm the place?”

“Don’t worry. We’ve got holy relics here—and you saw Giovanni earlier, right? He’s no slouch.”

He may have acted foolish in front of me, but Giovanni was a genuine hero of Destiny.

With abundant holy relics and holy water, he wouldn’t fall easily.

“Hmph… he seems strong for a human, but I’m not convinced.”

Her skepticism baffled me.

By pure physical ability alone, I was the weakest among us.

“So you trust me, then?”

“Well… I suppose. Anyone who can train a disciple as strong as that must be capable.”

By ‘disciple,’ she meant Leah, I assumed.

“That’s not wrong… but I can’t just leave Aria somewhere else…”

Just then, the Hero Party in the capital came to mind.

“Oh! What if we send her to the capital? Leah’s there—Aria would adjust easily.”

“Leah is your disciple?”

I gave a small nod.

“Yes. Plus, the Saintess and the Hero are there too.”

“Hmm… I’ve heard they’re quite close to you as well.”

Icira narrowed her eyes at me.

Fearing she’d misjudge me as some womanizing rogue like the others, I quickly replied:

“Well… there’s some misunderstanding mixed in there.”

“Hmph. Fine. I’ll leave Aria in the capital. But now that you’re the Adversary, you must deal with the King of the Dead. What’s your plan?”

Waving off her doubts, I said confidently:

“I know where the Seal Stone is. And I know where the King of the Dead is headed.”

In the original game, the story was simple: the map kindly marked the Seal Stone’s location, and after each defense of the capital, following the navigation would lead you straight to the King as he tried to destroy it.

Unlike the game—where the story wouldn’t progress unless the player went to the Seal Stone— here, the Church of Death didn’t know its location and had to search for it.

So why not get there first and set a trap?

“You’re certain?”

Icira looked skeptical.

“You claim to know the location of the Seal Stone—hidden by humans thousands of years ago?”

“Of course. Who do you think I am? The Adversary, aren’t I?”

I’d only recently learned that the wielder of Equality was the prophesied Adversary.

My expression hardened as I spoke lowly:

“There’s something I’ve been thinking…”

“What is it?”

—Gulp.

Perhaps it was the ominous shift in atmosphere—the elves, still under punishment, audibly swallowed.

“What if I use teleportation magic to set a trap in advance?”

“A trap?”

“Yes. One he’ll absolutely love walking into.”

In the game, players were always dragged along by the plot—a forced linearity imposed by the developers.

But here?

If I could get ahead of Roy and lay a trap…

how could I possibly resist?

***

Roy de More and Cardinal Davinus had made camp atop the ruins of Roy’s former palace.

Roy, having already resurrected his once-dead army, rested his chin on his hand, expression indifferent as he sat upon his makeshift throne.

“Still haven’t located the Seal Stone?”

Though Roy’s tone was calm, Davinus took it as rebuke.

“We’re searching every possible lead.”

“It’s been thousands of years—it’s understandable. But…”

He crossed his arms and glared at his cardinal.

“Not even knowing where Daphne’s tomb lies… truly incompetent.”

Daphne—Roy’s former comrade and rival.

Long ago, she was a renowned nun who discovered Roy’s attempt to summon the God of Death in life.

She allied with the Papal See and helped slay him.

“She would surely know the Seal Stone’s location.”

When Roy had learned of the Seal Stone in his past life, the Papal See changed its location—fearing he might one day return and destroy it.

“I’ll find it soon… just grant me a little more time.”

For now, the King of the Dead could do little.

“Very well. I’ll give you time…”

Roy rose and stepped outside the tent.

Thousands… tens of thousands…

Soulless soldiers stood in perfect formation, staring blankly at their king.

“My soldiers… I’m sorry.”

The king, possessing Selena’s body, felt profound sorrow as he looked upon them.

These were loyal warriors who died for his weakness.

He’d resurrected them—but their souls remained lost.

“Because of my incompetence, I killed you once…and now, needing your strength, I’ve only managed a half-resurrection.”

His voice dripped with self-loathing and regret.

The king truly lamented his own powerlessness.

“But look! The God has promised to return!

When He does, you shall be fully restored—and granted eternal life!”

Though the king spoke with fervor, the soldiers gave no response.

Seeing no reaction from warriors who once faced death without fear for their loyalty, the king shed a single tear and declared:

“To ensure that, we must keep the Pope’s loyalists firmly pinned in the capital.

Their interference would complicate matters greatly.”

He raised his hand.

“I shall share our God’s power with you—the strength to command the mighty undead! With this, summon powerful liches and death knights, and bring the capital to its knees!”

Violet light erupted from his palm, blessing his army.

“Now! Expand your ranks, crush the capital, and bring me the Pope’s head!”

At Roy’s command, the soldiers turned in perfect unison.

“I do this not just for you—but for all humanity! I shall summon our God! We shall meet again in paradise!”

As the farewell ceremony ended, a man in black leaned close to Davinus and whispered:

—Sss… sss…

Moments later, Davinus whirled on the man, eyes wide with shock.

“What?! Our branches are under attack?!”

“Well…”

“Who?! Who leaked our intelligence?!”

Followers of the Church of Death were enemies of the continent—an unwritten law upheld for millennia.

Yet they couldn’t halt their operations.

They ran a network of sleeper cells—disguised as ordinary taverns and shops—issuing orders to faithful followers in secret.

The Church of Death had hidden itself with ruthless thoroughness.

So the news that their well-concealed branches were being raided stunned Davinus.

After all, those branches were the hands and feet of the Church—staffed by its most loyal.

“It’s… unclear, but in the capital, even the Hero has joined the assault.

Other branches report attacks by local lords—it’s deeply abnormal.”

Davinus was utterly flustered.

Before his very king, his incompetence as leader of the Church was laid bare.

‘Who?! Who dares do this?!’

His teeth bared, shoulders trembling—he could no longer conceal his rage.

“Heh heh… it seems something’s happened to the Order.”

“I’m mortified… I can’t fathom who would orchestrate this…”

Davinus trailed off, genuinely clueless.

But the King spoke with quiet certainty:

“The Adversary.”

Roy, the King of the Dead, had realized it instantly.

The otherworlder—the Adversary.

The arrogant one who claimed to know the future.

Whether he truly knew the future or not…

‘He must know something—that’s why he’s so confident.’

The King sifted through Selena’s memories, recalling Hans’s words during their duel:

‘But if he truly knew the future perfectly… why act now?’

Had Hans moved just a few months earlier, Roy would never have resurrected.

‘So his knowledge isn’t perfect.’

Indeed, in the Destiny game, player interference with the Church of Death was limited.

Attacking branches before the King of the Dead’s full awakening would only cause them to respawn.

That’s why Hans never bothered—he knew unnecessary variables only worked against him.

“Fine. I have my undead… and I have my God.

You—find Daphne’s tomb as quickly as possible.”

“Yes! I will search with all my might!”
