Chapter 100
Chapter 100
Ch.100 I’ll Show You Around the Capital
The night after the incident at the Imperial Palace.
The Hero Party and Nephert gathered together, deep in conversation.
“Mia? Are you really going with Master? It just feels like another one of his shady schemes.”
Leah couldn’t bring herself to say outright that she was dating Hans. She worried that revealing her connection to him might provoke the other women, so she kept it hidden.
“It’s not that simple. The Sage must have his reasons.”
Scarlet, Leah, and Cecilia understood rationally that Hans had formed the team strategically to fight the King of the Dead—but emotionally, it stung.
‘Isn’t the King of the Dead just one enemy? Then I’d be more suitable…’
‘I could’ve done a better job if I’d gone!’
‘This saintly duty is really getting in the way right now.’
Mia spoke calmly. “So don’t worry, everyone.”
‘Heh heh… That’s exactly the difference between you and me.’
Mia chuckled inwardly.
Cecilia threw out a probing remark. “Miss Mia… you’re not planning to betray us and cozy up to Hans, are you?”
“Hmm? Honestly, I don’t trust a man like that.”
Elves couldn’t lie—and as a High Elf, her words should’ve carried weight. But having traveled with Mia, they knew she often twisted the truth just enough to mislead without technically lying.
She hadn’t given a clear ‘no’—just a vague ‘I don’t trust him,’ skillfully dodging the question.
“In any case, this isn’t the time for us to fight among ourselves. We need to deal with the King of the Dead—now.”
Just then, Nephert—who had been sitting silently like a stone statue among the Hero Party—spoke up cautiously.
“So… none of you actually want to be with Hans, right?”
“Ahem. Of course not.”
“That’s right.”
“I wouldn’t know.”
At their replies, Nephert looked visibly relieved. “Good. I was so shocked when I heard you all liked that piece of trash.”
She said it casually—but every woman in the room bristled at her words.
‘Me?!’
‘What does she even know about Father Hans to talk like that?!’
But instead of staying silent, Cecilia decided to match Nephert’s tone. She hardened her expression and declared:
“That’s right! We’re not the type to lose to anyone!”
“Exactly! Even if he’s our master, he’s shameless!”
“Patron isn’t that bad… He’s just… trying his best to save the world…”
Scarlet tried to calm down the suddenly animated Leah and Cecilia.
Watching them, Nephert nodded knowingly. “Now I understand why Selena betrayed Hans. He must’ve done something unforgivable to her too!”
Her words sent shockwaves through the room.
“What? Selena?!”
—Grrk!
‘Couldn’t even wait before chasing another woman?! You bastard, Master?!’
‘Again?! Another one?!’
‘Patron… really…!’
‘Sage… were you truly such an uncontrollable womanizer?!’
All the women were stunned—but Nephert just looked annoyed, as if imagining it was enough to irritate her.
“If you’re going to die, die alone! Why drag poor Nekhuf into your mess? If I’d known this would happen, I would’ve fought harder when you first suggested bringing Hans into our home…”
Mia fixed Nephert with a sharp, menacing glare. “Tell me more about this woman… Scarlet.”
“Huh?”
Only then did Nephert sense the shift in the room’s atmosphere.
—Gulp.
‘Did I just say something wrong?’
“Well… it’s like this…”
And so began the tale of Hans and Selena.
As they heard how deeply the two had cared for each other—even feeding each other ice cream—Leah’s crimson hair practically crackled with rage.
“That damn Master!”
Leah stormed out, and the rest of the Hero Party followed in hot pursuit.
Nephert silently prayed for Hans’s soul.
‘Seriously… who told you to do something like that?’
Moments later, screams echoed through the Imperial Palace—horrifying and desperate.
—“Aaah! Why… why again?!”
—“Was it fun being alone with that woman Selena?! Was it?!”
—“H-how did you even…?!”
—“Sage! To nearly die over such a woman… I’m truly disappointed in you!”
—“Father Hans?! You’re really shameless!”
—“Aaagh! Die! Cecilia! If that hits, you’ll die!”
—“You won’t die if you hit him gently!”
—“It’s not about hitting gently! If you swing a mace gently, of course you won’t kill him!”
—Thud!
***
Giovanni, acting lord of Pisa’s domain, had returned home to enjoy peaceful days with his family and fiancée.
But a few days ago, he’d heard rumors: the sky darkened, and voices rose from the cemetery. He immediately summoned priests to perform a purification—yet deep down, he realized the day Hans had prepared for had finally come.
‘So… the day Brother spoke of has arrived?’
Giovanni had met Hans in his teens. Hans, with his uncanny foresight, amassed vast wealth, aided the Hero Party, and collected wondrous artifacts.
And most importantly—he was the lord who granted Giovanni his long-held dream: knighthood.
In the original ‘Destiny’ game, Giovanni was a famed hero—the tragic protagonist of a sorrowful tale that brought tears to every player’s eyes.
But thanks to Hans’s intervention, that fate had been erased.
“Undead rising to attack… I couldn’t believe it until now.”
Giovanni buried his face in his desk, despairing.
Then—
—Knock knock.
A knock sounded at the door.
“Who is it?”
—“A letter from the Capital.”
Recognizing his steward’s voice, Giovanni straightened up. “Come in.”
A man who looked to be in his forties entered carefully and placed a letter on the lord’s desk.
“What’s this?”
“A letter from Baron Hans.”
At the steward Chapman’s words, Giovanni’s expression hardened.
News of the dead rising was as good as a signal that Hans’s orders were coming.
“Sigh… So it’s finally here.”
He’d always hoped the ever-accurate Baron would be wrong—just this once. But, as usual, Hans had been right.
Giovanni examined the letter. On the red wax seal was Hans’s unmistakable insignia.
Long ago, Giovanni and Hans had prepared numerous contingencies against the King of the Dead: —Renting small warehouses across the Empire, stockpiling holy water and magic scrolls.
—Signing long-term, low-cost contracts with mercenaries left idle after the Demon King’s defeat.
—Securing bulk holy water supplies through agreements with financially struggling temples.
All meticulously planned, step by step.
Giovanni stared blankly at the letter. ‘What kind of order is this?’
Hans wasn’t cruel—but in a crisis threatening humanity’s survival? Who knew what he might demand.
‘Still… I’ll obey.’
After all, how much had Hans done for Giovanni and his family? Who else would’ve elevated a commoner to knighthood—letting him fulfill his dream of marrying his beloved?
Giovanni resolved: even if Hans ordered him into a furnace, he’d go.
Hands trembling, he opened the letter—
—“Hey! How can you build graves so sloppily?! Because of you, I got caught!”
“Ah…”
‘At least it’s not the Hero Party.’
Giovanni had learned the hard way just how unhinged those women were. Realizing this was another of Hans’s ‘cleanup’ letters, he felt a chill—and carefully refolded the letter, glancing at the stack of documents on his desk.
But then, grim memories flooded back, and he hesitated.
“Sigh… I guess I have no choice.”
He opened the letter and read:
—Mia, two Sand Elves, and I are coming. Let’s have a deep, meaningful conversation about why you did such a shoddy job—and how your carelessness nearly got my skull cracked open.
—Your lord, Hans.
Clearly, the Hero Party had found Hans, and he’d learned of Giovanni’s sloppy work.
Giovanni let out a despairing sigh. “Aaah… I’m screwed.”

After the chaotic ordeal with Scarlet’s group finally ended, I could finally get up.
“Ugh… I almost died for real.”
‘Nephert… just you wait. I’ll get you later.’
Cecilia had nearly smashed my skull after hearing about Selena. The way she insisted, “You won’t die if I hit you gently with the mace,” sent chills down my spine.
If I hadn’t dropped to my knees and begged for mercy right then, my head would’ve exploded.
“Ugh… my legs are numb…”
Had I been kneeling too long? My legs tingled painfully.
“Truly, this is my fate.”
Now I had to worry not just about being torn into four pieces—but about my head splitting open too.
“This is all… Giovanni’s fault for doing such a sloppy job.”
If you write ‘Hans’ on every tombstone, of course people will get suspicious, you idiot!
I cursed him inwardly.
“Ugh… my back…”
All because of Giovanni.
Just as I tried to lie down in bed—
—Knock knock.
“Who is it?”
—“It’s me, Brother.”
Nekhuf’s voice.
So now that they’re gone, it’s your turn?
“Come in.”
The door opened, and Nekhuf—his skin like dark chocolate—stepped inside.
“Brother, are you okay? You look awful.”
“My legs are numb, that’s all. What do you need?”
Nekhuf looked puzzled, as if he didn’t understand.
“Oh. Nothing serious. I just want you to show me around the Capital.”
“The Capital? Now?”
Not long ago, spirits had dominated the Capital’s skies. Possessions and chaos had erupted among the citizens just moments before.
“Yeah. If not now, when will I ever get to visit the Old Continent again?”
He had a point. And he’d always dreamed of being an adventurer…
“Besides, I’m probably the first Sand Elf to set foot in the Old Continent, right?”
His eyes sparkled with excitement.
He wasn’t wrong. A stroll through the Capital after so long didn’t sound bad.
“Alright?”
“Yes! I’ll go tell Nephert too.”
“Wait! Nephert’s coming too?!”
I was already furious—and I absolutely did not want to see her face.
“Why would I go with her? Do you know how much trouble I’ve had because of Nephert?”
“Huh? What happened?”
Nekhuf looked genuinely confused.
“Ugh! She’s the one who brought up Selena! Do you have any idea how much I’ve suffered since?!”
“Oh… that…”
He looked embarrassed. “Can’t be helped, I guess.”
Nekhuf gave an awkward smile.
“Fine. I’ll just show you around the Capital.”
And so, Nekhuf and I stepped out of the palace.
