Chapter 351 - 344: A Big Mess of Drama (Part 1)

From flash marriage to divorce, and from divorce to remarriage, during all this time, Leng Yichen mentioned his father so few times you could count them on one hand.

Over the years, this father-in-law of hers never made an appearance in the country. Even for such a significant event as Leng Yichen’s wedding, he didn’t come back to participate.

Bai Yiran couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed; she was used to a world of two without any elders, and now suddenly a father-in-law emerged, leaving Bai Yiran at a loss.

Even though she knew that sooner or later she would have to meet them, when the moment finally came, Bai Yiran still felt somewhat nervous.

What if they didn’t like her? What if a dramatic scene unfolded, with Leng Yichen’s father returning and bringing back a girl who matched Leng Yichen in both status and appearance?

Bai Yiran had asked Leng Yichen this question before, and he usually teased her for watching too many TV dramas.

Leng Yichen said that ever since his mother, Xu Hua, committed suicide, his relationship with his father has been strained. Leng Liewei had once said that if Leng Yichen wasn’t his only son, Huamei International would never have been passed down to him.

Because Xu Hua committed suicide for love, Leng Liewei once doubted that Leng Yichen was his son, even taking him for a paternity test. Although the test confirmed Leng Yichen was indeed Leng Liewei’s child, the incident planted a shadow in the heart of the then-young Leng Yichen. Moreover, since Xu Hua deeply betrayed Leng Liewei, and Leng Yichen’s features resembled Xu Hua’s, Leng Liewei became increasingly indifferent to Leng Yichen. Eventually, their father-son relationship deteriorated to an irreparable state.

Thus, from marriage to divorce and then remarriage, his father never appeared. Or rather, Leng Yichen never told him about the matters, leading to Leng Liewei being unaware of Bai Yiran’s existence.

This was Bai Yiran’s first time meeting Leng Liewei. The elderly man before her was different from her impression. Despite his middle to old age, he maintained a straight posture, and although his face bore the marks of time, his past grace was still apparent.

Leng Liewei sat upright on the sofa, his gaze sharp and scrutinizing Bai Yiran.

"Dad." Leng Yichen was the first to speak, but his tone carried none of the joy one would expect from a father-son reunion; instead, it was exceptionally heavy.

"Dad, hello! I’m Yiran!" Bai Yiran followed closely, introducing herself.

Leng Liewei ignored Bai Yiran’s greeting, or rather, he ignored her entirely. His sharp eyes turned to Leng Yichen, and he spoke in a low voice, "You, come with me!"

Leng Yichen patted Bai Yiran’s shoulder, giving her a reassuring look, then followed Leng Liewei to the study room.

Bai Yiran stood there, feeling a sense of lamentation in her heart.

It seemed her father-in-law genuinely didn’t approve of her, being so stingy as not to spare her a single word.

As the father and son went to the second floor, Bai Yiran turned, intending to head to the kitchen to help Sister Liu, but her attention was captured by a woman walking in from the yard.

The woman appeared to be in her thirties, well-maintained, with fair and smooth skin. The woman hesitated upon seeing Bai Yiran, then, after being reminded by someone beside her, nodded in understanding and approached Bai Yiran.

"You must be Bai Yiran!" The tone of the woman’s voice carried an air of superiority, slightly displeasing Bai Yiran.

"Yes, I am. And you are?"

The woman hesitated for a moment; it seemed the old man hadn’t introduced her identity to others yet. She then laughed, "I’m Luna, the current wife of Leng Liewei, your father-in-law."
