Chapter 175: Announcement
Chapter 175: Announcement
On a Wednesday morning, Instructor Rina walked into Class-E’s classroom with her signature expression.
The class instantly quieted, all discussions ending immediately.
"Morning."
She said curtly, placing her teaching materials on the desk. The students already brought out their books and were preparing for the lecture to start for the day.
"Before we begin anything this morning, I have an announcement for you all."
Heads turned towards her, and the atmosphere tightened.
Adjusting her glasses, she said plainly.
"There is a Special Evaluation coming up next week."
"Eh?" Someone gasped in surprise.
A ripple of shock spread through the whole class, and they instantly became restless. It was obvious from their expressions that they wanted to start asking questions.
However, out of courtesy, they remained quiet and waited for her to explain.
Instructor Rina opened a file on the desk, picking up a stack of papers from it.
"Ysabella, distribute this to everyone in the class."
The blonde girl sprang up from her seat, skipping forward to collect the papers and share them to the others.
After ensuring everyone had a copy, she returned the extra papers to the instructor and returned to her seat.
Instructor Rina continued. "This Special Evaluation is a custom one... with a few modifications."
"It’s titled Luck Special Evaluation. This is a direct competition between all five first-year classes, and the rewards are in the papers you’ve received."
First Place: +100 CRP
Second Place: +50 CRP
Third Place: ±0 CRP
Fourth Place: -50 CRP
Fifth Place: -100 CRP
Seeing the rewards, everyone’s expression turned grim. The risks were great—too great to ignore. Any class that gets fourth or fifth place will lose massively.
"If we take fifth place... we lose 100 Class Rank Points? A whole 10,000 credits?"
Charles asked, a horrified look on his face. He could already feel the harshness of this Special Evaluation.
Many others shared his thoughts, though each person had their own reasons to be depressed. Some were saddened that their allowance would reduce, while some were frustrated since it meant losing more ground in the ranking.
Hazel’s brows furrowed. ’We can’t afford to lose here. It’ll only widen and worsen the gap between us and the current Class-D.’
Right then, Instructor Rina continued.
"This Special Evaluation is quite straightforward, yet complicated."
"Twenty students from each class are randomly chosen to represent their class. Then, these students will draw lots to determine who is going to be their opponent."
Liam raised a hand, his expression focused.
"Instructor, does that mean the choices totally depend on luck?"
Instructor Rina nodded. "Yes, luck. However, you can also purchase a slot from another classmate at the price of 60,000 credits. Half of it goes to the academy, of course."
"Huh..." Liam sighed bitterly.
Ignoring him, the black-haired woman continued.
"A total of one hundred battles will take place during the evaluation, and you might have to fight more than once depending on your luck."
At that statement, several expressions became grim. Class-E had a high number of average or weak students.
Fighting more than once meant that their chances of losing would increase.
"However, there is a saving grace. If you have fought two battles already, you are allowed to delegate your third battle to any random person of your choice. If this person is not from your class, then you are getting no scores for that battle."
Placing the folder back on the table, she folded her arms.
"For a win, you get 3 points. For a draw, each person gets one point. And for a loss, you lose one point."
"The cumulative points of each class determines the final results for the Special Evaluation."
After saying this, she brought the box with a small hole at the top and placed it on the table before her.
"We’re starting the choosing now. According to your seat number, come forward, pick a paper, and return to your seat. Do not open it until I say otherwise."
The students shifted uncomfortably in their seats, all tensed and nervous.
Sebastian, the first person on the front row came forward and picked a paper from the box. Without even glancing at it, he pocketed it and returned to his seat. Jose went next, followed by Eric, then Logan, then Charles, and onto the rest of the class.
After the last person which was Ariel, had chosen, Instructor Rina placed her hands on the podium and leaned forward.
"Now, unravel the papers. If your paper is starred, raise your hand."
The shuffling of papers could be heard, and hands began rising in the air.
After a full minute, twenty hands were raised. Instructor Rina looked at those who had their hands down, her brows furrowed.
’Hazel, Kaiser, Alisa, Charles, Eric, Astron, Martin, Mordica, Amelia, and Tobe.’
Her expression darkened. For Hazel, Astron, and Kaiser to not be selected, she was very disappointed.
’Class-E and their shitty luck.’
Cursing inwardly, she nodded and noted down the names of the chosen students.
"Give me a few minutes. I will deliver this to the office. Maintain order while I’m gone."
Packing the extra papers and the mystery box, Instructor Rina stepped out of class. Immediately, conversations broke out instantly.
Logan turned back sharply, staring at Hazel.
"Eh? Hazel, you didn’t choose a starred paper?"
The girl turned to him, her gaze cold and aloof. "Yes. Is that a problem?"
"Damnit!" The boy cursed under his breath. "That means we can’t get to use your strength. Do you want to buy my slot? I’ll finance the payment."
Hazel raised an eyebrow, confused. "This is your chance to test your strength against the other classes. Don’t you think it’s foolish to throw such an opportunity away?"
"Uh... I don’t know."
The boy scratched the back of his head, a playful smile on his lips.
Hazel scoffed and turned to Kaiser.
"You. Interested in buying?"
Kaiser raised his head, a confused look in his eyes.
"Me? No, of course not. It’s too troublesome."
He absolutely preferred staying out of unnecessary battles that lacked meaning and offered him no value.
"I knew it."
Hazel muttered helplessly under her breath, then turned to Ariel. Her gaze sharp, she spoke loudly enough for only him to hear.
"What about you? Still pretending to be average?"
