Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 988 - 987 - Lost Legacies

Chapter 988 - 987 - Lost Legacies

Lind was once more in the open air office of the sect master of the Eternal Blossom Sect.

It was several days after his shocking treatment of a small group of inner disciples. Apparently they all had the same master inside the sect who had the proper physique for their technique.

Lind had been sought out eagerly but unclaimed techniques were not fixed for free. He would only do it for a price. It was reasonable but he did not want resources, he wanted answers.

The sect was supposed to be following the path of nature quite literally but he was confused about things he had seen. Further, there were some basic things that seemed to be missing as well.

The young beast girl was but one. The damaged meridians should have been noticed as well so why were they not treated? He also found the dynamics of disciple interactions was imbalanced.

In most sects, even wicked ones, disciples generally used power to rise and suppress rivals but petty attacks were damned rare. Mostly it was about results.

Being a bit vindictive would satisfy emotions but unless it produced resources, power, or advantage, it was not helpful to indulge it over and over again.

Yet he had seen numerous examples of disciples acting like spoiled children more than cultivators. While following nature was about destruction and creation with all that was in between, it did not explain such interactions between people.

He did notice the infractions avoided Elders and their limited aura made it harder to manage. It was possible the cultivators were just so young they knew how to push their limits with their unstable emotions distracting them.

He was sipping at tea when the sect master finally came in. She looked irritated but he could identify why. Meetings were necessary but could be damned irritating when politically ambitious elders wasted everyone's time.

He did not miss those meetings at all!

"Maester Cord, I have been meaning to speak with you about your ability to adjust techniques." The sect master did not even give him a chance to talk but Lind was not about to be sidetracked.

"Why are you abusing your disciples?" His words made her freeze before her aura soared. She looked incensed but he just calmly sat there. She was stronger than him in theory but reality was far crueler.

With his harmonic cleansing, his body had full access to his cultivation. She did not.

Still they only stared at each other for a short time before she reigned in her aura.

"We are not abusing the disciples. It is simply a matter of missing–" Lind let his aura flare and the shock on her face was clear.

She could tell he was only a newly minted Crystal Tier in comparison to her but his aura was at full strength compared to her mid Crystal Tier foundation!

He could easily beat all of them without breaking a sweat! How was that possible?!

"You have overcome the tainted Qi? How?!" Lind ignored her question as he slammed a weaving around them like it was easy as breathing. It shimmered with emerald light but the more shocking thing to her was its power!

Just like the man in front of her, it was peak high grade 7!

It suffered from no issues at all that the taint usually brought to things made by anyone in the present day.

The sect master chose to try and signal the other elders to come help her but was shocked when not only did her communication jade stone fail but her ability to control Qi had been lost!

"I had no intention to reveal myself like this, but you are intentionally harming the future generations. I thought it might be a side effect not fully rectified but I have observed intentional harm being inflicted or fighting being allowed that could easily lead to crippling. No sect could thrive like this, yet you do. So why?" Lind had spoken to Felicia and she found nothing too odd but even she could not accept the intentionally broken meridians of the group he healed in the sermon.

The sect master became serious as she realized exactly how terrifyingly powerful the man before her was. He was not just a Triple Maester but a cultivator that had overcome the Corruption itself!

"We had no choice. It is not just my sect, but all of them have become very cruel. We can no longer be as picky or all the legacies of the world will be lost." Lind waited calmly in his seat. He was in no rush.

She sighed and began to pace as she spoke.

"When the Corruption initially swept the world, it was not fully understood what would happen later. The Heaven Realms suddenly began to die just to advance one tier to the next. Entire generations were lost in less than 100 thousand years." Lind was shocked.

He had learned some of that but the scale was insane! Entire generations were wiped out?!

"If it was only a single cultivation realm, then perhaps we could have overcome it, but all of us suffered. All below Immortal Realm suddenly took ten times as long to advance on average compared to before. Even if they were a certified genius, they would be lucky to make it to the Sky Realm before they died." He frowned at that.

He already had seen more than enough cultivators in the Sky Realm on a regular basis but that was after over a million years of dealing with the Corruption.

"So what changed?" He waited to hear what was going on.

The sect master seemed to smile forlornly back at him.

"We found the more life and death experiences a cultivator had improved their chances dramatically. The mortality rate is appalling but we have no choice, or we did not before you." She was not looking at him in greed but in desperation.

Lind began to understand how bad things were.

It was not that they were incompetent or abusing their disciples, it was that the only hope of keeping the quality up was to push them to the brink. In doing so, they ruined many but the ones that got through were all powerhouses!

"Surely you knew those lacking necessary physiques were a useless exercise? Also, why can no one confirm the race of a person anymore?" He could accept taking a risk and pushing people to rise up against the Corruption plaguing them, but it still did not explain the other issues.

The sect master looked frustrated but then shrugged.

"You would not understand but resources are not good. What used to take a single Qi stone now may take up to 10 or more to pull off. Skilled healers have also slowly vanished since just advancing is difficult." He narrowed his eyes but could not refute her words.

It was the issue of running an artifact and how much it would cost to do so. He had not considered that just running an artifact for a single cultivator would be too prohibitive to even try!

"So, to sum up, you are now telling me that the only way to cultivate is not only to basically throw everything up on a wall and see what sticks but also to not have enough resources for even the most basic tests?" He could almost feel the vein throbbing in his head.

They just gave up! They accepted their new obstruction and did not even try fix it!

It was asking a lot right away but over a million years had passed and no one thought to try?!

That made no sense at all from what he knew cultivators to be until his thoughts slowed down. He looked up at the sect master and really looked at her. His Eyes stripped away her weaker aura like it was paper and what he saw finally made sense.

"The Immortals die with their body now, don't they?" The sect master looked at Lind like he was stupid.

"We have known that since it started. Why are you acting like that is–" She froze suddenly and her eyes went wide. She suddenly produced a talisman and infused her Qi into it.

Lind felt no danger and saw a wave of Qi wash over both of them. The sect master lit up to his Eyes but his own body did not react at all.

"ASCENDER?!" She actually stumbled and fell down as she looked at him in shock.

"Sigh, I am afraid I can't have you revealing that piece of information, Eternal Blossom Sect Master. I will not harm you but I will need you to drink this." An elixir vial appeared but it seemed empty. To anyone else, it would have been but the sect master was an experienced Immortal.

She felt Laws in that vial and nothing else!

She stared in horror at him as she realized his skill was far superior to what they expected. A peak mid Law Grade elixir was staring right at her! She never heard of an expert this powerful!

Herbs were totally absorbed into the powerful Qi and Laws infused into them to achieve a purpose. Anyone that used that elixir would have massive benefits but equally could suffer horrifying results.

"I sweat to Heaven and Earth this elixir will only remove the knowledge of what I am from your memory. Our previous conversation will be perfectly intact and you will think I stormed out afterwards. I am going to fix things a bit before I leave. I am not ready to fight those coming for me yet." She felt the world move to his oath and downed the elixir herself.

As her memory became fuzzy, she realized she had forgotten to ask him how he got up to the 2nd layer but it all fell away. She pitied anyone that crossed that Maester. They would only suffer horrible defeat!
