Eternal Emerald Dragon

Chapter 980 - 979 - Eternal Blossom Sect

Chapter 980 - 979 - Eternal Blossom Sect

Kun City was a sprawling metropolis for the area. Millions of people called it home but just outside its border was a massive plain that had another city-like structure connected to its Law Bindings.

Sects had long laid foundations when the Corruption swept the lands but unlike the cities and other settlements, they had Law Bindings ready as defenses since ancient times.

It was how it was discovered Law Bindings could purify the taint in the world and spread the method to places that normally did not benefit from the protection of Law Bindings.

The high walls marked off a massive area but it shimmered with the power of the Law Binding around it. While plains were not normally known for a good place to settle a sect, the flow of Qi and elements actually came together where it was built.

The benefits allowed twice the results with half the effort for even the outer sect disciples!

The pale colors marked them as brighter and darker colors denoted higher disciples. Vibrant and lifelike colors denoted elders while the Sect Master wore a simple white set of robes.

Currently, the sect master was a woman with bright white hair but still vital looks. Her body was not attention grabbing but that was by choice. She had always enjoyed nature and thus chose to blend in when out in the world.

The result was a profound increase in her cultivation until she became a Crystal Tier Immortal over 2 million years ago.

She had been a powerhouse with how close to nature she had become. It was their technique that guided them but anyone that thought a cultivation technique focused on the balance of nature would be in for a rude awakening.

Nature was cruel.

The dead were the fuel for the living, thus it was perfectly natural for a cultivator on that path to wield the power to invigorate life or take it equally. Each element could be applied to that approach and thus the sect had risen in power thanks to that over the epochs.

The finely inscribed formations made the tan stone almost glow gold even to mortal eyes.

The further inward someone went, the more exquisite the buildings became. If Kun City had millions spread out over a 1000 square kilometers, the sect was not even half the size but held far more power per person!

The inner sect and core sect held only disciples but the very center was the main headquarters of the elders and sect master.

Each area had teaching halls and dormitories but the Treasure Hall, Mission Hall, and Law Enforcement Hall were all at the center.

At the very heart of it was a massive tree that soared into the sky. Rather than an artificial structure, the sect master looked out from the boughs of the tree.

She felt the flow of life as she basked in the sunlight but frowned at the dark flecks in the leaves in her vision.

Even with the Law Binding, the purity was still below 95%. It was not possible to completely remove the taint yet hope had bloomed.

A little over a month ago, a massive pillar of emerald light had been visible even to her naked eye from Kun City. The wave of Qi that came from it was so refreshing that she thought it was a miracle but the day that followed was the true miracle.

In the million years since the Corruption swept the land, the Heart Tree had been only able to grow yellowed or black flecked leaves.

In that single day, vibrant green leaves had budded and grown in front of her! Further, they were still there for a week until slowly yellowing over time.

It took very little time to determine the cause. A Fiend lair had been purged by a Triple Maester no one had heard of before! Further, he could tear through space like Immortals of old!

She had always taken it for granted but that skill had been lost the very day the Corruption struck. Even though it had not spread as much as it was in the present, all recalled that horrific day when whole continents fell from the sky!

"Sect Master, a response has arrived." She turned to see her current assistant. He was a core disciple. He had shaved his head as on top of the natural technique, he also practiced ascetic mantras and Arts.

He was a monk essentially but it did not conflict with the nature technique.

"To which missive? There have been several critical ones this past month." Chaos had spread across the local area but she had received word of other powers moving that usually did not stray.

The most troubling was the Eternal Flame Sect.

A once honorable sect was now one of the most vile but they had sent out a force to Kun City. It would take a year to arrive in the current circumstances but they were coming.

It was sadly not a unique tale but the Eternal Flame Sect was the worst. Even more so for the fact the Prime Disciple was the one that turned it into the monstrosity it was!

"The Honorable Maester Cord has accepted your invitation. He did, however, have a strange message." She turned to him and saw his confusion in his pale gray eyes. She nodded for him to continue. "I am happy to teach but only on honorable terms."

She smirked as she knew the Triple Maester had likely been inundated with 'invitations' that were thinly veiled attempts to offer up daughters or even sisters to an Immortal that had full access to their powers.

She wanted to meet him as well but she truly did want him to come teach. A grade 7 weaver was already rare but a Law Maester Weaver was practically a legend even before the Corruption.

It was not easy to advance such a profession but he also had elixirs and Forging!

Such an expert would be a dream for any power but she was not greedy.

"Please extend an open invitation. Relay to the Law Enforcement Hall to expect him and his entourage." She had heard he had a moderate group with him but they sounded like students.

Given he was a Crystal Tier, he could be 7 to 8 million years old as a recluse but most importantly, his ability to tear through space was something she wanted to observe.

If he had solved that problem, traveling across the land would become much easier once more!

He bowed low and left quickly. He scampered down the tree as if he was able to walk along the bark with ease! She smiled to see he had improved.

"You still have objections to my request?" She spoke to open air before a breeze with leaves whisked past her and revealed an old man who looked conflicted.

"You know how humans are. They are closed minded and often greedy. No one could become such an incredible expert without materials to do it. How many aether beasts did he kill to do it?" She frowned at his words.

"He is a dragon–" She felt his aura flare as golden scales shone on his flesh. His eyes were vertical slits of molten gold as well! The dark tan robes were also shimmering to her eyes.

"No dragon has emerald scales! I do not care! There is a greater issue for my race as the True Lord has somehow ascended! We need to find him and find out how he did that!" The other missives had confirmed the movement of ancestors of many dragon clans.

Unlike many human powers, the Eternal Blossom Sect had some dragons as part of their elders and disciples. Having a nature oriented sect allowed them to welcome aether beasts both in their natural forms and human forms.

"That is far to the west though." No one knew for sure what happened but the movement of the dragons drew all the eyes that observed them.

He bowed but then sighed.

"It is possible his elements changed his scales and he is a flood dragon or something else but he will know the instant he enters the sect that we are here. I will isolate her highness until I can meet him." She frowned at his words but nodded.

The current disciple was a little special but also a bit troublesome.

"I would like her to attend his lectures if he gives them. Even you cannot deny it would be immensely helpful." The old man nodded.

He then vanished once more as she turned back to look out at her sect.

She felt a pain lance through her chest but she rode it out as it slowly faded. She knew her time was coming.

It was the dark secret the Immortals hid from the world. They were dying and their souls were trapped!

She had seen an Immortal wither and die without any chance for the soul to escape. The taint was killing them and they could only slow it down with all their methods. If Maester Cord had a solution, he could save the world!

It was too late for her but perhaps he could save the next generation. She closed her eyes and prayed to the spirits for such a miracle before heading out on the branches to her 'office' and get some work done before the Maester arrived.
