Chapter 922 - 921 - Choosing an Heir
Chapter 922 - 921 - Choosing an Heir
Notices had begun to go up not long after the first clan branch had been settled by Miles Frey. A good fifth of the family went to support him as well as some branches of the businesses based there.
Starfire House also put an auction house there for the future as everyone knew it was only a matter of time when more stable traffic came their way.
The notice boards usually gave updates on improvements to the city or opportunities for merchants coming to or heading to other important cities across the realm.
The current one, however, had a mixed reaction. The vast majority of the public were confused but happy as it meant Lord Frey was finally planning the future of the Clan but his family became depressed and a bit stressed out.
{Mandatory Selection of Frey Clan Heir will be carried out for the next century.}
{All relatives currently in the Sky Realm and below will be allowed to enter but can postpone until the peak of the Sky Realm. All Heaven Realms and above will participate.}
{Examinations will be held at the discretion of True Lord Lind Frey. There will be no exceptions. The rules of the examinations will be explained one month before they occur. All members will be recalled at that time.}
{War time exemptions will not be allowed. If war is currently ongoing, the relevant members will be extracted.}
{The first examination is in 1 month in the main Clan Hall.}
{Tests for cultivation, comprehension, and general knowledge are to be expected.}
It seemed simple but his family knew Lind was not so kind as to spell it all out. In fact, many of them were suspicious of the war time mentions. The newly issued general declaration of Shard Tiers not getting involved seemed to contradict that posting.
It was a warning to his children to be mindful in part but they also suspected other motives. He was the man that had made impossible things happen over and over again.
The final line was deeply suspicious to them too. There was no way it would be as simple as it seemed!
Their founder was many things but simple testing had never even been in his vocabulary!
Word was sent out to the members that were not present in the clan but the other powers got word and were interested.
Cyntilla was covered in sweat as 2 swords danced around her in a blur. The speed was so fast that the image of a wolf slowly took form to the naked eye!
Shoti was her opponent and her whips were not only coming from her weapon but also from around her!
It made Shoti very tricky to fight but Cyntilla was one of the few that could force her into a corner.
A few people were also in the training area but were mesmerized by the 2 matriarchs unleashing their full power at each other! The training area defenses were rare in that even Shard Tiers could fight at full strength without harming others.
Not even places like the Temple of Fire had such a place!
Lind had made such a thing possible.
The other powers were paying handsomely for their own facilities as well!
The shock waves created when their attacks struck each other could level entire ranges of mountains!
The weavings and Forged materials flared with power to nullify it but very few understood how they worked.
Even the new generation of mid grade 7 experts were still catching up to some of the extreme abilities Lind demonstrated.
His new sky ships, especially, were of deep interest to many powers but Lind was still the only one that could really make them. The key piece of harmonic crystal could only be done by a 6 elemental but only one that was a Forger.
The 2 clashed but the whips sent Cyntilla flying back while the closing fangs of the wolf forced Shoti to do the splits to avoid the attack.
Blood trickled from Cyntilla's lips but she was smiling while a cut crossed the side of Shoti without drawing any blood.
"You barely dodged that one." Cyntilla was completely exhausted but Shoti was no better. The various whips vanished as did the illusory wolf.
"Your fangs have gotten trickier, sister. Not as tricky as that husband of ours." The smirk on the sweat covered face of Shoti was mirrored on Cyntilla.
"He is ready to move on or at least focus on it. We have all felt it. His power has surpassed all of us but Lady Delenn. Yet he never uses it in public. So what is he planning it for?" Both women nodded at her words.
It took a lot to build up the city at first but after the exploration mission, Lind had become relatively silent. A few battles, stopped the complete breakdown between the former Alliance forces, and things like that were all.
His casual display of his grasp of Spatial Laws only confirmed how terrifying he had become.
Now he was forcing the issue of choosing an heir. His wives knew their children were not equal but they knew he was looking for something else. He was looking for someone to be really flexible in their thinking.
The Frey Clan was a horrifying level of power to just hand over. The majority of it would remain in the hands of his wives for a time but eventually the next generation would have to stand on their own.
For that purpose he was not looking for just strength, but a mind that was open to possibilities. Unfortunately, he had raised quite a few of those!
Miles alone was already demonstrating a good head on his shoulders but he was already a Shard Tier as well!
The 2 women bowed to each other before dismissing the defenses of the training area. A round of applause went up that made them smirk. More than half the people there were their grandchildren and even a few great grandchildren.
The lowest cultivation realm was a Diamond Tier but the quality of skills were much higher than many other powers.
Lind's Moebius Sect foundation had benefited them as the millennia passed.
The 6 elementals were able to help all combinations of elements improve in strength, synergy, and adaptation to the newly created Arts thanks to the same revelations.
Even their own Arts had made extreme improvements as Lind grasped the application of Laws to the elemental balance he had comprehended.
"I see our children take after their father in more ways than one." Shoti suddenly spoke up as they headed for the baths.
Cyntilla smiled as she nodded.
"Despite having an example of our relationship, a lot of them take after his old monogamous attitude. So adorable." Shoti waved at a few of their grandchildren who blushed as they heard the 2 speak.
"I think he still has that attitude but treats each of us as our own relationship rather than as a group beholden to him. I think that is what they are emulating." Each wife was treated extremely well but Lind made a point of always dating them.
He took them out on different nights or days. He made sure to mark important anniversaries each of them have. He had missed a lot due to the times they were apart but they were all touched by his gestures.
"So, do you think any of them have figured out the problem yet?" Shoti smirked as they entered the bath. Cyntilla shook her head but smiled as well.
"They are all too worried about what the next century will bring but none of them realize there are far too many of them to all be in the main Clan Hall." It was something they knew Lind was counting on.
The current rules did not seem so bad but the ultimate goal hung over them and distracted them from that little inconsistency.
As they bathed, other women joined them from the training hall but all felt subdued in the presence of their matriarchs.
[What do you think he is up to? It is not just about an heir.] Cyntilla sent the message directly but no outward sign showed she was speaking. The Qi in the room for the various functions hid the ripple such a telepathic message normally gave out.
Shoti pondered but then shook her head.
[For all that he lives in the present with us, his eyes are now on a target far above us all. He will not stop until that monster is dead. The loving scholar we fell for is still there but he is clearly getting ready to move on.] Despite being known as a light hearted warrior, Shoti had a mind able to make complex intuitive leaps the others could not.
The 2 left the bath and dried off before donning simple white robes to head back to their quarters. They were crossing the welcoming square when both stopped. Their eyes narrowed at the relief of Lanbao at the top of the room.
Neither could put a finger on why, but something had changed about the relief. It almost seemed alive.
"What is that?" Cyntilla could tell it was powerful but she could not place what she was feeling.
Shoti tried to step forward only to be shocked that she could not! Both then realized that aside from themselves, everyone walked by as if nothing was wrong!
"Perception ward. A powerful one." Shoti ran her fingers and could not tell what was hidden from her senses. They moved on and both wondered what their husband was up to. They also wondered what the next century would bring to them all.
