Chapter 797 - 796 - Weak
Chapter 797 - 796 - Weak
Lind felt a Fiend presence closing in!
He suddenly removed his amicable face and lifted the old woman in the air with one of his arms.
"Why is a Fiend coming here?!" He had expected the so called caretakers to be coming, not a Fiend!
The blood drained from Vai at his words.
"It is the Culling. They are early!" His eyes narrowed at her words but then a new presence entered his range. An Immortal!
Lind carefully let her down as he looked to the north.
"An Immortal is now coming as well." Vai barely sat down when she almost fell! Both of those forces coming together was a disaster!
"You have brought doom upon us." Lind wanted to argue but the odds of events happening at his location with such contrasting forces was highly unlikely unless he was there.
"Very well, I will take responsibility then." He left the hut before she could say anything else and shot to the sky. Many of the villages dropped to their knees as only Immortals could fly in the sky.
Hort felt his body shiver in terror at how foolish they had been!
Lind ignored it all and quickly flew to a point the Fiend and Immortal would cross. He then hid himself with weavings and suppressed his aura. He carefully prepared a few artifacts and had them at hand to stop both of them.
The reason for hiding was to see his foes and strike first if needed but his frown deepened as he realized the Fiend was only a Heaven Realm. It felt wrong to how it should too.
It was as if their cultivation jumped and dropped but hovered on average around the Heaven Realm. The incoming Immortal was also just as unstable.
What was going on?
Soon, a figure emerged into a clearing with black robes but Lind narrowed his eyes. It was a withered ash grey skin figure. Their hair was white but he was unsure if it was age or supposed to be that way with how horrible the rest of the Fiend looked like.
Now that he could get a good look at it, the man's foundation was riddled with holes!
It was stunning the Fiend was even alive let alone a cultivator. Yet, its power was just as strong as any Fiend in the same realm could be, but he seemed to be waiting for something.
Shortly afterwards, a middle aged man appeared in the sky. His robes were pristinely white. His hair was healthy and slicked back but his shard was barely intact! Lind narrowed his eyes once more.
Where had that Immortal found Laws to study? The current traces in the air were hardly enough for any Sun Tier to grasp much.
There had to be an even better area he had yet to reach but why? Why were Laws increasing when they should be wiped out completely already?
"You were called as well?" Lind was stunned at the almost professional attitude the Immortal man had for the Fiend! They were not enemies. The Fiend even laughed amicably!
"Someone caused a ruckus in Betrell village. Our spies told us something impossible so we came to confirm. The snakes may have broken the treaty." Lind felt a ripple in his heart. Either there was a powerful snake clan like the Illusion Pythons or the Fiend was denigrating dragons!
Could the dragons have survived?!
"There was no breach of the Sacred Paths so it might have been one in hibernation that recently emerged. We also heard something similar and I was sent to find them as well." The Fiend nodded but then sneered.
"Even if it is a late bloomer, they could be what we need to get better resources at last." The Immortal nodded.
"Kintz, I like the way you think. Make sure not to take too many women from the village as they will need to repopulate for us too." The Fiend waved his hand as if that was expected. Lind felt his blood boil
He tossed 2 artifacts out. They were triangular in shape but unfolded like paper despite being made of metal.
They became octagons that hovered over each being and snapped a suppression field over them as they lit up in all 6 natural elements. The Fiend also got a trace of his harmonic Qi to be safe.
"What is this, Darken?! Are you betray–" The Fiend became indignant when Lind appeared with his full power. Both of them were slammed into the ground by his aura alone!
"I have heard enough. I have questions and you 2 will answer them, now." His anger was clear to them both but they did not understand why one Immortal was so powerful!
"P-perfect foundation?!" The Immortal man mumbled and the Fiend felt all the blood drain from his face. He also felt a level of danger he had never encountered with any cultivator.
"Silence!" Darken was slammed into a tree and the artifact kept up the whole time as if it was a part of him! The inability to reach Qi was understandable with the Immortal but Kintz was showing panic at his own failure!
How was that possible?!
"How are you 2 allies? Fiends see all cultivators as resources and food. Explain, now." The words of Lind made both look confused. How did such a powerful Immortal not know?
"F-fellow–" Darken was again tossed like a ragdoll across the clearing. Kintz understood Lind was not putting up with any courtesy from them.
"Survival! We are on the edge of death out here but only recently did space open up to raise some resources! The lack of Laws limits us but we could not kill each other. It also would be a mutual death if we tried." Kintz revealed it all. It was no secret afterall. Only the foolish villagers did not know they were little better than cattle.
Lind closed his eyes as pieces came together quickly.
"I see. The Fiends cull on occasion to keep up their cultivation while the Immortals stop the beasts from getting out of hand. Both sides raise their respective resources and benefits. Yet, that does not answer why? Why would Fiends ever agree to help cultivators?" He knew them.
They were far reaching planners. They had infinite patience and even the instigators of the plans may die so long as they could succeed. It was part of what made them terrifying was that their greed for life was below the desire to win.
He would believe Fiends allying with cultivators when the Dao became as easy as a waterfall to grasp. It was never going to happen.
"We are barely holding on! Both of us were weakened by the Fall of Civilization but only death waited for us if we did not reach an arrangement. The ants do not matter to us but it is easier to protect them with us while the Fiends cull!" Darken finally spoke up as blood trailed down his face.
His normal protections were not working which made him understand his soul was likely in danger as well! Lind sneered before emerald beams burned Kintz.
The Fiend howled in pain like he had never felt before!
"Try again. Do not lie to me." Lind disbelieved it all. It was impossible.
Kintz was heaving on the knee high green grass. The pleasant clearing was full of the screams and blood of the 2 men as Lind floated over them.
"We are preparing to take their citadel. We already have several thralls inside." Kintz felt the truth of the threat. He was likely already dead but he enjoyed seeing the shock on Darken's face.
"How dare you?! We have worked together for–" Kintz's aura flared as he began to laugh. The withered face was ugly already but now it was just macabre.
"Like you have all not been building that flying artifact for centuries?! Did you think we would not find out?!" Lind slowly nodded. Cultivators and Fiends might be able to coexist in the current circumstances but he would not for an instant believe they were true allies.
"Fine, that is what I wanted to confirm. Now, we will have a more in depth conversation." Lind actually became colder to them both. The 2 beings realized they were the ants to this man. Even though one of them was supposed to be on par with him, they were nothing!
"We already–" Lind's body began to transform and both went wide eyed as they truly grasped what they were facing. It was a dragon and Darken was left slack jawed!
Lind's massive form coiled and the power in his jaws and claws left no doubt he could kill them without the slightest remorse.
"You, speak!" Kintz whimpered as the emerald Qi around the dragon body made him wallow in pain. Why did that Qi hurt?
"Our Empire existed before the Fall but we are just a branch! The Starbreaker Empire! We lost our core when everything in the Silverthorn Valley was wiped out. It was just all destroyed. We have slowly recovered but without Laws, our numbers have dwindled in the Heaven and Immortal Realms." Lind nodded as that made sense.
It seemed the Immortal Darken nodded to it as well so he could safely accept it.
"And you?" Darken shivered but then looked defiant.
"You have broken the treaty! The Dragons swore to stay out of our affairs as long as we kept out of the Sacred Paths! You will begin–" Darken suddenly felt like his organs were boiling and his skin was being flayed!
"I am not being clear. Your lives are in my hands. Displease me, and I will rip the knowledge from your corpse. Do not think I cannot!" His claws lit up as sigils blazed quickling into weavings!
Both captured men now felt true fear. Weavers were legendary but factual beings. If the dragon in front of them could weave, their souls were in literal danger. Weavers could use souls easily after all.
"Please spare me! I did not mean to anger you great dragon!" Lind sneered but it only made him look like he was going to eat the man. "I am but a member of survivors that banded together after the world was nearly destroyed. An ancient citadel has been made into our base but we are more like a sect than a kingdom."
Lind nodded and continued questioning them for sometime as a better picture of the world came to him. The day nearly passed when he finally retrieved the 2 artifacts.
Both men were dead. The Fiend had been dead the moment harmonic Qi touched him but Lind had held it back until he had his answers, but the Immortal Darken died unexpectedly. The pressure of his artifacts fractured and shattered the shard.
Neither could withstand even a fraction of his power.
The cultivators of the Celestial Fields were far too weak.
